  • Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET belongs to the family of wide-band gap devices with inherit property of low switching and conduction losses. The stable operation of SiC MOSFET at higher operating temperatures has invoked the interest of researchers in terms of its application to high power density (HPD) power converters. This paper presents a performance study of SiC MOSFET based two-phase interleaved boost converter (IBC) for regulation of avionics bus voltage in more electric aircraft (MEA). A 450W HPD, IBC has been developed for study, which delivers 28V output voltage when supplied by 24V battery. A gate driver design for SiC MOSFET is presented which ensures the operation of converter at 250kHz switching frequency, reduces the miller current and gate signal ringing. The peak current mode control (PCMC) has been employed for load voltage regulation. The efficiency of SiC MOSFET based IBC converter is compared against Si counterpart. Experimentally obtained efficiency results are presented to show that SiC MOSFET is the device of choice under a heavy load and high switching frequency operation.

  • This paper proposes a new phase current reconstruction technique for interleaved three-phase bidirectional dc-dc converters using a single current sensor. In the proposed current reconstruction algorithm, a single current sensor is employed at the dc-link, and the dc-link current information is sampled at either the peak or valley point of the pulse-width modulation (PWM) carriers regularly. From the obtained current information, all phase currents are reconstructed in a single PWM cycle. After that, the digital current controller is applied to achieve current balancing in each phase. Compare to the previous multiple current sensor method, the proposed strategy reduces the number of the current sensors in the interleaved three-phase bidirectional converter as well as reducing potential current sensing error caused by non-ideal characteristics of the multiple current sensors. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified from the experiments based on a 3kW three-phase bidirectional converter prototype for the automotive battery charging application.

  • An interleaved single-stage power-factor-correction (PFC) AC/DC converter is presented in this paper. The proposed converter is combined by two single-stage AC/DC converters based on flyback converter Each PFC stage operates in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). By exploiting the interleaving technique, the input ripple current and output ripple voltage are reduced. The proposed converter complied with EN/1EC61000-3-2 harmonic regulations achieves high efficiency and low cost. • To achieve high efficiency and reliability, multiphase interleaved converters with coupled inductors have been widely applied. In this paper, a coupled inductor design method for 2-phase interleaved boost converters is presented. A new area product equation is derived to select the proper core size. The wire size, number of turns and air gap length are also determined by using the proposed coupled inductor design method. Finally, the validity of the proposed coupled inductor design method is confirmed by simulation and experimental results obtained from a design example.

  • An LLC series resonant converter has many unique characteristics and improvements over PWM topologies. However, many output capacitors are needed in parallel to satisfy output voltage ripple and the rated ripple current of the capacitors. This paper deals with a novel two phase interleaved LLC resonant converter using a phase of the resonant capacitor. The proposed converter can satisfy output voltage ripple and a rated ripple current of capacitors with few output capacitors, relatively. The operation and features are considered in detail and a prototype with a 12V-100A output is investigated.

  • A novel single-stage AC/DC converter with the soft-switching characteristic based on interleaving technology and an LLC topology is proposed here. The converter is integrated by an interleaved cell and an LLC cell. Because the components of the system are reduced as a result of integrating, the cost decreases. Since interleaving technology is adopted, the converter can work in a high voltage input state. The LLC topology chosen here ensures that the switches on the primary side work in the ZVS condition and that the diodes on the secondary side work in the ZCS condition, which decreases the switching loss of the system. A theoretical analysis and the design procedures of the proposed converter are proposed and discussed in detail. Simulations and experimental studies with a 100W prototype are done to prove the analysis.

  • A new DC/DC converter with zero voltage switching is proposed for applications with high input voltage and high load current. The proposed converter has two circuit modules that share load current and power rating. Interleaved pulse-width modulation (PWM) is adopted to generate switch control signals. Thus, ripple currents are reduced at the input and output sides. For high-voltage applications, each circuit module includes two half-bridge legs that are connected in series to reduce switch voltage rating to $V_{in}/2$. These legs are controlled with the use of asymmetric PWM. To reduce the current rating of rectifier diodes and share load current for high-load-current applications, two center-tapped rectifiers are adopted in each circuit module. The primary windings of two transformers are connected in series at the high voltage side to balance output inductor currents. Two series capacitors are adopted at the AC terminals of the two half-bridge legs to balance the two input capacitor voltages. The resonant behavior of the inductance and capacitance at the transition interval enable MOSFETs to be switched on under zero voltage switching. The circuit configuration, system characteristics, and design are discussed in detail. Experiments based on a laboratory prototype are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

  • A current balance problem exists in multi-phase LLC converters due to the resonant parameter tolerance. This paper presents a current balancing method for interleaved three-phase half bridge LLC converters. This method regulates the phase shift angle of the driving signals between the three phases based on a converter with a floating Y-connection. The floating midpoint voltage has different influences on each phase current and makes the three-phase current balance performance better than midpoint non-floating systems. Phase shift control between modules can further regulate the midpoint voltage. Then three phase current sharing is realized without adding extra components. The current distributions in a midpoint non-floating system and a midpoint floating system are compared. Then the principle and implementation of the proposed control strategy are analyzed in detail. A 3kW prototype is built to verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed method.
