  • The analysis and design procedure of intermediate support strut for the innovative prestressed scaffolding (IPS) system was presented in this paper. The stability check of intermediate support strut is required as the behavior of the strut system is similar to that of the built-up column. The computer analysis model of the support strut was constructed for in-plane and out-of-plane buckling analysis, and the design of the support strut was performed. Using the eigenvalue for the buckling load and the member forces of support strut under design earth pressure, the effective buckling length was estimated. The allowable axial and bending stresses were calculated considering the effective buckling length. The combined stresses due to these axial forces and bending moment were estimated to be satisfied the safety condition of the intermediate support strut.

  • This research aims to integrate study results through a meta-analysis of previous studies on the variables related with social support for female marriage immigrants. Based on the results, this study established the foundation of an integrated social support system for female marriage immigrants which considers both the functional perspective and structural perspective of social support, and suggested plans for an efficient support system. All social support was positively associated with female marriage immigrants marriage life, child-rearing behavior and attitude, reduction of stress and depression and psychological stability. In relation to the effect size of each variable related with all social support, the marriage variable had the biggest relationship with it, followed by the parenting variable, the psychological variable and the stress variable in that order. With reference to the relationship with related variables according to the sub-domain of social support, from the structural perspective, spousale support showed a high relationship with the marriage variable and the stress variable. It was also especially, very highly related with the marriage variable. In addition, a married woman's family support and expert support had an intermediate relationship with the marriage variable, and the husband's family support and friend support had a low relationship with it. From the functional perspective, material support had a very high relationship with the marriage variable, whereas it had a low relationship with the stress variable and the psychological variable. Emotional support was also highly related with marriage variable, but showed an intermediate or low relationship with the psychological variable and the stress variable. On the other hand, informational support displayed an intermediate relationship with the stress variable and the psychological variable, and a high relationship with the marriage variable. Lastly, evaluative support had a high relationship with the marriage variable and the psychological variable. Based on these results, this study proposed plans for an integrated social support system as follows. First, education ought to be provided for the spouses, and support for marital adjustment should be offered. Second, there plans should be made for continuous bonding with the family of origin, and support should be given to address changes in awareness of the relationship with the husband's parents. Third, it is required to revitalize the local community and self-help groups, and provide the female marriage immigrants with opportunities to participate in social activities.

  • Intermediate filaments are the mechanical ropes for both cytoskeleton and nucleoskeleton of the cell which provide tensile force to these skeletons. In providing the mechanical support to the cell, they are likely to buckle. We used conventional Euler buckling model to find the critical buckling force under different boundary conditions which they assume during different functions. However, there are many experimental and theoretical studies about other cytoskeleton components which demonstrate that due to mechanical coupling with the surrounding surface, the critical buckling force increases considerably. Motivated with these results, we also investigated the influence of surface effects on the critical buckling force of intermediate filaments. The surface effects become profound because of increasing ratio of surface area of intermediate filaments to bulk at nano-scale. The model has been solved analytically to obtain relations for the critical forces for the buckling of intermediate filaments without and with surface effects. We found that critical buckling force with surface effects increases to a large extent due to mechanical coupling of intermediate filaments with the surrounding surface. Our study may be useful to develop a unified experimental protocol to characterize the physical properties of Intermediate filaments and may be helpful in understanding many biological phenomenon involving intermediate filaments.

  • This paper discussed on the effect of an intermediate support on the stability of a beam resting on elastic foundation subjected to follower force. The stability and dynamic responses of a beam resting on elastic foundation subjected to follower force are analyzed based on the finite element method. The dynamic responses of the system are studied by the mode superposition method to observe the damping rate of the motion. The beam resting on elastic foundation subjected to follower force loses its stability by flutter type or divergence type, depending on the location of the intermediate support.

  • The present work aims at investigating the nonlinear dynamics, bifurcations, and stability of an axially accelerating beam with an intermediate spring-support. The problem of a parametrically excited system is addressed for the gyroscopic system. A geometric nonlinearity due to mid-plane stretching is considered and Hamilton's principle is employed to derive the nonlinear equation of motion. The equation is then reduced into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations with coupled terms via Galerkin's method. For the system in the sub-critical speed regime, the pseudo-arclength continuation technique is employed to plot the frequency-response curves. The results are presented for the system with and without a three-to-one internal resonance between the first two transverse modes. Also, the global dynamics of the system is investigated using direct time integration of the discretized equations. The mean axial speed and the amplitude of speed variations are varied as the bifurcation parameters and the bifurcation diagrams of Poincare maps are constructed.

  • A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and tower structures, with irregular cross sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by Kim, D. H. in 1974. In this paper, the result of application of this method to the subject problem is presented. The structure considered for this report is two span continuous special orthotropic plates with elastic intermediate support. The use of elastic support as one of the passive control means is common. Any method may be used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for this vibration analysis. Finite difference method is used for this purposa in this paper. The influence of the modulus of the foundation, and $D_{ij}$ stiffnesses on the natural frequency is thoroughly studied.

  • Respiratory failure is the most serious manifestation and usual cause of death in acute organophosphate poisoning, and is common in acute cholinergic crisis. But the respiratory failure may appear suddenly in a patient who is recovering from the cholinergic crisis, even while receiving conventional therapy. These are case report of 37 years old male and 24 years old female with intermediate syndrome in organophosphate poisoning. The two patients ingested organophosphate(fenthion and mixture of DDVP with chlorpyrifos respectively) incidentally and in a sucide attempt respectively. After apparent recovery from the cholinergic crisis with a conventional therapy but before the expected onset of delayed polyneuropathy, the respiratory failure appeared suddenly with a muscular weakness, affecting predominantly the proximal limb muscles, neck flexors, territories of several motor cranial nerves. The two patients needed mechanical ventilatory support and recovery from the intermediate syndrome was complete in both patients, although one subsequently developed hypoxic encephalopathy. The clinical manifestation and electrophysiologic study support the clinical diagnosis of intermediate syndrome. The syndrome carries a risk of death. because of respiratory paralysis, if not recognized early and treated adequatedly. Prompt endotrachial intubation and mechanical ventilatory support is the cornerstone of treatment of the intermediate syndrome. Therefore, all patient should be observed in a hospital for up to 5 days after poisoning.

  • This study examined patterns of engaging in "reading in connection to writing" (hereafter reading-writing practices) in the context of two ESL college composition classrooms. The purpose of this study was to explore whether the L2 proficiency level could be a key construct in explaining similarities and differences in reading-writing practices which students engaged in during the composing process. Multiple sources of data collected over the semester included interview protocols, written products, and observational notes. The results showed that the three proficiency groups under examination differed widely in the ways reading was connected to writing and in the types of intermediate texts produced during the composing process. The students in the high proficiency group produced more intermediate texts through an engagement in reading-writing practices connected to each other. On the contrary, the students in lower proficiency groups engaged in a limited range of reading-writing practices without support of intermediate texts. This study provides insight into the different ways ESL college students coordinate reading and writing while composing essays.

  • The theoretical method is developed to investigate the vibration characteristics for the partially fluid-filled continuous cylindrical shells with the intermediate supports. The intermediate supports are simulated by two types of artificial springs : the translational spring for the translation for each direction and the rotational spring for a rotation. The springs are continuously distributed along the circumferential direction. By allowing the spring stiffness to become very high compared to the stiffness of the structure, the rigid intermediate supports are approximated. In the theoretical procedure, the Love's thin shell theory is adopted to formulate the theoretical model. The frequency equation of the continuous cylindrical shell is derived by the Rayleigh-Ritz approach based on the energy method. Comparison and convergence studies are carried out to verify and establish the appropriate number of series term and the artificial spring stiffness to produce results with an acceptable order of accuracy. The effect of intermediate supports, their positions and fluid level on the natural frequencies and mode shapes are studied.

  • The study aims to explore the policy directions for young farmers within Korean agricultural context, particularly in Chung-nam Province. In order to accomplish this, young farmers were classified into three categories: successors, new farmers, potential farmers. The importance of young farmers is becoming more of a focus due to decline of population numbers in rural communities as well as the aging of agriculture population. In order to address these two problems, it is necessary to create and implement policy to support each category of young farmer. Rather than the current focus on nurturing young farmers as a labor force, the role of young farmers in maintaining local communities should be expanded in current agricultural system. The local community should provide appropriate conditions for young farmers in Chung-nam Province for the various purposes they have and the roles they fill. In conclusion, it is necessary to provide a 'space' where young farmers can meet base on the community. For this, the role of the community based intermediate support organization for the integrated support system is of great significance.
