LSGM(($La_xSr_{1-x})(Ga_yMg_{1-y})O_3$) electrolyte is known to show very serious interfacial reaction with other unit cell components, especially with an anode. Such an interfacial reaction induced the phase instability of constituent component and deterioration of the unit cell performance, which become the most challenging issues in LSGM-based SOFCs. In this study, we fabricated LSGM($La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Ga_{0.83}Mg_{0.17}O_x$) electrolyte supported-type cell in order to avoid such interfacial problem by lowering the heat-treatment temperature of the electrode fabrication. According to the microstructural and phase analysis, there was no serious interfacial reaction at both electrolyte/anode and electrolyte/cathode interfaces. Moreover, from the electrochemical characterization of the unit cell performance, there was no distinct deterioration of the open cell voltage as well as an internal cell resistance. These results demonstrate the most critical point to be concerned in LSGM-based SOFC is either to find a proper electrode material which will not give any interfacial reaction with LSGM electrolyte or to properly adjust the processing variables for unit cell fabrication, to reduce the interfacial reaction.

The interfacial zone in concrete materials is extensive, geometrically complex, and constitutes inherently weak zones that limit the concrete performance. Motar-aggregate interfaces play a major role in the fracture processing in concrete composites. Also, the interfacial bond considerably influence mechanical properties of concrete such as modulus of elasticity, strength, and fracture energy, Characterization of the interfacial properties is, therefore, essential to overcome the limitations associated with the interfaces. an objective of this paper is to investigate the corelationship between the fracture toughness of mortar-aggregate interface and the concrete properties such as strengths and elastic moduli. It is observed from the test results that interface fracture toughness is closely related with the compressive strength rather than other properties. At early ages, the development of both tensile strength and elastic modulus are much greater thatn that of both interface fracture toughness and compressive strength.
This study intends to provide the analytical and experimental damping characterization of carbon nanotube/epoxy composites. A constitutive model based on continuum mechanics is employed to describe epoxy and the perfectly bonded and partially bonded nanotubes. An interfacial stick-slip between the nanotubes and epoxy is considered to characterize the damping of the composites. For experimental estimation, beam-type specimens are prepared with a variation of nanotube concentration from 0.5% to 2% in weight. An ultrasonic agitation method is employed for enhancing the nanotube dispersion within epoxy. Damping of the composites is characterized in terms of the strain and the nanotube concentration. Results show that the nanotube concentration significantly affects the damping characteristics of the nanocomposites. A good correlation is found between the analytical prediction based on the stick-slip and the experimental measurements.

This study dealt with the suppression of interfacial reaction between Nb and MoSi$_2$ for the fabrication of high toughness Nb/MoSi$_2$ laminate composites, based on the results of a thermodynamical estimation. Especially, the effect of ZrO$_2$ particle on the interfacial reaction of Nb/MoSi$_2$ bonding materials has been examined. Nb/MoSi$_2$ bonding materials have been successfully fabricated by alternatively stacking matrix mixtures and Nb sheets and hot pressing in the graphite mould. The addition of ZrO$_2$ particle to MoSi$_2$ matrix is obviously effective for promoting both the interfacial reaction suppression and the sintered density of Nb/MoSi$_2$ bonding materials, since it is caused by the formation of ZrSiO$_4$ in the MoSi$_2$-ZrO$_2$ matrix mixture. The interfacial shear strength of Nb/MoSi$_2$ bonding materials also decreases with the reduction of interfacial reaction layer associated with the content of ZrO$_2$ particle and the fabrication temperature.
This article briefly reviews the results of recently reported research on high-temperature Pb-free solder alloys and the research trend for characterization of the interfacial reaction layer. To improve the product reliability of high-temperature Pb-free solder alloys, thorough research is necessary not only to enhance the alloy properties but also to characterize and understand the interfacial reaction occurring during and after the bonding process. Transmission electron microscopy analysis is expected to play an important role in the development of high-temperature solders by providing accurate and reliable data with a high spatial resolution and facilitating understanding of the interfacial reaction at the solder joint.
The microstructure and mechanical property of the Ni and Ni-Cr porous metal reinforced AC4C matrix composites fabricated by squeeze casting were investigated. In this study Ni, Ni-Cr porous metals which are estimated to be easy to fabricate by squeeze casting are used as strengtheners for composite materials. As a matrix material, Al-7wt.%Si-0.3wt.%Mg(AC4C) has been used. In case of Ni/AC4C and Ni-Cr/AC4C composite, $750^{\circ}C$ melt temperature and minimum 25MPa squeezing pressure are needed to produce sound composite materials. The observation of interfacial reaction zone at various heat treatment condition shows that atsolutionizing temperature of above $520^{\circ}C$, the interfacial reaction zone increases proportionally with heat treatment time and the reaction products formed by interfacial reactions are mainly composed by $Al_{3}Ni$ and $Al_{3}Ni_{2}$ phases.
A composite active layer was designed based on graphene quantum dots, which is a low-dimensional structure, and a heterogeneous active layer of graphene quantum dots was applied to the interfacial defect structure to overcome the limitations. Increasing to 1.5~3.5 wt % PVP GQD, Vf changed from 2.16 ~ 2.72 V. When negative deflection is applied to the lower electrode, electrons travel through the HfOx/ITO interface. The Al + ions are reduced and the device dominates at low resistance. In addition, as the PVP GQD concentration increased, the depth of the interfacial defect decreased, and the repetition of appropriate electrical properties was confirmed through Al and HfOx/ITO. The low interfacial defects help electrophoresis of Al+ ions to the PVP GQD layer and the HfOx thin film. A local electric field increase occurred, resulting in the breakage of the conductive filament in the defect.

LSGM is known to show very serious interfacial reaction with other unit cell components, such as electrode, electrode functional or buffering layers. Especially, the formation of very resistive LaSr$Ga_{3}$$O_{7}$ phase at the interface of an anode and an electrolyte is the most problematic one in LSGM-based SOFCs. In this study, we investigated the interfacial reactions in LSGM-based SOFCs under different unit cell configurations. According to the microstructural analysis on the interfacial layer between an electrolyte and its neighboring component, serious interfacial reaction zone was observed. From the electrical and electrochemical characterization of the cell, we found such an interfacial reaction zone not only increased the internal ohmic resistance but also decreased the OCV(Open Cell Voltage) of the unit cell, and thus consequently deteriorated the unit cell performance.
In this article, the characterization of the interface of hybrid composites was discussed. Interfacial interaction in organic/inorganic hybrid composites, especially silica-containing hybrids can be characterized by fluorescence spectroscopy, small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and $^{29}Si$ NMR spectroscopy measurements.
