ACOUSTIC EMISSION BEHAVIOR DURING STRESS CORROSION CRACKING OF INCONEL 600

  • Acoustic Emission (AE) technique was applied to stress corrosion cracking of Inconel 600 to investigate the AE capability of detecting crack growth and to obtain the relation between AE characteristics and crack mechanism. The specimens were heat-treated in two conditions (600$^{\circ}C$ for 30 hrs or 700 $^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr) and undergone CERT at two extension rates ( 2.5${\times}$10$^{-5}$ or 1.25${\times}$10$^{-4}$(mm/s)). It was found that the AE peak amplitude from plastic deformation was generally smaller than about 48dB (0.25mV), while Intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) and ductile fracture produced higher values of 49 to 70dB (0.3mV to 3mV). The slopes of cumulative amplitude distribution (b-values) were linearly dependent on IGSCC susceptibility and the higher the susceptibility, the smaller the b-value. The monitoring of combined AE parameters such as event rate, amplitude, count and energy can provide effective means to clearly identify the transition from crack initiation and small crack growth to rapid growth of dominant cracks.

  • Inconel 600 alloy is used as the material of nuclear steam generator tubing because of its mechanical properties, formability, and corrosion properties. According to reports, the life time of nuclear power plants decreases because of the pitting, intergranular attack, primary water stress corrosion cracking(PWSCC), and intergranular stress corrosion cracking(IGSCC), and denting in the steam generator. The SCC test is very important because of SCC appears in various environment such as solutions, materials, and stress. The C-Rig specimen was made of the steam generator welded sleeve repairing by the pulsed Nd:YAG laser. In the corrosion invironment, corrosion solutions are Primary Water, Caustic, and Sulfate solution and corrosion time is 1624-4877hr. The permitted stress is 30-60ksi.In this C-Ring SCC test is the relationship between corrosion depth, crack and corrosion environment is evaluated. SCC was happens in Sulfate and Corrosion solution but doesn't happen in Primary Water. The corrosion time and stress is very affected by the severely environment of Sulfate or Caustic solution. The microstructure observation indicates that SCC causes interganular failure in the grain boundary of vertical direction.

  • Pb-Sn eutectic bulk specimens을 thermal cycling동안 electronic package의 땜납이 격게되는 변형 조건 즉 $10^{-3}-10^{-5}$/s정도의 낮은 frequency와 0.2-1%정도의 적당한 strain range에서 피로파괴 실험을 했을때, grain boundary sliding과 관련하여 임계면을 따라 일어나는 균열이 5단계에 의해 묘사될 수 있다는 것을 보였음.

  • Ni/Ni-aluminide//Ti/Ti-aluminide 경사기능 층상 복합재료를 박막 hot press법을 이용하여 제작하였다. NiAl과 $TiAl_3$ 금속간화합물 층이 자전고온합성반응을 통해 비교적 두껍게 형성되었고, 얇고 연속적인 $Ni_3Al$과 TiAl 층이 고상 확산을 통해 형성되었다. 파괴저항은 하중 방향이 crack arrester인 경우가 금속 층이 균열의 성장을 방해하기 때문에 crack divider 방향인 경우보다 높다. $Ni_3Al$과 NiAl 금속간화합물 층은 각각 벽개파괴와 입계파괴 거동을 보였고, $TiAl_3$층의 파괴 형태는 입내벽개파괴이었다. Ni/Ni-aluminide 층에서 관찰되는 기공과 금속 층과 금속간화합물 층의 미결합 부위가 낮은 파괴저항의 원인으로 판단된다. Acoustic emission (AE) 원파형 해석을 통해 제작된 복합재료의 파괴특성을 고찰하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 보통강재인 SS 41 강을 열처리하여 얻은 M.E.F.복합조직강의 모상입경변화와 3.5% NaCl수용액의 pH변화 조건하에서 반복굽힘피로실험을 하여 부식 피로파괴에 미치는 영향에 대해 고찰하였다.

  • Mechanical components that support structures in aerospace and power generation industries require high-strength materials. Particularly, in the aerospace industry, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, and composite materials are increasingly used due to their high maneuverability and durability to withstand low temperature extreme environments; however, ultra-high-strength steel is still used in key components under heavy loads such as landing gears. In this paper, the fault cause analysis and troubleshooting of aircraft parts made of ultra-high-strength steel (300M) broken during normal operation are described. To identify the cause of the defect, a temporary inspection of the same aircraft was performed, and material testing, non-destructive inspection, microstructure examination, and fracture area inspection of the damaged parts were performed. Fracture analysis results showed that a crack in the shape of a branch developed from the tool mark in the direction of the intergranular strain. Based on the results, the cause of fracture was confirmed to be stress corrosion.

PWR환경에서 CF8M, CF8A 배관재의 부식피로특성 연구 (Corrosion Fatigue Characteristics of CF8M and CF8A on the PWR Condition)

  • In this study, corrosion fatigue characteristics of CF8M and CF8A steel were investigated on the simulated PWR condition(Temp.:$316^{\circ}C$, Pres.: 15:MPa). To make the simulated PWR condition. the special test machine consisted of INSTRON, Autoclave, LOOP and Measurement system was developed. As ${\Delta}K$ is ranged from 11 to $20MPa{\sqrt{m}}$, Crack growth rate of PWR condition is faster than air condition. Above $20MPa{\sqrt{m}}$, the crack growth rate of PWR and air condition is similar. Corrosion fatigue characteristics regardless of the ferrite contents($10{\sim}25wt.%$) is not different. After the test, the fracture surface of specimens was examined. It was difficult to verify the fracture modes such as striation, intergranular crack and cleavage and so on. As the ferrite content of CF8M is increased, the more particles covered fracture surface were peeled.

計裝化 샬피 시험법 에 의한 알루미늄 합금 용접부 의 동적파괴 인성 (The dynamic fracture toughness of aluminum alloy weld zone by instrumented charpy test)

  • The dynamic fracture toughness, fracture characteristics, impact tension and tensile properties of Al-Mg-Si T5 alloy and Al-Zn-Mg T6 alloy respectively welded with filler metal of Alcan 4043 were investigated. The dynamic fracture toughness values were obtained rapidly and simply for the specimen of small size by using instrumented Chirpy impact testing machine. the testing temperatures of the specimen were a range of room temperature and-196.deg. C. The results obtained in this experiment are summarized as follows. With decreasing the testing temperatures, dynamic tensile stress and fracture load were increased, on the other hand the deflection and impact value showed decreasing tendency in order of base metal>HAZ>weld. Changes of total absorbed energy were more influenced by the crack propagation energy than the crack initiation energy. At the low temperatures, the unstable rapid fracture representing the crack propagation appeared for the specimens of Charpy press side notched in Al-Zn-Mg alloy, but it was difficult to obtain the unstable rapid fracture in Al-Mg-Si alloy. Because of the development of plastic zone at the notch root, it was difficult to obtain thevalid $K_{1d}$ value in Al-Mg-Si alloy. Therefore the fatigue cracked specimens were effective in both Al-Mg-Si and Al-Zn-Mg alloys. With decreasing the impact testing temperatures, specimens underwent a transition from dimple-type transgranular fracture to lamella surface-type intergranular fracture because of the precipitate at the grain boundaries, impurities and crystal structure of the precipitates.s.

  • 1시간 주기로 -$35^{\circ}C$에서 +$125^{\circ}C$까지의 온도 변화에 지배되는 Leadless Ceranic Chip Carriers(LLCC'S)의 Solder접합부에서 균열이 계면을 따라 일어났다. 이런 균열이 계면을 취약하게 하는 어떤 불순물에 의한 것이 아닌지를 Scanning Auger Microprobe(SAM)을 이용해 조사했다. 그 결과 계면을 따라 일어나는 균열이 계면의 산화에 의해 일어날 수 있다는 것이 발견되었고, 그에 따라 산화에 취약해진 계면을 따라 일어나는 이런 종류의 피로 파괴현상에 대한 모델을 제시했다.

  • 평면 굽힘부식피로 시험기를 사용하여 선박용 알루미늄합금재의 부식피로파양에 관한 연구를 한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 비저항이 증가함에 따라서 초기 부식피로균열발생까지의 반복회수는 지연되고, 그 부식감수성은 감소하는 양상을 나타낸다. 2. 비저항이 감소할수록 Paris rule의 실험상수 m 값은 작아지면서 응력강도 계수값에 비해 부식에 의한 영향이 더욱 민감해 진다. 3. 알루미늄 5086 합금의 부식피로균열은 입계균열파양의 양상을 보이고 있다. 4. 응력강도계수값이 증가함에 따라 부식감수성은 감소되어지고 응력강도계수값이 40kg.mm super(-3/2) 이상일 때 부식감수성은 거의 균일하게 된다.
