  • The effects of Mo additions on the microstructure and the room temperature deformation behavior of polysynthetically twinned (PST) crystals of TiAl were studied in order to get a basic conception for alloying additions on the two-phase TiAl compounds with the lamellar structure. It was found that the Mo additions in TiAl PST crystals increase both the yield stress and tensile elongation to fracture but the increase in yield stress deppend on the angle $\Phi$at which the lamellar boundaries lie from the loading axis. The large difference in yield stress between specimens deformed parallel($\Phi = 0^\circ$)or perpendicular($\Phi = 90^\circ$) to the loading axis and those deformed in intermediate orientations could be plained by the difference in Mo content between the TiAl and the $$Ti_{3}Al$ phases. It was also found that the Mo-doped specimens with intermediate orientation fail by cracking zigzag across to the lamellar boundaris, which is the same fracture mode as that of binary specimens with intermediate orientations tested in vacuum This suggests that Mo atoms are thought to play a role to reduce the environmental embrittlement of binary PST crystals, resulting in increasing the tensile ductility.

  • This paper described an off-axis five-mirror-anastigmatic telescope. It is composed of three aspheric surfaces and one spherical surface while the third mirror and fifth mirror have the same parameters at the same place. This configuration is useful for having wide field of view. The strip full field of view for the near infrared telescope is $20^{\circ}{\times}0.2^{\circ}$. The entrance pupil is located in front of the first mirror. There is an intermediate image between the second mirror and the third mirror. The entrance pupil diameter is 100 mm and the effective focal length is 250 mm. The spectral range is $0.85-1.75{\mu}m$. The pixel pitch is $15{\mu}m$. The image quality is near the diffraction limit. Some methods were used to restrain the stray light such as a field stop near the intermediate image, the baffle, the narrow-band pass filter and a stop in front of the focal plane.

  • The main-belt asteroid (5247) Krylov is known as a Non-Principal Axis (NPA) rotator. However, the shape model and spin state of this asteroid were not revealed. The physical model of an asteroid including spin state and shape is regarded to be important to understand its physical properties and dynamical evolution. Thus, in order to reconstruct the physical model of Kryolv, we applied the light curve inversion method using not only the optical light curves observed with ground-based telescopes in three apparitions during 2006, 2016, and 2017, but also the infrared light curves obtained with the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) in 2010. We found that it is rotating in Short Axis Mode (SAM) with the rotation and precession periods of 368.71 hr and 67.277 hr, respectively. The orientation of the angular momentum vector is (298°, -58°) in the ecliptic coordinate system. The ratio of moments of inertia of the longest axis to the shortest axis is Ia/Ic = 0.36; the ratio of moments of inertia of the intermediate axis to the shortest axis is Ib/Ic = 0.96. Finally, the excitation level of this asteroid is found to be rather low with a ratio of the rotational kinetic energy to the basic spin state energy as E/E0 ≃ 1.024. We will briefly discuss the possible evolutionary process of Krylov in this presentation.

  • Korean-Japanese Planet Search Program has been carried out since 2005 to search for planets around intermediate-mass giant stars (1.5-5.0 solar masses) by an international collaboration between Korean and Japanese researchers. In this program, we have been carrying out a precise radial velocity survey of about 190 G-type giant stars (6.21.9 solar masses) giant stars. These results extend the planet mass distribution of massive intermediate-mass stars to higher and lower mass region, and may further constrain substellar system formation mechanisms. We report the recent results and current status of Korean-Japanese Planet Search Program.

  • To obtain basic information on the breeding of burley tobacco, classification of 41 varieties was carried out by using the cluster analysis of correlation coefficients and taxonomic distance based on twenty-one agromonic characters. Eight characters, such as days to flowering, length of flower axis, internode length, leaf length, yield, leaf angle to stem, vein angle to midrib and plant height, were useful in monothetic classification. Forty-one varieties were classified into four groups (I, II, III and IV) with weighted variable group method (WVGM ) and weighted jai. group method(WPGM), whereas the results classification of 33 varieties among them by WVGM were coincident with the results by WPGM. As for the characteristics of each group, group I related to late maturity, tall height and high yield, group II related to intermediate maturity, tall height and low yield, group 19 related to early maturity, intermediate height and low yield, and group W related to early maturity, short height and intermediate yield.

  • The photometry is reported for galaxies in two clusters A1983, 2065 with redshifts 0.046, 0.072 respectively. The luminosity segregation is observed only within a magnitude from the brightest galaxy. The alignment of the galaxy major axis is observed in the Corona Borealis cluster. The intermediate distance clusters (0.05 < z < 0.15) will be studied by CCD mounted on 125cm RCh and 70cm meniscus type telescopes.

  • For multi-stage deep drawing process including ironing operation and biaxial forming in this study, tool developments are achieved, and the developed tool sets are applied to experimental investigations. In process and tool designs, a contact condition between intermediate blank and lower die is considered as the sequential one. In this study, the material used is cold-rolled thin sheet (SPCE) with the initial thickness of 0.4mm. From the experimental approaches, several failures such as tearing, localized thickening and thinning, are observed. To solve these failures, the contact surface on the lower die is modified. As the experimental results by applying the modified lower die, it is investigated that the failures are not occurred, and the excessive deformation behavior due to the thinning and thickening effects are decreased. Furthermore, the thickness distributions on the major axis and the minor axis of each intermediate blank are investigated to be already satisfied the target (ironing) thickness, respectively. By this systematic approach, it is confirmed that the experimental results show good agreements with the designed and required configuration of each deformed and final products.

  • We combine the physics of the ellipsoidal collapse model with the excursion set theory to study the shapes of dark matter halos. In particular, we develop an analytic approximation to the nonlinear evolution that is more accurate than the Zeldovich approximation; we introduce a planar representation of halo axis ratios, which allows a concise and intuitive description of the dynamics of collapsing regions and allows one to relate the final shape of a halo to its initial shape; we provide simple physical explanations for some empirical fitting formulae obtained from numerical studies. Comparison with simulations is challenging, as there is no agreement about how to define a non-spherical gravitationally bound object. Nevertheless, we find that our model matches the conditional minor-to-intermediate axis ratio distribution rather well, although it disagrees with the numerical results in reproducing the minor-to-major axis ratio distribution. In particular, the mass dependence of the minor-to-major axis distribution appears to be the opposite to what is found in many previous numerical studies, where low-mass halos are preferentially more spherical than high-mass halos. In our model, the high-mass halos are predicted to be more spherical, consistent with results based on a more recent and elaborate halo finding algorithm, and with observations of the mass dependence of the shapes of early-type galaxies. We suggest that some of the disagreement with some previous numerical studies may be alleviated if we consider only isolated halos.

  • Shock-wave focusing from a two-dimensional parabolic reflector was simulated using an explicit finite volume upwind TVD scheme. Computations were performed for three different incident shock speeds of $M_s$ = 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, corresponding to the relatively weak, intermediate, and strong shock waves, respectively. Numerical solutions nicely resolved all the waves evolving through the focusing process. As the incident shock strength increase, a transition was observed in the shock-fronts geometry that was caused by the change in the reflection type of converging shock fronts on the axis of symmetry, from regular-type to Mach-type reflection. The computed maximum on-axis pressure amplification and the trajectories of three-wave intersections showed good agreement with experimental results. The strong nonlinear effect near the focal region which determines the shock-fronts geometries at and behind the focus and at the same time confines the pressure amplification at the focus was clearly revealed from the present numerical simulation.

  • In this study, we analyzed fish tolerance guilds in mainstems and tributaries of 65 streams and rivers arid their relations to water quality using dataset sampled from April to November, 2009. For the study, water quality parameters including biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), electric conductivity (EC), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), ammonia nitrogen ($NH_3$-N), nitrate nitrogen ($NO_3$-N) and phosphate phosphorus ($PO_4$-P) were analyzed in the laboratory and also tolerance ranges in 3 category fishes of sensitive, intermediate, and tolerant species with high abundance were analyzed. According to fish guild analysis, tolerant species was 58% of the total community and the proportion of omnivore species was 63% of the total, indicating a degradation of habitats and water quality. Water quality was shown typical longitudinal gradients from the headwater to the down-river; TN and TP increased toward the down-rivers except for the big point-source area and ionic contents, based on, electric conductivity showed same pattern. Tolerance guild analysis of 9 major species with high abundance indicated that sensitive groups had narrower tolerance range in the water quality than the groups of intermediate and tolerant species. In contrast, tolerant groups including Zacco platypus, Carassius auratus, and Opsarichthys uncirostris amurensis had wider tolerance ranges than the groups of sensitive and intermediate species. Thus, each group was evidently segregated from the tolerance levels. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) employed for the relations of water quality to fish species in each groups suggests that water quality had highest eigenvalues with fish species in the 1st axis of the PCA and nitrogen (TN, $NH_3$-N, $NO_3$-N) and phosphorus (TP) were key components differentiating three groups of sensitive, intermediate and tolerance guilds.
