  • This paper deals with the dynamic stability and vibration of a non-uniform cantilevered pipe conveying fluid. The present model consists of two segments with different cross-sections. Governing equations of motion are derived by extended Hamilton's principle, and the numerical scheme using finite element method is applied to obtain the discretized equations. The critical flow velocities and stability maps of the pipe are obtained by changing step ratios, mass ratios and internal damping parameters of the pipe. Finally, the vibrational modes associated with flutter are shown graphically.

  • Many nonlinear controllers for the power system are based on nonlinear models involving the power angle as an element of the state, and therefore the reference value for the power angle is needed. As this reference value is not generally available, it is difficult to apply such nonlinear control methods in practice. To deal with this problem, we present an input-output feedback linearizing control scheme by selecting the output as a combination of the squared voltage and the relative frequency. It is shown that the internal dynamics are locally stable with controllable damping, and that the frequency remains bounded for all time. Simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Combination resonances of imperfect SSFG cylindrical shells rested on viscoelastic foundations

  • The present paper investigates the combination resonance behavior of imperfect spiral stiffened functionally graded (SSFG) cylindrical shells with internal and external functionally graded stiffeners under two-term large amplitude excitations. The structure is embedded within a generalized nonlinear viscoelastic foundation, which is composed of a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation augmented by a Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model with a nonlinear cubic stiffness, to account for the vibration hardening/softening phenomena and damping considerations. With regard to classical plate theory of shells, von-Kármán equation and Hook law, the relations of stress-strain are derived for shell and stiffeners. The spiral stiffeners of the cylindrical shell are modeled according to the smeared stiffener technique. According to the Galerkin method, the discretized motion equation is obtained. The combination resonance is obtained by using the multiple scales method. Finally, the influences of the stiffeners angles, foundation type, the nonlinear elastic foundation coefficients, material distribution, and excitation amplitude on the system resonances are investigated comprehensively.

유연복합재 구동축의 동특성에 관한 실험 분석 (Experimental Investigation Into the Dynamic Characteristics of Flexible Matrix Composite Driveshafts)

  • This study provides a comprehensive experimental study on the dynamic characteristics of a flexible matrix composite(FMC) driveshaft. A primary objective is to verify the analytic results of the FMC drivetrain based on the equivalent complex modulus approach and the classical lamination theory. A test rig has been constructed, which consists of a FMC shaft, a foundation beam, bearings, external dampers and a driving motor. The frequency response functions and transient responses are obtained from the external excitation and the spin-up testings. It turns out that the analytic results are in good agreement with the experimental ones.

  • The paper describes the relationship between the eigenvalue branches and the corresponding flutter modes of cantilevered pipes with a tip mass conveying fluid. Governing equations of motion are derived by extended Hamilton's principle, and the numerical scheme using finite element method is applied to obtain the discretized equations. The flutter configurations of the pipes at the critical flow velocities are drawn graphically at every twelfth period to define the order of quasi-mode of flutter configuration. The critical mass ratios, at which the transference of the eigenvalue branches related to flutter takes place. are definitely determined. Also, in the case of haying internal damping, the critical tip mass ratios, at which the consistency between eigenvalue braches and quasi-modes occurs. are thoroughly obtained.

라이너가 있는 덕트의 소음방사 특성에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study of Radiation Effect from Ducted Fans with Liners)

  • Over the last few decades, noise has played a major role in the development of aircraft engines. The dominant noise is generated by the wake interactions of fan and downstream stator. Engine inlet and exhaust ducts are being fitted with liner materials that aid in damping fan related noise. In this paper, the radiation of duct internal noise from duct open ends with liners is studies via numerical methods. The linearized Euler's equations in generalized curvilinear coordinates are solved by the DRP scheme. The far field sound pressure levels are computed by the Kirchhoff integration method. Through comparison of sound directivity from bell-mouth duct with and without liners, it is shown that radiation from engine inlet is affected by liner effects or a soft wall boundary condition.

  • This study intends to provide an optimum design of flexible matrix composite driveshafts using a genetic algorithm. An objective function is defined as a combination of shaft flexibility, whirling stability and torsional buckling and the design variables are selected as ply angles and the shaft thickness. Results show that the genetic algorithm can successfully find an optimum solution at which the overall performance of the FMC shafts is significantly enhanced

  • The paper presents the relationship between the eigenvalue branches and the corresponding flutter modes of cantilevered pipes conveying fluid. The pipes are located on elastic foundations which can be regarded as a soil model. In this paper, elastic foundations are assumed as linear distributed translational springs. Governing equations of motion are derived by extended Hamilton's principle, and the numerical scheme using finite element method is applied to obtain the discretized equations. The critical How velocity and stability maps of the pipe are investigated according to the variation of elastic foundation parameters, mass ratios of the pipe and internal damping Parameter. Also, the vibrational modes associated with flutter are shown.

  • The structural vibration of a diesel generator set was investigated through analyses and tests. FE modeling and normal mode analysis were performed and compared with measured results for both structure components and generator set assembly. The results of component analyses were fairly well coincident with measured results but those of assembled generator set showed more or less discrepancies. Discussions were given about the uncertainties for vibration characteristics of component structures and assembled running structures especially concerning their nonlinearities and damping effects. Detailed excitation analysis fellowed by forced response analysis was done from the engine and pressure data to compare with the actual measured vibration. As results the vibration prediction for frame structures of reciprocating internal combustion engine was confirmed reliable to some extent.

  • In this paper, a magnetic suspension system with inductive sensors fur a high vacuum turbomolecular pump(TMP) is discussed. The performance of designed inductive position sensor is evaluated by static and dynamic test, and the test results show sensitivity of about 6,000 V/m and dynamic bandwidth of 750 ㎐. The protype of magnetic suspension system is designed and constructed with 5-axis magnetic bearing, inductive sensor and BLDC internal motor. With DSP based digital PID control system, the prototype is examined its high damping ratio and stable operation up to 20,000 rpm of rotation.
