In this work, the effect of PMR-15 content on the variation of surface free energy of the DGEBA/PMR-15 blend system was investigated in terms of contact angles and mechanical interfacial tests. Based on FT-IR result of the blend system. C=O (1,772, $1,778cm^{-1}$) and C-N ($1,372cm^{-1}$) peaks appeared with imidization of PMR-15 and -OH ($3,500cm^{-1}$) peak showed broadly at 10 phr of PMR-15 by ring-opening of epoxy. Contact angle measurements were performed by using deionized water and diiodomethane as testing liquids. As a result, the surface free energy of the blends gave a maximum value at 10 phr of PMR-15, due to the significant increasing of specific component. The mechanical interfacial properties measured from the critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) and the critical strain energy release rate ($G_{IC}$) showed a similar behavior with the results of surface energetics. This behavior was probably attributed to The improving of the interfacial adhesion between intermolecules, resulting from increasing the hydrogen bondings of the blends.

The effect of Ar/N2 two-step plasma treatment on the quantitative interfacial adhesion energy of low temperature Cu-Cu bonding interface were systematically investigated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that Ar/N2 2-step plasma treatment has less copper oxide due to the formation of an effective Cu4N passivation layer. Quantitative measurements of interfacial adhesion energy of Cu-Cu bonding interface with Ar/N2 2-step plasma treatment were performed using a double cantilever beam (DCB) and 4-point bending (4-PB) test, where the measured values were 1.63±0.24 J/m2 and 2.33±0.67 J/m2, respectively. This can be explained by the increased interfacial adhesion energy according phase angle due to the effect of the higher interface roughness of 4-PB test than that of DCB test.
The trend of increasing of portable electric devices and demand for global environmental conservation have demands the development of high energy density rechargeable batteries. Lithium polymer battery has excellent theoretical energy density and energy conversion efficiency. Lithium polymer battery, included solid polymer electrolyte(SPE), can be viewed as a system suitable for wide applications from thin film batteries for microelectronics to electric vehicle batteries. The purpose of this paper is to research and development of flyash anode for lithium polymer battery. We investigated AC impedance response and charge/discharge characteristics of flyash/SPE/Li cells. The radius of semicircle associated with the interfacial resistance of flyash/SPE/Li cell increased very slowly during discharge process from 3.11V to 0.478V. And then the cell resistance was decreased at discharge process from 10% SOC to 0% SOC. Also, The radius of semicircle associated with the interfacial resistance of flyash/SPE/Li cell decreasing very slowly during charge process. And then the cell resistance was increased after 20th discharge precess. The discharge capacity based on flyash of 1st and 20th cycles was 276mAh/g and 143mAh/g.

The direct contact condensation phenomenon, which occurs when steam is injected into the subcooled water, has been experimentally investigated. Two plume shapes in the stable condensation regime are found to be conical and ellipsoidal shapes depending on the steam mass flux and the liquid subcooling. Divergent plumes, however, are found when the subcooling is relatively small. The measured expansion ratio of the maximum plume diameter to the injector inner diameter ranges from 1.0 to 2.3. By means of fitting a large amount of measured data, an empirical correlation is obtained to predict the steam plume length as a function of a dimensionless steam mass flux and a driving potential for the condensation process. The average heat transfer coefficient of direct contact condensation has been found to be in the range 1.0~3.5 ㎿/$m^2$.$^{\circ}C$. Present results show that the magnitude of the average condensation heat transfer coefficient depends mainly on the steam mass fin By using dynamic pressure measurements and visual observations, six regimes of direct contact condensation have been identified on a condensation regime map, which are chugging, transition region from chugging to condensation oscillation, condensation oscillation, bubbling condensation oscillation, stable condensation, and interfacial oscillation condensation. The regime boundaries are quite clearly distinguishable except the boundaries of bubbling condensation oscillation and interfacial oscillation condensation.

In the present work, we present the optimized the hybrid structures of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and metal nanocomposites including Cu, Al, Co and Ni using the first principle calculations based on the density functional theory. Introduction of CNTs into a metal matrix has been considered to improve the mechanical properties of the metal matrix. However, the binding energy between metals and pristine CNTs wall is known to be so small that the interfacial slip between CNTs and the matrix occurs at a relatively low external stress. The application of defective or functionalized CNTs has thus attracted great attention to enhance the interfacial strength of CNT/metal nanocomposites. Herein, we design the various hybrid structures of the single wall CNT/metal complexes and characterize the interaction between single wall CNTs and various metals such as Cu, Al, Co or Ni. First, differences in the binding energies or electronic structures of the CNT/metal complexes with the topological defects, such as the Stone-Wales and vacancy, are compared. Second, the characteristics of functionalized CNTs with various surface functional groups, such as -O, -COOH, -OH interacting with metals are investigated. We found that the binding energy can be enhanced by the surface functional group including oxygen since the oxygen atom can mediate and reinforce the interaction between carbon and metal. The binding energy is also greatly increased when it is absorbed on the defects of CNTs. These results strongly support the recent experimental work which suggested the oxygen on the interface playing an important role in the excellent mechanical properties of the CNT-Cu composite[1].
Among the next-generation solar cells, organic solar cells using organic materials are a key energy production device for the future energy generation devices, and have recently been receiving a lot of attention with rapid growth. To improve the efficiency of organic solar cells, interfacial engineering technology has been widely applied. In particular, it is widely used to improve device efficiency through energy level control by using interface engineering on the anode and cathode, which are positive electrodes, and to ultimately utilize interface engineering for tandem organic solar cells to derive excellent electrical and optical performance to produce high-performance devices. In this article, we will summarize and introduce recent research trends on interfacial engineering used in organic solar cells, and discuss the method of manufacturing high-performance organic solar cells.

The adhesion strength as well as the electrochemical properties of $LiNi_{0.4}Mn_{0.4}Co_{0.2}O_2$ electrodes containing various conductive carbons (CC) such as fiber-like carbon, vapor-grown carbon fiber, carbon nanotubes, particle-like carbon, Super P, and Ketjen black is compared. The morphological properties is investigated using scanning electron microscope to reveal the interaction between the different CC and the active material. The surface and interfacial cutting analysis system is also used to measure the adhesion strength between the aluminum current collector and the composite film, and the adhesion strength between the active material and the CC of the electrodes. The results obtained from the measured adhesion strength points to the fact that the structure and the particle size of CC additives have tremendous influence on the binding property of the composite electrodes, and this in turn affects the electrochemical property of the configured electrodes.
Interfacial durability and electrical properties of CNT or ITO coated PVDF nanocomposites were investigated for self-sensor and micro actuator applications. Electrical resistivity of nanocomposites for the durability on interfacial adhesion was measured using four points method via fatigue test under cyclic loading. CNT/PVDF nanocomposite exhibited lower electrical resistivity and good self-sensing performance due to inherent electrical property. Durability on the interfacial adhesion was good for both CNT and ITO/PVDF nanocomposites. With static contact angle measurement, surface energy, work of adhesion, and spreading coefficient between either CNT or ITO and PVDF were obtained to verify the correlation with interfacial adhesion durability. The optimum actuation performance of CNT or ITO coated PVDF specimen was measured by the displacement change using laser displacement sensor with changing frequency and voltage. The displacement of actuated nanocomposites decreased with increasing frequency, whereas the displacement increased with voltage increment. Due to nanostructure and inherent electrical properties, CNT/PVDF nanocomposite exhibited better performance as self-sensor and micro actuator than ITO/PVDF case.

In this study, a carboxylate-based anionic surfactant SLEC-3 was prepared from coconut oil and the structure was elucidated by using FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR analysis. Measurements of interfacial properties such as critical micelle concentration, static and dynamic surface tensions, emulsification index, and foam stability have shown that SLEC-3 is better in terms of interfacial activity and more effective in lowering interfacial free energy than those of SLES, which has been widely used as a conventional anionic surfactant in the detergent industry. Biodegradability, acute oral toxicity and dermal irritation tests also revealed that SLEC-3 surfactant possesses excellent mildness and low toxicity, indicating the potential applicability in detergents and cleaner products formulation.

A proper stacking force and assembly are important to the performance of fuel cell. Improper assembly pressure may lead to leakage of fuels and high interfacial contact resistance, excessive assembly pressure may result in damage to the gas diffusion layer and other components. The pressure distribution of gas diffusion layer is important to make interfacial contact resistance less for stack performance. To analyze the influence of design parameter factors for pressure distribution, and to optimize stack design, DOE (Design of Experiment) was used for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell stack pressure test. As commonly known, the higher clamping force improves the fuel cell stack performance. However, non-uniformity of stress distribution is also increased. It shows that optimization between clamping force and stress distribution is needed for well designed structure of fuel cell stack. In this study, stack design optimization method is suggested by using FEM (Finite Element Methode) and DOE for light-weighted fuel cell stack.
