  • The global force and interaction body force density were evaluated in permanent magnets by using the virtual air-gap scheme incorporating the finite-element method. Until now, the virtual air-gap concept has been successfully applied to calculate a contact force and a body force density in soft magnetic materials. These force calculating methods have been called as generalized methods such as the generalized magnetic charge force density method, the generalized magnetizing current force density method, and the generalized Kelvin force density method. For permanent magnets, however, there have been few research works on a contact force and a force density field. Unlike the conventional force calculating methods resulting in surface force densities, the generalized methods are novel methods of evaluating body force density. These generalized methods yield the actual total force, but their distributions have an irregularity, which seems to be random distributions of body force density. Inside permanent magnets, however, a smooth pattern was obtained in the interaction body force density, which represents the interacting force field among magnetic materials. To evaluate the interaction body force density, the intrinsic force density should be withdrawn from the total force density. Several analysis models with permanent magnets were tested to verify the proposed methods evaluating the interaction body force density and the contact force, in which the permanent magnet contacts with a soft magnetic material.

  • A density based method with homogeneous cavitation model to investigate cavitation-bubble collapsing behavior is proposed and applied to bubble-shock interaction problems. By applying this method, cylindrical bubbles located in the liquid and incident liquid shock wave are computed. Bubble collapsing behavior, shock-bubble interaction and shock transmission/reflection pattern are investigated.

  • Dynamic analysis of dam-reservoir-foundation system is usually carried out by employing a simplified and approximate one-dimensional model to account for fluid-foundation interaction. The approximation introduced on this basis is examined thoroughly in this paper by comparing the method with the rigorous approach. It is concluded that the errors due to approximate method could be very significant both for horizontal and vertical ground motions.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to regulate the medical meaning about Kwan [self-denial] which is used by Jeongkyeok [reinforcing the weak body part] and Seungkyeok [consolidating the weak body part while inducing cathartic action of comparatively stronger body part] of Saam Acupuncture in common. Methods : This study generalized the method of understanding 'The Five Viscera Interaction' in Oriental Medicine from the perspective of literature and considering human organs in the medical context. Results and Conclusions : 1. There existed 'The Five Viscera Interaction' theory regulating the correlation between the five viscera headed by "Nankyeong" in the traditional Oriental medicine. The five viscera interaction theory was used as the standard of judging the symptom and the prognosis of a disease in the history of Oriental medicine and further used even as the method of preventing and treating diseases. 2. The treatment included in "Biyebaekyobang", a medical book in the period of Goryeo, can be rated as the most developmental form of medical theory which applied 'the five viscera interaction theory' to clinical treatment. The author of "Biyebaekyobang" managed to break away from the schematism of the five viscera interaction through the method of treating two internal organs using one organ treatment and applying the individually different relations between organs. "Biyebaekyobang" shows close similarities to Saam Acupuncture. 3. The organs handled in Saam Acupuncture has a significance in that it put forward the part which had not been aggressively dealt with in medical history up until then.

  • For the vibration control of earthquake-excited buildings, an optimal design method of integrated control system considering soil-structure interaction is studied in this paper. Interaction between soils and the base of the building is simply modeled as lumped parameters and equations of motion are derived. The equations of motion are transformed into the state space equations and the probabilistic excitations such as Kanai-Tajumi power spectral density function is introduced. Then an optimization problem is formulated as finding hybrid or integrated control systems which minimizes the stochastic responses of the building structure for given constraints. In order to investigate the feasibility of the optimization method, an example design and numerical simulations are performed with tenstory building. Finally, numerical results are compared with a conventional design case that soil-structure interaction is not considered.

  • Developed proteome-scale ortholog and paralog prediction methods are mainly based on sequence similarity. However, it is known that even the closest BLAST hit often does not mean the closest neighbor. For this reason, we added conserved interaction information to find orthologs. We propose a genome-scale, automated ortholog prediction method, named OrthoInterBlast. The method is based on both sequence and interaction similarity. When we applied this method to fly and yeast, 17% of the ortholog candidates were different compared with the results of Inparanoid. By adding protein-protein interaction information, proteins that have low sequence similarity still can be selected as orthologs, which can not be easily detected by sequence homology alone.

  • A high-order accurate Euler flow solver based on a discontinuous Galerkin finite-element method has been developed for the numerical simulations of blade-vortex interaction phenomena on unstructured meshes. A free vortex in freestream was investigated to assess the vortex-preserving property and the accuracy of the present flow solver. Blade-vortex interaction problems in subsonic and transonic freestreams were simulated by adopting a multi-level solution-adaptive dynamic mesh refinement/coarsening technique. The results were compared with those of other numerical and experimental methods. It was shown that the present discontinuous Galerkin flow solver can preserve the vortex structure for significantly longer vortex convection time and can accurately capture the complex unsteady blade-vortex interaction flows, including generation and propagation of acoustic waves.

  • It is well known that the hydrodynamic interaction forces between ship and bank wall affect ship manoeuvring motions. In this paper, the calculation method based on the slender body theory for estimation of the hydrodynamic interaction forces between ship and bank wall is investigated. The numerical simulations on hydrodynamic interaction force acting on a ship in the proximity of bank wall are carried out by using this theoretical method. The theoretical method used in this paper will be useful for practical prediction of ship manoeuvrability at the initial stage of design, for discussion of marine traffic control system and for automatic control system of ship in confined waterways.

  • Mobile devices such as mobile phones or PDAs are considered as main interlace tools in ubiquitous computing environment. For searching information in mobile device, it should be possible for user to input some text as well as to control cursor for navigation. So, we should find efficient interlace method for text input in limited dimension of mobile devices. This study intends to suggest a new approach to mobile interaction using camera based virtual keyboard for text input in mobile devices. We developed a camera based virtual keyboard prototype using a PC camera and a small size LCD display. User can move the prototype in the air to control the cursor over keyboard layout in screen and input text by pressing a button. The new interaction method in this study is evaluated as competitive compared to mobile phone keypad in left input efficiency. And the new method can be operated by one hand and make it possible to design smaller device by eliminating keyboard part. The new interaction method can be applied to text input method for mobile devices requiring especially small dimension. And this method can be modified to selection and navigation method for wireless internet contents on small screen devices.
