Development of an Open Architecture CNC and Integration with Intelligent Modules (개방형 CNC 개발 및 지능형 모듈 통합)

  • This study has been focused on the development of an open architecture CNC system and integration of core application technology for machine tool such as a remote monitoring/diagnosis system, NURBS interpolation, and cutting process simulation. To do this, we have developed a comprehensive CNC software including the basic HMI, screen editor, ASF, and visual builder. As a control hardware system for machine tool, the universal I/O module and CNC main unit have been developed. Then the remote monitoring/diagnosis system and NURBS interpolation have been implemented in the CNC software. The cutting simulation software will be used for enhancing the productivity of machine tools. Through a simulator and test bed, the whole technology has been verified.

  • Monitoring of the cutting trouble is necessarily required to do Factory Automation and Intelligent manufacturing system. Therefore, we constructed a monitoring system using neural network in order to monitor of the cutting trouble.   • In radiation protection and nuclear safety, there are many uncertainties or fuzziness due to subjective human judgement. It is desirable to have a theory by which both non-probabilistic uncertainties, or fuzziness, of human factors and the probabilistic properties of machines can be treated consistently. Fuzzy set theory seems to be an effective tool for analyzing the risk and safety of complex man-machine systems such as nuclear power plants.

  • This paper presents the decision support system using fuzzy knowledge to adapt the cutting conditions chosen by a conventional expert system to a particular machine tool, workpiece and clamping system. These preliminary results demonstrate the capability of fuzzy logic to adjust cutting parameters taking into account parameters difficult to quantify.

  • Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a non-parametric productivity analysis tool, has become an accepted approach for assessing efficiency in a wide range of fields. Despite of its extensive applications and merits, some features of DEA remain bothersome. DEA offers no guideline about to which direction relatively inefficient DMUs improve since a reference set of an inefficient DMU, several efficient DMUs, hardly provides a stepwise path for improving the efficiency of the inefficient DMU.In this paper, we aim to show that DEA can be used to evaluate the efficiency of life insurance companies while overcoming its limitation with the aids of machine learning methods.

  • In this study, vibration control of the enclosed plate which is typical two dimensional structure are performed by using intelligent control method and piezo ceramic as an actuator attached at the plate. The characteristics of the plate with piezo ceramic are examined to identify the natural frequencies. Then, the plate is controlled under the sinusoidal excitation by acoustic source and the reduction level of vibration is examined via frequency response and time sequence. The control result shows the effect of the intelligent control method as a control scheme compared with that of the previous filtered-X LMS algorithm.

  • Traditionally, programs for NC machine tools have been created using either a maunual method or a computer-assisted method. However, both methods are known to be complex, time-consuming and error-prone. This paper presents an intelligent system, called "INPPC" which is interfaced with a CAD system to generate APT NC part program automatically. The INPPC is developed by using VP-Expert rule-based expert system development tool, and obtains the information about the part shape by searching the CAD database, about the process by asking the related questions to the user, and about the machine tooling by searching the tool database. The INPPC is implemented on an IBM compatible PC/AT under MS-DOS, and its performance is demonstrated by consulting a simple example problem.

  • In the manufacturing field, some traditional manufacturing and machining methods become weakened the productivity, the external competitive power, and accuracies of the products. In these point of view, the unmanned and intelligent manufacturing systems are proposed by some manufacturing companies. The real-time monitoring technology of the cutting tool conditions i.e. tool wear, tool breakage, crack, and chipping anre necessarily reauired to realize those system, especially. In this study, we constructed the multi- sensing system using the acceleration sensor, the current sensor, and the loadmeter of a machine tool. Also, we analyzed the nose breakage, the massive signal, and some monitoring features by means of the developed system.

  • To accomplish various and complex tasks by intelligent robots, improvement is needed not only in mechanical system architecture but also in control system architecture. Hybrid control architecture has been suggested as a mutually complementing architecture of the weak points of a deliberative and a reactive control. This paper addresses a control architecture of robots, and a behavior representation methodology. The suggested control architecture consists of three layers of deliberative, sequencing, and reactive as hybrid control architecture. Multi-layer behavior model is employed to represent desired tasks. 3D simulation will be conducted to verify the applicability of suggested control architecture and behavior representation method.

  • This study aims at developing the high speed/intelligent machining system using the plug/play method of an open architecture controller. The plug/play technology by the application Specific Function (ASF), can readily implement the open architecture controller into various machining system or other automatic devices. The plug/play method integrates the ASF, visual builder, controller OS technology. This study, as an example, presents a schematic diagram for integration of an open architecture CNC and individual component technology for the high speed/intelligent machining system.
