Development of Ecological Interface Design Prototype on Integrated Safety Management System Display in Subway Station Office (도시철도 역무실 통합 안전관리시스템 디스플레이의 Ecological Interface Design Prototype 개발)

  • Current subway station's office employee must perform safety management tasks by monitoring the various safety management systems. But these monitoring systems are limited in effective situational awareness and response to a state of emergency immediately. It is necessary to develop an integrated safety management system display. In this study, we developed subway station safety management system's (CCTV, fire detection & alarm system, screen door control equipment) integrated prototype display with ecological interface design framework and evaluated prototype display interface's usability with GOMS model. The result was that the ecological interface's performance was better than existing safety management system's interface.

  • As human-centered design has become new paradigm in the whole field of design, they make an effort to understand users in the field of graphic interface design. However, there are not much of study to systematic process for human-centered approach in graphic interface design. Therefore, in this paper, the study was conducted to develop application methodology of prototype in the graphic user interface design process. The study consists of three sections. first, definition, types and application methods are introduced by secondary research. Second, all the knowledge gathered above by secondary research are integrated in the newly proposed Prototype-based interface design process. There are many types of prototype from idea sketches on the paper to final working prototype realized by computer. It is needed to develop and test appropriate prototype with appropriate techniques by objectives of the stages. Finally, the proposed prototype-base design process is verified and exemplified through the process of using prototype in the development of multi-user educational multimedia product.

  • The opening of ubiquitous computing era prompted rapid increase in information transfer between human and computer. Such changes in computing environment requires new computing interface. In this paper, we develop a user interface prototype and framework using Avatar in Ubiquitous computing environment, which can support an active communication between human and computer based on context information. To develop the new interface, its conceptual framework with specific context information is designed in advance. In addition, this study suggests the future goal of user interface using Avatar by suggesting the requirements of constructed prototype.

  • LPM(Linear pulse motor) was developed as a prototype. In this paper, the design results of prototype and its dynamic characteristics are shown. The prototype was designed by using permeance analysis and the thrust value was also confirmed by comparing with the analysis results of the finite element method. To verify the performance of LPM. dynamic characteristics were measured. In slewing characteristic of the LPM, the thrust value of prototype LPM is higher than commercial level. A X-Y table was structured as a application of the prototype LPM. A controller and user's interface was also developed. By using this control system, the position error of X-Y table was checked. The repeat position error in linear movement was under than ${\pm}$ 100 micron.

  • According to rapid growth of a web environment, usage-centered design is being highlighted. This paper suggests the development step and algorithm to generate a user interface prototype automatically on the basis of usage-centered design. For this purpose, The transition object of the user interface is modeled from requirement analysis, and an modeling rule as well as algorithms of business events are made for the creation of the user interface. Through these processes, visual cohesions of business events become strong and unskilled designers can develop the qualified user interface prototypes. A user's understanding of business tasks can also be improved and prototype iterations reduced.

  • According to rapid growth of web environment, user interface design needs to support the complex interactions between human and computer. In the paper we suggest the object modeling method for Qualify Improvement of User Interface. We propose the 4 business event's object modeling phases such as business event object modeling, task object modeling, transaction object modeling, and form object modeling to enhance visual cohesion of UI. As a result, this 4 phases in this paper allows us to enhance visual cohesion of User Interface prototype. We have found that the visual cohesion of business events become strong and unskilled designer can develope the qualified user interface prototype. And it also improves understanding of business task and reduces prototype system development iteration.

Half-Mask Interface Prototype Design using Korean Face Anthropometric Data (한국인 안면부 인체 데이터를 이용한 마스크 계면 프로토타입 설계)

  • The mask-face interface design should consider the face shape to improve the half mask respirator's fit ratio. This study tried to design the mask-face interface using recent Korean face data. By using the data of 1536 men's 3D face scanning (Size Korea data), head clay mock-up was made and mask-face interface line was extracted from this head mock-up. Using this interface line, the half-mask prototype was made. According to the quantitative fitting test, the proposed mask was found to be well fitted (average fit-ratio > 100). The proposed method had two advantages. 1) The method could use massive head-related anthropometric data like Size Korea data. 2) The qualitative fit test (observation) could be conducted very quickly by fitting the prototype to the head mock-up. However, this method also had several limitations. 1) The head clay mock-up could be different according to the mock-up maker. 2) The average values of the head-related anthropometric data were used to make the head mock-up. Small and large size head mock-ups should be made and tested.

An Empirical Test for 'applying the Rapid Prototyping Method to the User Interface Design Evaluation (사용자 인터페이스 디자인 평가 도구로서의 래피드 프로토타이핑 방법의 유효성 검정)

  • Rapid prototyping technology has been widely applied to the design process in the industry. This technology made it easy to generate a prototype which acts like a real product in logic. However, this technology has not been validated sufficiently as a usability test method. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis : There was no significant difference between a real product and its prototype. An experiment was designed to test it statistically. a microwave oven was selected and its prototype was generated using a rapid prototyping tool. Six subjects used the microwave oven and another six subjects used the prototype to perform five scenario tasks. As a result, there was significant difference between the real product and prototype in success rate, task completion time, and number of buttons pressed. The prototype was more difficult to operate than the real product. Therefore we should be careful when we apply rapid prototyping. technology. In the discussions, the causes of the difference were identified and some guidelines were suggested for who wants to apply rapid prototyping tool to the usability test.

User Interface Design & Evaluation of Mobile Applications

  • The design functionality put forward by mapping the interactiveness of information. The presentation of such information with the user interface model indicates that the guidelines, concepts, and workflows form the deliverables and milestones for achieving a visualized design, therefore forming the right trend is significant to ensure compliance in terms of changing consideration and applying evaluation in the early stages. It is evidenced that prototype design is guided by improvement specifications, includes modes, and variables that increase improvements. The study presents five user interface testing methods. The testing methods are heuristic evaluation, perspective-based user interface testing, cognitive walkthrough, pluralistic walkthrough, and formal usability inspection. It appears that the five testing methods can be combined and matched to produce reasonable results. At last, the study presents different mobile application designs for student projects besides the evaluation of mobile application designs to consider the user needs and usability.

  • In the large and multifunctional engineering system, the heterogeneous computer system situation is inevitable. Accordingly a lot of integration efforts are being made to comply with the industrial requirement of productivity. In this paper, a practical concept of integration is introduced through the development of a prototype system for ship outfitting design which is a typical example of large/multi-functional application system. On the development of the prototype system, three points are considered as a practical concept-which are integration of database, integration of application programs, and system-user interface. The relation model based commercial database management system(RDBMS) is used to build the project integrated database, and the graphical user interface tool(OSF/Motif) on X-window system is used for the integration of application programs and the user interface.
