The general interference is the imperative trouble for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system. Although interference has bad influences on the performance of the system, it carries energy simultaneously. In this paper, the energy-constrained relay of the SWIPT system needs to spend much time on energy collecting (EC) in the information transmission (IT) period. Therefore, we propose the scheme of interference signal energy collecting (ISEC) when the interference is strong, and the SWIPT system does not carry out IT. The relay of the system continues to collect energy and stores it until the interference has minimal impact on IT. Then the system performs IT. We divide the collected interference energy equally into several parts, and each IT block receives one part. The proposed scheme is appealing because it can reduce the time of EC in IT period to make the relay spends more time forwarding the received signal in order to improve the performance of the system throughput. Furthermore, we propose a time-switching (TS) protocol based on EC at the relay. And it allows the relay forwarding signal at an appropriate power. Under the protocol, the time of EC can be flexible according to the forwarding power that we give so that the collected energy can be used more efficiently. We give the expressions of the system throughput according to the proposed scheme and protocol. Moreover, the influence of the interference power on the system throughput is also studied.
The dynamic crack growth in ductile steel is investigated by means of the impact loaded 3 point bending (3PB) specimens. Results from experiments and numerical simulations are compared to each other. A modified 3PB specimen designed with the reduced width at its ends has been developed in order to avoid the initial compressive loading of the crack tip and also to avoid the uncertain boundary conditions at the impact heads. Numerical simulations of the experiments are made by using a finite element method (FEM) code, ABAQUS. The high speed photography is used to obtain the crack growth and the data of the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD). The direct measurements of the relative rotations of two specimen halves are made by using the Moire interference pattern.

Recently, the International Telecommunication Union allocated the 470-862 MHz band to the digital broadcasting (DB) service. Moreover, the 790-862 MHz sub-band will be allocated to the next-generation mobile system, known as the International Mobile Telecommunication - Advanced (IMT-A), and to the DB on a co-primary basis in the year 2015. Currently, two candidate technologies are available to represent the IMT-A system; the Mobile WiMAX and Long Term Evolution - Advanced (LTE-A). One of the main criteria of the IMT-A candidate is to not cause additional interference to the primary service (i.e., DB). In this paper, we address the spectrum sharing issue between the IMT-A candidates and the DB service. More precisely, we investigate the interference effect between the DB service and the mobile network, which could be either LTE-A or WiMAX. Our study proposes a spectrum sharing model to take into account the impact of interference and evaluates the spectrum sharing requirements such as frequency separation and separation distance. This model considers three spectrum sharing scenarios: co-channel, zero guard band, and adjacent channel. A statistical analysis is performed, by considering the interferer spectrum emission mask and victim receiver blocking techniques. The interference-to-noise ratio is used as an essential spectrum sharing criterion between the systems. The model considers the random distribution of the users, antenna heights, and the bandwidth effect as well as the deployment environment in order to achieve spectrum sharing. The results show that LTE-A is preferable to WiMAX in terms of having less interference impact on DB; this can eventually allow the operation of both services without performance degradation and thus will lead to efficient utilization of the radio spectrum.

In interference tolerance based spectrum sharing systems, primary receivers (PRs) are protected by a predefined peak or average interference power constraint. To implement such systems, cognitive radio (CR) transmitters are required to adjust their transmit power so that the interference power received at the PR receivers is kept below the threshold value. Hence, a CR-transmitter requires knowledge of its channel and the primary receiver in order to allocate the transmit power. In practice, it is impossible or very difficult for a CR transmitter to have perfect knowledge of this channel state information (CSI). In this paper, we investigate the impact of imperfect knowledge of this CSI on the performances of both a primary and cognitive radio network. For fixed transmit power, average interference power (AIP) constraint can be maintained through knowledge of the channel distribution information. To maintain the peak interference power (PIP) constraint, on the other hand, the CR-transmitter requires the instantaneous CSI of its channel with the primary receiver. First, we show that, compared to the PIP constraint with perfect CSI, the AIP constraint is advantageous for primary users but not for CR users. Then, we consider a PIP constraint with imperfect CSI at the CR-transmitter. We show that inaccuracy in CSI reduces the interference at the PR-receivers that is caused by the CR-transmitter. Consequently the proposed schemes improve the capacity of the primary links. Contrarily, the capacities of the CR links significantly degrade due to the inaccuracy in CSI.
For mobile wireless systems with full frequency reuse, co-channel interference near the cell coverage boundaries has a significant impact on the signal reception performance. This paper addresses an approach to efficiently mitigate the effect of downlink co-channel interference when multi-antenna terminals are used in cellular environments, by proposing a signal detection strategy combined with a system-level coordination for dynamic frequency reuse. We demonstrate the utilization of multi-antennas to perform spatial demultiplexing of both the desired signal and interfering signals from adjacent cells results in significant improvement of spectral efficiency compared to the maximal ratio combining (MRC) performance, especially when an appropriate frequency reuse based on the traffic loading condition is coordinated among cells. Both analytic expressions for the capacity and experimental results using the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) are used to confirm the performance gain. The robustness of the proposed scheme against varying operational conditions such as the channel estimation error and shadowing effects are also verified by simulation results.

Femtocell networks can be a potential method for increasing the capacity of LTE networks, especially in indoor areas. However, unplanned deployment of femtocells results in co-tier interference and cross-tier interference problems. The interference reduces the advantages of implementing femtocell networks to a certain extent. The notion of Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR) is proposed in order to reduce the impact of interference on the system's performance. In this paper, a dynamic approach for efficiently partitioning the spectrum is suggested. The goal is to enhance the capacity of femtocells, which will improve the performance of the system. The suggested strategy allocates less resources to the macrocell portion of the network, which has a greater number of femtocells deployed to maximize the utilization of available resources for femtocell users. The spectrum division would be dynamic. The proposed strategy is evaluated through a simulation using MATLAB tool. In conclusion, the results showed that the proposed scheme has the potential to boost the system's capacity.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was conducted to identify the impact of Symptom Severity and Symptom Interference on Sleep Disturbance among cancer patients. Methods: This study was conducted from October 8th to October 25th, 2012. One hundred eight cancer patients were recruited from S city in Korea. The instruments used in this study were the Symptom Severity, Symptom Interference and the Sleep Disturbance scales for patients with cancer. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: The Sleep Disturbance for cancer patients showed a significant relationship with Symptom Interference and cancer stage. The significant factors influencing Sleep Disturbance were Symptom Severity and Symptom Interference. They explained 40.5% of the variance in stage IV. Conclusion: Patients with cancer experienced Symptom Severity and Symptom Interference which led to a negative effect on Sleep Disturbance. The results suggest that intervention programs to reduce Symptom Severity, Symptom Interference could improve Sleep Disturbance for cancer patients.
Inter-cell interference (ICI) is a major problem in heterogeneous networks, such as two-tier femtocell (FC) networks, because it leads to poor cell-edge throughput and system capacity. Dynamic ICI coordination (ICIC) schemes, which do not require prior frequency planning, must be employed for interference avoidance in such networks. In contrast to existing dynamic ICIC schemes that focus on homogeneous network scenarios, we propose a novel semi-distributed dynamic ICIC scheme to mitigate interference in heterogeneous network scenarios. With the goal of maximizing the utility of individual users, two separate algorithms, namely the FC base station (FBS)-level algorithm and FC management system (FMS)-level algorithm, are employed to restrict resource usage by dominant interference-creating cells. The distributed functionality of the FBS-level algorithm and low computational complexity of the FMS-level algorithm are the main advantages of the proposed scheme. Simulation results demonstrate improvement in cell-edge performance with no impact on system capacity or user fairness, which confirms the effectiveness of the proposed scheme compared to static and semi-static ICIC schemes.

Femtocells have recently been recognized for their potential to boost network capacity, improve end-user QoS and throughput, and do so at a cheap cost and with ease of implementation. The use of femtocells in indoor environments, such as residential buildings with neighboring homes, is becoming more popular. Femtocells are subject to interference from other femtocells, and the unwanted effects of interference are amplified when femtocells are deployed in close proximity to one another. As a consequence, the network's overall performance is degraded to a significant degree. One of the strategies that is thought to be effective in reducing the impact of interference is altering the transmission power of the femtocells. In this paper, a dynamic downlink transmission power of femtocells is suggested. In accordance with the observed cost function unit, each femtocell automatically changes its transmission power. If a femtocell causes too much interference for its neighbors, its transmission power level will be limited by that interference's rate. A simulation experiment is conducted to validate the effectiveness of the suggested system when compared with other schemes. When compared to previous schemes, which are addressed in this study, the numerical results show that the proposed strategy could provide more capacity while also ideally mitigating the influence of interference among co-channel deployed femtocells.
