태풍 나크리(0208)의 강도변화에 관한 진단적 분석 (A Diagnostic Analysis on the Intensity Change of Typhoon NAKRI(0208))

  • In this study, the cause of rapid intensity change of typhoon Nakri(0208) in view of point of a trough-typhoon interaction using diagnostic methods was examined based on 6-hourly GDAPS data from 10 to 13 July, 2002. At 0000 UTC 13 July, high PV(Potential Vorticity) region moved southeastward, reaching to the western edge of the Korean peninsula and near typhoon center at surface and there shows an increasing value of EFC(Eddy Momentum Flux Convergence). Also, as the trough and typhoon approach one another at the same time, the vertical shear(850-200 hPa) increases to more than 15 m/s. Thus, it might be concluded that the trough-typhoon interaction made intensified significantly, providing the fact that typhoon Nakri(0208) underwent substantial weakening while moving northward to around Jeju island.

  • The objective of this study is the evaluation of the tunneling effect on the groundwater-surface water interaction. The designed tunnel line is laid beneath the Gapo-cheon, which runs throughout study area. And, the pre-evaluation of the tunnel-influence on the Gapo-cheon is urgently needed. However, it is very difficult to find out the similar domestic and/or foreign cases. In this study, we would exclude the numerical modeling technique with insufficient data. Instead of the evaluation of the tunneling effect on the groundwater-surface water interaction with the numerical modeling, we monitored the flow rate of surface water at various point. We measured the flow rate of surface water at 5 points. With the results of surface flow, we can conclude that 39% of flow rate in Gapo-cheon is contributed by the groundwater discharge, as baseflow.

캐주얼 셔츠의 체크패턴 변인에 따른 이미지 평가 -톤 인 톤 배색을 중심으로- (The Image Evaluation according to Checked Pattern Variable of Casual Shirts -Focus on Tone-in-Tone Coloration-)

  • This study investigates the image of casual shirts according to color combination, tone, and interval of checked pattern in tone-in-tone coloration. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimulus and response scales. The stimuli were 24 color pictures, in which color combination (RY: Red+Yellow, BP: Blue+Purple), tone (light, dull, dark), and interval (0.5cm, 1.5cm, 3.5cm, and 5.5cm) were manipulated. The 7-point scale was used for evaluation of image. Data were obtained from 240 female college students living in Seoul, Gwangju, Jinju, and Changwon in April 2010. For data analysis, ANOVA and Duncan-test were used by using SPSS program. The results of this study are as follows. Image according to color combination, tone, and interval of checked pattern consisted of five dimensions of attractiveness, youth- activity, appeal, modesty, and freshness. The cover combination showed an independent effect on freshness. Tone showed an independent effect on attractiveness, youth-activity, appeal, and modesty. Interval showed an independent effect on appeal, modesty, and freshness. Interaction effects of color combination and tone on youth-activity and appeal were found. In addition, interaction effects of tone and interval on attractiveness, youth-activity, and freshness were also found.

유아의 성별에 따른 티셔츠 색상 및 톤의 착용욕구 분석 (The Analysis of Children's Wearing Need towards Hues and Tones of T-shirts based on Gender)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the analysis of children's wearing need towards hues and tones of T-shirts based on gender. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimulus and response scales. The 15 color pictures and 5-point scales were used for evaluation of wearing need. Data were obtained from 150 boys and 150 girls living in Seoul, Busan, Jinju, and Changwon on May and June 2010. For data analysis, ANOVA and Duncan-test were used by using SPSS program. Results of this study were as follows.; Hues and tones showed an independent effect on children's wearing need. Interaction effects of children's gender and tones on children's wearing need were found. Interaction effects of hues and tones on children's wearing need were found. Also, interaction effects of gender, hues, and tones on children's wearing need were found. These results suggested that children's wearing need can be affected by their gender, hues, and tones.

A numerical study on ice failure process and ice-ship interactions by Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics

  • In this paper, a Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method is extended to simulate the ice failure process and ice-ship interactions. The softening elastoplastic model integrating Drucker-Prager yield criterion is embedded into the SPH method to simulate the failure progress of ice. To verify the accuracy of the proposed SPH method, two benchmarks are presented, which include the elastic vibration of a cantilever beam and three-point bending failure of the ice beam. The good agreement between the obtained numerical results and experimental data indicates that the presented SPH method can give the reliable and accurate results for simulating the ice failure progress. On this basis, the extended SPH method is employed to simulate level ice interacting with sloping structure and three-dimensional ice-ship interaction in level ice, and the numerical data is validated through comparing with experimental results of a 1:20 scaled Araon icebreaker model. It is shown the proposed SPH model can satisfactorily predict the ice breaking process and ice breaking resistance on ships in ice-ship interaction.

파사드가 의류브랜드 점포이미지와 점포태도에 미치는 영향 (Fashion retail store facades and the creation of store image and store attitude)

  • Successful use of displays in stores arouses consumers' curiosity, and induces them to purchase a product after a visit. Facade is a word meaning an external front wall of a building, and is usually the first point of visual contact for the consumers. The present study is an empirical investigation of external appearance of a clothing store, with a $2{\times}2{\times}2$ factorial design of facade, show window, and wall surface material designed for the purpose of the study. Dependent variables were store image variables and attitude toward store. A total of 320 questionnaires from male and female consumers were used for the analysis. Facade type and material had significant main and interaction effects, while show window type had no meaningful effects overall. A facade of irregular design prompted significantly higher levels of perceived 'elegance', 'uniqueness', and 'attractiveness' of the store. Material itself did not have significant influence but did have significant interaction effect with facade design. The interaction effect was found in store attitude as well. In order to create a positive store attitude, a concrete material facade should have an irregular design. Companies owning fashion brands should carefully select facade type and wall surface material in the visual merchandising strategies of a store.

The Natural Way of Gestures for Interacting with Smart TV

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to get an optimal mental model by investigating user's natural behavior for controlling smart TV by mid-air gestures and to identify which factor is most important for controlling behavior. Background: A lot of TV companies are trying to find simple controlling method for complex smart TV. Although plenty of gesture studies proposing they could get possible alternatives to resolve this pain-point, however, there is no fitted gesture work for smart TV market. So it is needed to find optimal gestures for it. Method: (1) Eliciting core control scene by in-house study. (2) Observe and analyse 20 users' natural behavior as types of hand-held devices and control scene. We also made taxonomies for gestures. Results: Users' are trying to do more manipulative gestures than symbolic gestures when they try to continuous control. Conclusion: The most natural way to control smart TV on the remote with gestures is give user a mental model grabbing and manipulating virtual objects in the mid-air. Application: The results of this work might help to make gesture interaction guidelines for smart TV.

충돌형 분사기의 연소응답 인자 정량화에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (A Numerical Study on Combustion-Response Parameters of Impinging-Jet Injectors for Stability Rating)

  • 모형 연소실에서 충돌형 분사기의 연소 안정성 평가를 위해 시간지연(time lag)과 간섭인자(interaction index)의 관계를 연구하였다. 산화제 분사 속도의 5%에 해당하는 섭동을 공진주파수로 인위적으로 가진하여 이에 대한 화염의 응답특성을 분석하였다. 연료와 산화제의 혼합지점인 충돌점들, 즉, 특성길이 위치에서 속도섭동과 열방출율 섭동간의 관계를 시간지연 모델을 이용하여 나타내었다. 시간지연을 정량화하는 개선된 방법으로서, 수치해석을 통해 얻은 결과로부터 분사기 출구면으로부터 충돌점까지 평균속도를 이용하는 방법을 제안하였다. 축방향의 평균속도가 증가할수록 시간지연이 짧아지는 경향성을 확인할 수 있었다.

SNG/Air 예혼합 대향류 대칭화염의 후류 유동장에서 화학적 상호작용 (Chemical Interaction in Downstream Flows of SNG/Air Symmetric Premixed Counterflow Flame)

  • Experimental and numerical data were compared through a counterflow burner for the characteristic of basic flame about SNG- C11. In order to use the numerical mechanism accurately, the validation was carried out at strain rate ($a_g=30$, $120s^{-1}$) and the UCSD model showed satisfactory results. The effective Lewis number of the extinction boundary, and the behavior of extinction for the symmetric flames of the SNG-C11, could be explained through the trend of $Le_V$, and the flame of the extinction condition was inspected by the major species, key radicals and the chemical reaction paths. The interactions phenomenon in the merged flames has chemical reaction path for producing $HO_2$ were generated at stagnation point. It can be expected the one of major factors in interaction phenomenon.

Two-way fluid-structure interaction simulation for steady-state vibration of a slender rod using URANS and LES turbulence models

  • Anisotropic distribution of the turbulent kinetic energy and the near-field excitations are the main causes of the steady state Flow-Induced Vibration (FIV) which could lead to fretting wear damage in vertically arranged supported slender rods. In this article, a combined Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Computational Structural Mechanic (CSM) approach named two-way Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) is used to investigate the modal characteristics of a typical rod's vibration. Performance of an Unsteady Reynolds-Average Navier-Stokes (URANS) and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence models on asymmetric fluctuations of the flow field are investigated. Using the LES turbulence model, any large deformation damps into a weak oscillation which remains in the system. However, it is challenging to use LES in two-way FSI problems from fluid domain discretization point of view which is investigated in this article as the innovation. It is concluded that the near-wall meshes whiten the viscous sub-layer is of great importance to estimate the Root Mean Square (RMS) of FIV amplitude correctly as a significant fretting wear parameter otherwise it merely computes the frequency of FIV.
