  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of balancing interference on the mandibular movement and masticatory muscle activity. 5 subjects(male. average age of 24.3) without dysfuction in masticatory system were selected. The balancing interference was provided by construction of cast metal crown and onlay on the upper and lower first molars. Clinical examination, changes displacement and velocity, and muscle activity were recorded and analyzed by means of BioPak system(Bioresearch Inc., Milwaukee Wisconsin. USA). The results were as follows ; 1. In clinical examination, various symptoms were reported by all subjects after application of interference. Almost symptoms were subsided after elimination of interference. 2. In the border movements in frontal plane, lateral border movement toward non-interference side was changed according to the interference after application of interference. Immediately after removal of interference, border movements' pattern was recovered as same as before experiment. 3. During gum chewing on the non-interference side, horizontal movement was decreased immediately after application of interference(p<0.05). 1 week after application of interference, horizontal movement was more decreased in 3 subjects and showed a chopping type masticatory stroke. But in 2subjects, horizontal movement was increased to avoid interference. 4. In EMG of the mandibular rest position, no significant changes were showed in the experiment period(p>0.05). 5. During gum chewing on the interference side, the activity of opposite temporal muscle was increased immediately after application of interference(p<0.05). 1 week after application of interference. The activity of ipsilateral temporal muscle and left and right masseter muscles was increased (p<0.05). 1 week after elimination of interference, increased muscle activity was recovered about the same level as before experiment. 6. During gum chewing on the non-interference side, 1 week after application of interference, the activity of ipsilateral temporal muscle was increased (p<0.05). 1 week after elimination of interference. increased muscle activity was returned about the same level as before experiment.

  • Recently Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) has been studied because it has the advantages to be able to measure the whole-field surface deformations of engineering components and materials in industrial areas with noncontact. The speckle patterns to be formed with interference phenomena of scattering light from rough surfaces illuminated by laser light have phase informations of surface deformations. In this study we used this interference phenomena and the phase shifting method to measure the inplane deformations, together with the use of digital image equipment to process the informations contained in the speckle pattern and to display consequent interferograms on TV monitor. FEA was performed before experiments and we obtained good agreement between the experimental results and FEA.

  • ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) is new optical measuring method to be able to measure the surface deformations of engineering components and materials in industrial areas. Conventional measuring method of surface deformation such as the strain gauge have many demerits because it is contact and point-to-point measuring one. But ESPI that is non-contact, whole field measuring method can overcome previous disadvantages. The speckle pattern to be formed with interference phenomena of scattering light from rough surfaces illuminated by laser light have phase information of surface In this study we used this interference phenomena and the phase shifting method to measure the in- plane deformation, together with the use of digital equipment to process the information contained in the speckle pattern and to display consequent inter ferograms. Finally we obtained good agreement between the experimenta results and those of FEM..

  • Recently. a new technique called Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) has been developed to overcome the drawbacks of existing holography. This technique enable real-time interference fringes to be displayed directly on TV monitor without recourse to any form of photographic processing. This research was carried out for the purpose of applying the vibration analysis method employing Electronic Speckle Pattern Interference technique to the vibration analysis of uniform rectangular cantilever plate. The natural vibration frequencies found by ESPI were in fair agreement with theoretical eigen frequencies acquired using theoretical formula G. B. Warburton proposed.

  • In this paper, the optimum antenna placement is analyzed by considering the interference between airborne antennas mounted on the unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV). The analysis is implemented by selecting the antennas that the distance and operational frequency band between airborne antennas is close to each other among the omni-directional antennas. The analyzed antennas are the control datalink, TCAS(Traffic Collision & Avoidance System), IFF(Identification Friend or Foe), GPS(Global Positioning System), and RALT(Radar ALTimeter) antennas. There are three steps for the optimum antenna placement analysis. The first step is selecting the antenna position having the optimum properties by monitoring the variation of radiation pattern and return loss by the fuselage of UAV after selecting the initial antenna position considering the antenna use, type, and radiation pattern. The second one is analyzing the interference strength between airborne antennas considering the coupling between airborne antennas, spurious of transmitting antenna, and minimum receiving level of receiving antenna. In case of generating the interference, the antenna position without interference is selected by analyzing the minimum separation distance without interference. The last one is confirming the measure to reject the frequency interference by the frequency separation analysis between airborne antennas in case that the intereference is not rejected by the additional distance separation between airborne antennas. This analysis procedure can be efficiently used to select the optimum antenna placement without interference by predicting the interference between airborne antennas in the development stage.

  • The conventional channel selection method for a ZigBee communication network basically detects the energy values in all channels. In the ISM band, no license is required to use channels in this band, so there may exist various interference factors in this band. It is well known that WLAN is the major interference factor degrading the performance of ZigBee in the ISM band. In this paper, we propose an efficient channel selection algorithm which uses the pattern of two types of WLAN channel uses as the a priori information of IEEE 802.11 band IEEE 802.11g. By using the proposed algorithm, we may save the time required to select channels for the ZigBee communications.

  • The interference phenomenonof a dynamic crack propagation in a inclined DEN(double edge notched) specimen has been investigated by using the dynamic photoelasticity. One crack initiated by static loading is propagated dynamically and experiences a mixed mode condition(interference) as the crack approaches to the inclined edge notch. We use the overdeterministic least-square method to extract dynamic $K_{Id}$ K sub IId/and .sigma. $_{ox}$from the recorded dynamic photoelastic pattern surounding a running crack. The evaluated $K_{Id}$ $K_{IId}$and .sigma. $_{ox}$together with the crack propagation velocity estimate the dynamic crack interference phenomenonenonon

  • After the successful extension of the rotating planar waveguide model to Wave Optics, where a clear identification between the angular velocity of one hypothetical waveguide and the phase differences between two points on the path of one bounded mode was found, an application of the model to explain the interference theory is presented. We demonstrate that, for two bounded modes to create an interference pattern, a constrain to the relative parameters among both is imposed by the fiber optics. This result, not reported in the literature up to date, provides a new horizon to understand the interaction light-light when propagated within optical fibers.

  • Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV) is a typical flow-structure interference phenomenon which causes an unsteady flow pattern due to vortex shedding at or near the structure's natural frequency leading to resonant vibrations. VIV may cause premature fatigue failure of marine risers and pipelines. A test model was carried out to investigate the role of a stationary fairing by varying the caudal horn angle to suppress riser VIV taking into account the effect of wake interference. The test results show significant reduction of VIV for risers disposed in tandem and side-by-side. In general, fairing with a caudal horn of $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ are efficient in quelling VIV in risers. The results also reveal fairing can reduce the drag load of risers arranged side-by-side. For the tandem configuration, a fairing can reduce the drag load of an upstream riser, but will enlarge the drag force of the downstream riser.

  • Adaptive array antenna system estimates target signal, as making a null pattern toward the interference signal. However, receiving a coherent interference signal at adaptive array antenna system, as target signal is regarded as interference signal, the performance of system rapidly decreases. The main beam does not direct an incidence direction of target signal due to sensitivity in directivity error. This paper proposes beamforming algorithm which combines high order limit condition and directivity error modify method. And it minimizes degree of freedom and decreases interference signal and directivity error using proposed algorithm. This paper compares and analyzes the performance of proposed algorithm and general algorithm using simulation. In this paper, the proposed algorithm correctly estimates an incident angle, but general algorithm occurs an error of about $0.8^{\circ}$.
