In terms of safety and the efficient management of spent fuel storage, detecting failed fuel is one of the most important tasks in a CANada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) reactor operation. It has been successfully demonstrated that in a CANDU reactor, on-power failed fuel detection and location systems, along with alarm area gamma monitors, can detect and locate defective and suspect fuel bundles before discharging them from the reactor to the spent fuel storage bay. In the reception bay, however, only visual inspection has been used to identify suspect bundles. Gaseous fission product and delayed neutron monitoring systems cannot precisely distinguish failed fuel elements from each fuel bundle. This study reports the use of a sipping system in a CANDU reactor for the integrity assessment of spent fuel bundles. The integrity assessment of spent fuel bundles using this sipping system has shown promise as a nondestructive test for detecting a defective fuel bundle in a CANDU reactor.
GPS anomaly has increased according to the degradation of satellite performance, and many GPS users could be exposed to any kinds of error-included signals without any previous notice when unscheduled error occurred. RSIM (Reference Station Integrity Monitors) is a typical monitoring method to broadcast PRC (Pseudo Range Correction) for users. However, there were some cases that the receiver detected the anomalous satellite's signal even though it was unhealthy set, consequently it occurred a large range error. Then it is important to monitor the integrity of GPS signal and it is needed to devise the correction method of pseudorange by eliminating error-occurred PRN for notification to GPS users when it is monitored that the anomaly occurred. This paper proposes the basic concept of how to correct the pseudorange. The paper also shows the analysis results of PRN10 GPS anomaly occurred on day 39 in 2007 with corrected results by eliminating anomaly satellite (PRN10). The proposed correction method shows decreased pseudorange error range compared to the case when the anomaly satellite were used.
High speed seam weldability of tin coated steels was investigated. Welding was performed by the laboratory wire seam welder that was equipped with process monitoring system Test results showed that increase in applied current and pressure reduced the total resistance across the welding electrodes. Lower and upper limits of welding current increased as the sheet thickness increased, while the acceptable welding condition range decreased. However, extremely low electrode pressure produced unstable welding condition range. The results also demonstrated that slower welding speeds widened the optimum welding heat input range.

Local monitoring is an effective technique in securing data of wireless sensor networks. Existing solutions require high communication cost for detecting false data and this results in a network lifetime being shortened. This paper proposes novel techniques of monitoring based secure data aggregation and filtering false data in wireless sensor networks. The aim is to reduce energy consumption in securing data aggregation. An aggregator and its monitoring node perform data aggregation in a 60o sextant cluster. By checking Message Authentication Codes (MAC), aggregation data will be dropped by a forward aggregator if data aggregated by the aggregator and data monitored by the monitoring node are inconsistent. The simulation shows that the proposed protocol can reduce the amount of average energy consumption about 64% when comparing with the Data Aggregation and Authentication protocol (DAA)[1]. Additionally, the network lifetime of the proposed protocol is 283% longer than that of DAA without any decline in data integrity.

Since the reliability of adhesively bonded joints for composite structures is dependent on many parameters such as the shape and dimensions of joints, type of applied load, and environment, so an accurate estimation of the fatigue life of adhesively bonded joints is seldom possible, which necessitates an in-situ reliability monitoring of the joints during the operation of structures. In this study, a self-sensor method for adhesively bonded joints was devised, in which the adhesive used works as a piezoelectric material to send changing signals depending on the integrity of the joint. From the investigation, it was found that the electric charge increased gradually as cracks initiated and propagated in the adhesive layer, and had its maximum value when the adhesively bonded joint failed. So it is feasible to monitor the integrity of the joint during its lifetime. Finally, a relationship between the piezoelectric property of the adhesive and crack propagation was obtained from the experimental results.

In this work, an efficient aircraft landing simulation strategy is proposed to develop an efficient and reliable hard-landing monitoring procedure. Landing stage is the most dangerous moment during operation cycle of aircraft and it may cause structural damage when hard-landing occurs. Therefore, the occurrence of hard-landing should be reported accurately to guarantee the structural integrity of aircraft. In order to accurately determine whether hard-landing occurs or not from given landing conditions, full nonlinear structural dynamic simulation can be performed, but this approach is highly time-consuming. Thus, a more efficient approach for aircraft landing simulation which uses a hierarchical aircraft landing model and an extended inertia relief technique is proposed. The proposed aircraft landing model is composed of a multi-body dynamics model equipped with landing gear and tire models to extract the impact force and inertia force at touch-down and a linear dynamic structural model with an extended inertia relief method to analyze the structural response subject to the prescribed rigid body motion and the forces extracted from the multi-body dynamics model. The numerical examples show the efficiency and practical advantages of the proposed landing model as an essential component of aircraft hard-landing monitoring procedure.

The purpose of this study was to examine and analysis the best practices of digital preservation policy and provide the basis theory for establishing a preservation policy for maintaining the integrity of digital contents. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, we examined the digital archiving practices for maintaining the integrity of digital contents. Especially, we focused on the storage media and file formats, the media and format conversion, disaster prevention and recovery, management and handling, inspection and monitoring, and security policies.
Nowadays, many countries are interested in using CPS far navigation system of aircrafts, because it has technical and economic benefits. For the CPS based navigation system, the most important thing is reliability of the system. GPS navigation solution is very accurate. But when some faults are raised in the CPS navigation system of an aircraft, if they cannot be detected and alerts are not generated for pilots, the aircraft cannot be safe. So, I implemented an DGPS integrity monitoring system that detects faults of measurements and exclude the fault measurement from the satellite constellation used for calculating a navigation solution. This paper introduces 'the Least Square Residual Method' used to detect faults of measurements and the implemented real time integrity monitoring system using DGPS. To test the system, I operated the system under many different conditions. And from analysis of the data recorded, I could conclude that when the number of visible satellites was enough to detect faults, the system could detect the faults of measurements perfectly, isolate and exclude the fault measurement well. But for more reliable system, the measurement errors must be estimated more accurately and integrations of CPS and other instruments must be developed.
GNSS is a satellite-based radio navigation aid. For using it in civil air navigation area, any
GNSS service should meet the requirements of accuracy, integrity, continuity and availability in
each flight phase established by ICAO. In this study, a remote integrity monitoring system(RIMS)
for GNSS are proposed and explained to utilize it in the design of GNSS augmentation system
such as GBAS and GRAS. The RIMS consists of signal-in-space receiving subsystem and signal
processing subsystem. Each GPS receiver is connected to Host PC by the serial to ethernet
converting device which is able to convert serial port connection to LAN port connection in
order to exchange information via the internet. We can overcome the siting limitation of GPS
receiver and antenna, and reduce signal loses in the cable between GPS antenna and receiver.
This system is providing the development environment for GBAS CAT-I system.

Objectives: Nail has been a substitute DNA source for genotyping. To investigate the integrity and consistency of nail DNA amplification for biomarker study, nail clippings from 12 subjects were collected at monthly intervals. The possibility of longer amplification and existence of GAPDH RNA/protein, were also investigated with three nail samples. Methods: Three primer sets were designed for quantitative amplification of nuclear and mitochondrial genes and analysis of their consistency. The mean threshold cycles in amplification of the target genes were compared to test the consistency of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) performance among individual factors including age groups, sex, family, the nail source, and by the size of the amplification segments. Results: The amplification of the target genes from nail DNA showed similar integrity and consistency between the nail sources, and among the serial collections. However, nail DNA from those in their forties showed earlier threshold cycles in amplification than those in their teens or seventies. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) showed better DNA integrity and consistency in amplification of all three targets than did nuclear DNA (nucDNA). Over 9 kb of mtDNA was successfully amplified, and nested quantitative PCR showed reliable copy numbers (%) between the two loci. Reverse transcription PCR for mRNA and immunoblotting for GAPDH protein successfully reflected their corresponding amounts. Regarding the existence of RNA and protein in nails, more effective extraction and detection methods need to be set up to validate the feasibility in biomarker study. Conclusions: Nail DNA might be a feasible intra-individual monitoring biomarker. Considering integrity and consistency in target amplification, mtDNA would be a better target for biomarker research than nucDNA.
