  • Lamin A and its alternative splicing product Lamin C are the key intermediate filaments (IFs) of the inner nuclear membrane intermediate filament. Lamin A/C forms the inner nuclear mesh with Lamin B and works as a frame with a nuclear shape. In addition to supporting the function of nucleus, nuclear lamins perform important roles such as holding the nuclear pore complex and chromatin. However, mutations on the Lamin A or Lamin B related proteins induce various types of human genetic disorders and diseases including premature aging syndromes, muscular dystrophy, lipodystrophy and neuropathy. In this review, we briefly overview the relevance of genetic mutations of Lamin A, human disorders and laminopathies. We also discuss a mouse model for genetic diseases. Finally, we describe the current treatment for laminopathies.

  • The diffusion mechanism of Si in GaAs was investigated using different diffusion sources based on the Si-Ga-As ternary phase equilibria. The Si profiles are measured with secondary ion mass spectrometry and differ significantly for sources taken from the different phase fields in the ternary phase diagram. Neutral As vacancy diffusion is proposed for acceptor Si diffusion anneals using a Ga - Si - GaAs source. Donor Si diffusion using As - rich sources and a Si -GaAs tie line source shows concentration dependent diffusion behavior. Concentration dependent diffusion coefficients of donor Si for As - rich source diffusion were found to be related to net ionized donor concentration and showed three regimes of different behavior: saturation regime, intermediate regime, and intrinsic regime. Ga vacancies are proposed to be responsible for donor Si diffusionin GaAs: $Si_Ga^+V_Ga^-$ (donor Si -acceptor Gavacancy) complex for the extrinsic regime and neutral $V_G$a, for the intrinsic regime. The Si - GaAs tie line source resulted in two branch profiles, intermediate between the As - rich and the Ga - rich source diffusion cases.

  • A number of techniques have been proposed for 3D display using view-difference of two eyes. These methods do not express enough reality like real world. The display images have to change according to the position of a viewer to improve reality. In this paper, we present an approach for generating intermediate image between two different view images by applying new image interpolation algorithm The interpolation algorithm is designed to cope with complex shapes. The proposed image interpolation algorithm generates rotated image about vertical axes by any angle from base images. Each base image that was obtained from CCD camera has an view-angle difference of $3^{\circ}C$, $5.5^{\circ}C$, $^{\circ}C$, $22^{\circ}C$, and $45^{\circ}C$. The proposed into mediate image generation method uses the geometric analysis of image and depth information through the block-based matching method.

  • A complex bandpass sampling technique can provide a more flexible architecture for designing a software- defined radio(SDR) system, because it has several advantageous features of larger sampling range and lower minimum sampling frequency than a real bandpass sampling method. In spite of the potential advantages of the complex bandpass sampling, solid investigation for the direct downconversion of multiple signals by the complex sampling theory has not been reported yet. Thus, we propose in this paper a novel scheme for the downconversion of multiple signals using the complex bandpass sampling, and develop the formulae related to the complex bandpass sampling for practical usage, such as the valid sampling range, the intermediate frequency (If), and the minimum sampling frequency of the downconversion of multiple RE signals. Such derived formulae are verified from simulations.

  • Base hydrolysis of 7-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (HC) and 7-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one-4-acetic acid (HCA) in aqueous-methanol and aqueous-acetone mixtures were studied kinetically at temperature range from 283 to 313 K. The activation parameters of the reactions were evaluated and discussed. Moreover, the change in the activation energy barrier of the investigated compounds from water to water-methanol and water-acetone mixtures was estimated from the kinetic data. It is observed that the change in activation barriers is more or less the same for the hydrolysis of HC and HCA. Base hydrolysis of HC and HCA follows a rate law with $k_{obs}=k_2[OH^-]$. The decrease in the rate constants of HC and HCA as the proportion of methanol or acetone increases is due to the destabilization of $OH^-$ ion. The high negative values of entropy of activation support the proposal mechanism, i.e. the investigated reaction takes place via the formation of an intermediate complex. Moreover, these values refer to the rigidity and stability of the intermediate complex. Thus, the ring opening of the intermediate complex would be the rate controlling step.

  • Three compounds of Cu(II)-loaded N,N,N'-trimethylethylenediaminated Merrifield-type polymers were synthesized with yields higher than 80%, and the hydrolysis reaction rates of O-isopropylmethyl-phosphonofluoridate(GB) and O-pinacolylmethylphosphonofluoridate (GD) catalyzed by them have been surveyed. GB and GD hydrolysis by Cu(II)-loaded polymers occurs via intermediate complex mechanism where rapid equilibrium to form intermediate complex between substrate and Cu(II)-loaded polymers($K_f$) is followed by rate determining hydrolysis step($k_1$). The measured activation parameters for $k_1$ are ${\Delta}H^{\ddag}$ : $17.75{\pm}0.98kJ/mol$ ${\Delta}S^{\ddag}$ / : $-218.42{\pm}3.35J/mol$ K, $E^{\circ}_a$ : $20.22{\pm}0.98kJ/mo1$ for GB and ${\Delta}H^{\ddag}$ / : $11.16{\pm}1.15kJ/mol,$${\Delta}S^{\ddag}$ /: $-258.57{\pm}3.93J/mol$ K, $E^{\circ}_a$ : $13.64{\pm}1.15 kJ/mol$ for GD. Standard enthalpy/entropy changes corresponding to the intermediate complex formation constant $K_f$ are ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ : $37.05{\pm}2.19 kJ/mo1,$$ {\Delta}S^{\circ}$ : $163.12{\pm}7.49 J/mol$ K and ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ : 418.59{\pm}2.04 kJ/mol,$ ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ : 4111.92{\pm}6.98 J/mol$ K for GB and GD, respectively, The electron push-pull mechanism by Cu(II)-loaded polymers lowers the P-F bond breaking energy(~400 kJ/mol) to less than 1/20 compared to the case in which no Cu(II)-loaded resin presents. Analysis of $K_f$ and 4k_1$ over pH=6.5~8.0 range suggest that the GB and GD hydrolysis occurs intramolecularily with $pK_a$ =7.29 for ligated $H_2O$ and $t_{1/2}$=36.9 sec, $pK_a$ = 7.06 and $t_{1/2}$=177.7 sec for GB and GD, respectively.

  • Data analysis applications typically aggregate data across many dimensions looking for unusual patterns in data. Even though such applications are usually possible with standard structured query language (SQL) queries, the queries may become very complex. A complex query may result in many scans of the base table, leading to poor performance. Because online analytical processing (OLAP) queries are usually complex, it is desired to define a new operator for aggregation, called the data cube or simply cube. Data cube supports OLAP tasks like aggregation and sub-totals. Many aggregate functions can be used to construct a data cube. Those functions can be classified into three categories, the distributive, the algebraic, and the holistic. It has been thought that the distributive functions such as SUM, COUNT, MAX, and MIN can be used to construct a data cube, and also the algebraic function such as AVG can be used if the function is replaced to an intermediate function. It is believed that even though AVG is not distributive, but the intermediate function (SUM, COUNT) is distributive, and AVG can certainly be computed from (SUM, COUNT). In this paper, however, it is found that the intermediate function (SUM COUNT) cannot be applied to OLAP cubes, and consequently the function leads to erroneous conclusions and decisions. The objective of this study is to identify some problems in applying aggregate function AVG to OLAP cubes, and to design a process for solving these problems.

  • With the aim of solving the problems of long processing times, high memory consumption and low event throughput in the current processing approaches in out-of-order RFID event streams, an efficient complex event processing method based on INFA-HTS (Improved Nondeterministic Finite Automaton-Hash Table Structure) is presented in this paper. The contribution of this paper lies in the fact that we use INFA and HTS to successfully realize the detection of complex events for out-of-order RFID event streams. Specifically, in our scheme, to detect the disorder of out-of-order event streams, we expand the traditional NFA model into a new INFA model to capture the related RFID primitive events from the out-of-order event stream. To high-efficiently manage the large intermediate capturing results, we use the HTS to store and process them. As a result, these problems in the existing methods can be effectively solved by our scheme. The simulation results of our experiments show that our proposed method in this paper outperforms some of the current general processing approaches used to process out-of-order RFID event streams.

  • This study explored the sandplay therapy case of a woman with a negative mother complex who wants to be free from family life. The goal of the therapy was to make her free from family life by expressing repressed emotions for getting out of a negative mother complex under a free and protected space in sandplay therapy. Twenty-three therapy sessions were held. The client exhibited a singing woman in a gorgeous dress and things she wanted to do in the initial phase of therapy (1-4, forgotten myself). In the intermediate phase of therapy (5-15, differentiation and integration), she displayed the scenes of differentiation and integration by emotionally getting rid of a begging boy and making mandalas. In the final phase of therapy (16-23, recovered myself), she showed scenes of rebirth, upgrading and singing songs again in front of family members and many people. Through sandplay therapy in the free and protected space, this study showed the effectiveness of sandplay therapy since the client achieved individuation by showing rebirth, having a new personality.

  • Selection of Al tolerant woody plants, and possibility of reforestation with the Al tolerant plants in soil conditions with different Al content, topography and slope exposures were studied on the slopes around Yeocheon Industrial Complex. Root growth in length of plants grown in 1/2 Steinberg solution decreased with increased Al concentrations of the solution. Relative root length showed that Paulownia coreana, Celtis sinensis and Firmiana simplex were sensitive to $500\muM$ Al, Pinus koraiensis, Alnus japonica and Ligustrum japonicum were intermediate, and Pinus rigida, P. densiflora and P. thunbergii were tolerant to $1, 000\muM$ Al. Coniferous plants appeared to be more tolerant to Al than deciduous ones. Soil pH was 4.2 and Al content was 509 ppm in average around the Yeocheon industrial complex. Al content and soil acidity were more deteriorated on the foothill and slope facing to the pollution source from the industrial complex than on the ridge and opposite slope.
