The availability of high-resolution laser scanning data and advanced machine learning algorithms has enabled an accurate potential rockfall source identification. However, the presence of other mass movements, such as landslides within the same region of interest, poses additional challenges to this task. Thus, this research presents a method based on an integration of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and ensemble artificial neural network (bagging ANN [BANN]) for automatic detection of potential rockfall sources at Kinta Valley area, Malaysia. The GMM was utilised to determine slope angle thresholds of various geomorphological units. Different algorithms(ANN, support vector machine [SVM] and k nearest neighbour [kNN]) were individually tested with various ensemble models (bagging, voting and boosting). Grid search method was adopted to optimise the hyperparameters of the investigated base models. The proposed model achieves excellent results with success and prediction accuracies at 95% and 94%, respectively. In addition, this technique has achieved excellent accuracies (ROC = 95%) over other methods used. Moreover, the proposed model has achieved the optimal prediction accuracies (92%) on the basis of testing data, thereby indicating that the model can be generalised and replicated in different regions, and the proposed method can be applied to various landslide studies.

The purpose of the Consumer sentiment index survey is to determine the consumer's economic situation and consumption spending plan, and it is used as basic data for diagnosing economic phenomena and forecasting the future economic direction. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and predict the future Consumer sentiment index using the ARMA model based on the past consumer index. Consumer sentiment index is determined according to consumer trends, so it can reflect consumer realities. The consumer sentiment index is greatly influenced by economic indicators such as the base interest rate and consumer price index, as well as various external economic factors. If the consumer sentiment index, which fluctuates greatly due to consumer economic conditions, can be predicted, it will be useful information for households, businesses, and policy authorities. This study predicted the Consumer sentiment index for the next 3 years (36 months in total) by using time series analysis using the ARMA model. As a result of the analysis, it shows a characteristic of repeating an increase or a decrease every month according to the consumer trend. This study provides empirical results of prediction of Consumer sentiment index through statistical techniques, and has a contribution to raising the need for policy authorities to prepare flexible operating policies in line with economic trends.
Dynamic properties are pivotal in soil analysis, yet their experimental determination is hampered by complex methodologies and the need for costly equipment. This study aims to predict dynamic soil properties using static properties that are relatively easier to obtain, employing machine learning techniques. The static properties considered include soil cohesion, friction angle, water content, specific gravity, and compressional strength. In contrast, the dynamic properties of interest are the velocities of compressional and shear waves. Data for this study are sourced from 26 boreholes, as detailed in a geotechnical investigation report database, comprising a total of 130 data points. An importance analysis, grounded in the random forest algorithm, is conducted to evaluate the significance of each dynamic property. This analysis informs the prediction of dynamic properties, prioritizing those static properties identified as most influential. The efficacy of these predictions is quantified using the coefficient of determination, which indicated exceptionally high reliability, with values reaching 0.99 in both training and testing phases when all input properties are considered. The conventional method is used for predicting dynamic properties through Standard Penetration Test (SPT) and compared the outcomes with this technique. The error ratio has decreased by approximately 0.95, thereby validating its reliability. This research marks a significant advancement in the indirect estimation of the relationship between static and dynamic soil properties through the application of machine learning techniques.
This paper is a review of studies that focus on the prediction of a won/dollar exchange rate before and after the covid 19 pandemic. The Korea economy has an unprecedent situation starting from 2021 up till 2022 where the won/dollar exchange rate has exceeded 1,400 KRW, a first time since the global financial crisis in 2008. The US Federal Reserve has raised the interest rate up to 2.5% (2022.7) called a 'Big Step' and the Korea central bank has also raised the interested rate up to 2.5% (2022.8) accordingly. In the unpredictable economic situation, the prediction of the won/dollar exchange rate has become more important than ever. The authors separated the period from 2015.Jan to 2022.Aug into three periods and built a best fitted ARIMA/ARDL prediction model using the period 1. Finally using the best the fitted prediction model, we predicted the won/dollar exchange rate for each period. The conclusions of the study were that during Period 3, when the usual relationship between exchange rates and economic factors appears, the ARDL model reflecting the variable relationship is a better predictive model, and in Period 2 of the transitional period, which deviates from the typical pattern of exchange rate and economic factors, the SARIMA model, which reflects only historical exchange rate trends, was validated as a model with a better predictive performance.
Prediction of the time-related traits of pebble flow inside pebble-bed HTGRs is of great significance for reactor operation and design. In this work, an image-driven approach with the aid of a convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed to predict the remaining time of initially loaded pebbles and the time interval of paired flow images of the pebble bed. Two types of strategies are put forward: one is adding FC layers to the classic classification CNN models and using regression training, and the other is CNN-based deep expectation (DEX) by regarding the time prediction as a deep classification task followed by softmax expected value refinements. The current dataset is obtained from the discrete element method (DEM) simulations. Results show that the CNN-aided models generally make satisfactory predictions on the remaining time with the determination coefficient larger than 0.99. Among these models, the VGG19+DEX performs the best and its CumScore (proportion of test set with prediction error within 0.5s) can reach 0.939. Besides, the remaining time of additional test sets and new cases can also be well predicted, indicating good generalization ability of the model. In the task of predicting the time interval of image pairs, the VGG19+DEX model has also generated satisfactory results. Particularly, the trained model, with promising generalization ability, has demonstrated great potential in accurately and instantaneously predicting the traits of interest, without the need for additional computational intensive DEM simulations. Nevertheless, the issues of data diversity and model optimization need to be improved to achieve the full potential of the CNN-aided prediction tool.
A corporate insolvency prediction model serves as a vital tool for objectively monitoring the financial condition of companies. It enables timely warnings, facilitates responsive actions, and supports the formulation of effective management strategies to mitigate bankruptcy risks and enhance performance. Investors and financial institutions utilize default prediction models to minimize financial losses. As the interest in utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology for corporate insolvency prediction grows, extensive research has been conducted in this domain. However, there is an increasing demand for explainable AI models in corporate insolvency prediction, emphasizing interpretability and reliability. The SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) technique has gained significant popularity and has demonstrated strong performance in various applications. Nonetheless, it has limitations such as computational cost, processing time, and scalability concerns based on the number of variables. This study introduces a novel approach to variable selection that reduces the number of variables by averaging SHAP values from bootstrapped data subsets instead of using the entire dataset. This technique aims to improve computational efficiency while maintaining excellent predictive performance. To obtain classification results, we aim to train random forest, XGBoost, and C5.0 models using carefully selected variables with high interpretability. The classification accuracy of the ensemble model, generated through soft voting as the goal of high-performance model design, is compared with the individual models. The study leverages data from 1,698 Korean light industrial companies and employs bootstrapping to create distinct data groups. Logistic Regression is employed to calculate SHAP values for each data group, and their averages are computed to derive the final SHAP values. The proposed model enhances interpretability and aims to achieve superior predictive performance.

The global climate crisis and the implementation of low-carbon policies have led to a growing interest in renewable energy and a growing number of related industries. Among them, solar power is attracting attention as a representative eco-friendly energy that does not deplete and does not emit pollutants or greenhouse gases. As a result, the supplement of solar power facility is increasing all over the world. However, solar power is easily affected by the environment such as geography and weather, so accurate solar power forecast is important for stable operation and efficient management. However, it is very hard to predict the exact amount of solar power using statistical methods. In addition, the conventional prediction methods have focused on only short- or long-term prediction, which causes to take long time to obtain various prediction models with different prediction horizons. Therefore, this study utilizes a many-to-many structure of a recurrent neural network (RNN) to integrate short-term and long-term predictions of solar power generation. We compare various RNN-based very short- and long-term prediction methods for solar power in terms of MSE and R2 values.
The most popular protein structure prediction method is comparative modeling. To guarantee accurate comparative modeling, the sequence alignment between a query protein and a template should be accurate. Although choosing the best template based on the protein sequence alignments is most critical to perform more accurate fold-recognition in comparative modeling, even more critical is the sequence alignment quality. Contrast to a lot of attention to developing a method for choosing the best template, prediction of alignment accuracy has not gained much interest. Here, we develop a method for prediction of the shift score, a recently proposed measure for alignment quality. We apply support vector regression (SVR) to predict shift score. The alignment between a query protein and a template protein of length n in our own library is transformed into an input vector of length n +2. Structural alignments are assumed to be the best alignment, and SVR is trained to predict the shift score between structural alignment and profile-profile alignment of a query protein to a template protein. The performance is assessed by Pearson correlation coefficient. The trained SVR predicts shift score with the correlation between observed and predicted shift score of 0.80.
The service, 'Hot Search Keywords', provides a list of the most hot search terms of different web services such as Naver or Daum. The service, bases the changes in rank of a specific search keyword on changes in its users' interest. This paper introduces a temporal modelling framework for predicting the rank change of hot search keywords using past rank data and machine learning. Past rank data shows that more than 70% of hot search keywords tend to disappear and reappear later. The authors processed missing rank value, using deletion, dummy variables, mean substitution, and expectation maximization. It is however crucial to calculate the optimal window size of the past rank data. We proposed an optimal window size selection approach based on the minimum amount of time a topic within the same or a differing context disappeared. The experiments were conducted with four different machine-learning techniques using the Naver, Daum, and Nate 'Hot Search Keywords' datasets, which were collected for 2 years.

The performance prediction model of a solid oxide fuel cell stack has been developed using deep neural network technique, one of the machine learning methods. The machine learning has been received much interest in various fields, including energy system mo- deling. Using machine learning technique can save time and cost requried in developing an energy system model being compared to the conventional method, that is a combination of a mathematical modeling and an experimental validation. Results reveal that the mean average percent error, root mean square error, and coefficient of determination (R2) range 1.7515, 0.1342, 0.8597, repectively, in maximum. To improve the predictability of the model, the pre-processing is effective and interpolative machine learning and application is more accurate than the extrapolative cases.
