Effects of Virtual Reality Exercise Program after Applying Taping and Microwave on Balance with Functional Ankle Instability (테이핑과 극초단파를 적용 후 가상현실 운동 프로그램이 기능적 발목 불안정성 균형에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the virtual reality exercise program on ankle balance with ankle taping or microwave. Methods : This study was performed on 18 subjects. Eighteen subjects were divided into two groups; conducted virtual reality exercises with taping (n=9), and performed virtual reality exercises after microwave application (n=9). Both groups performed the exercise three times a week for four weeks. The data was analyzed by the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for comparing before and after changes of factors in each group and performed the Mann-Whitney test for comparing groups. Result : Taping and microwave groups were increased dynamic balance after virtual reality exercises (p<.05). There was no significant difference in balance after applying taping and microwave for virtual reality exercises (p<.05). Conclusion : Reducing the frequency of recurrent ankle sprain in functional ankle subjects, it is recommended to perform virtual reality exercise after applying taping and microwave.

Effects of Immersive Virtual Reality Intervention on Upper Extremity Function in Post-Stroke Patients (몰입형 가상현실 프로그램 Rapael Smart Glove가 뇌졸중 환자의 상지기능에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an immersive, virtual reality-based exercise program on range of motion and dexterity in the upper extremities of stroke patients. Methods: Fifteen patients with hemiparesis after stroke participated in this study. The participants participated in Rapael Semart GloveTM, an immersive, virtual reality-based exercise program, performed for 30 minutes-, 3 times per week for 4 weeks. The Rapael Smart GloveTM program and a Box and Block Test (BBT) were used to measure range of motion and to assess dexterity, respectively, pre-and post-intervention. Results: Range of motion in pronation and supination of the forearm and flexion, extension, and ulnar deviation of the wrist improved after the intervention. Dexterity measured by BBT also improved. However, range of motion in flexion and extension of the fingers and radial deviation of the wrist did not improve. Conclusion: This study presents the effects of an immersive, virtual reality-based exercise program on hand function. In the future, a study comparing an immersive, virtual reality- based exercise program to other upper-extremity interventions for stroke patients should be conducted. A study about the effects of an immersive virtual reality program on activities of daily living is also needed.

Directions for Local Community's Health Problems and Health Promotion: Focused on Local Residents's Perspectives in Busan (지역사회 건강문제 및 건강증진 방안 모색 : 부산시 일지역주민 관점에서)

  • Purpose : This qualitative study aimed to determine the health problems and thoughts regarding health promotion of residents of the community. Method : Eighteen residents living in S-gu (local area) located in Busan city and health professionals working in health-related workplaces in the area were selected as participants. Focus groups were extracted and composed, and a focus group interview was conducted for six months from November 2015 to April 2016. Data were analyzed using a phenomenological method outlined by Colaizzi. Result : There were 187 significant statements derived from the data obtained from focus group interviews. These statements were categorized into 33 meaning units based on the researcher's interpretation. Thirteen themes were derived from the derived meaning units and finally categorized into five theme clusters: "People who are trapped in," "Health is what you make yourself," "Pathetic health problems in our community," "Finding solutions to health problems," and "Shortcuts to healthy community." Conclusion : The study results can be applied to the identification of a community health problem and the construction of a long-term health promotion system. In future research, it will be necessary to conduct an experimental study on various programs and approaches for promoting community health, which reflects the solutions to the health problems in the community.

The Effect of Virtual Reality-based Sitting Balance Training Program on Ability of Sitting Balance and Activities of Daily Living in Hemiplegic Patients (앉기자세에서 실시한 가상현실 균형훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 앉기 균형 및 일상생활활동 능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : This study examined the effects of balance training using virtual reality program on sitting balance ability and activities of daily living (ADL) in stroke patients. Method : In the study, 20 patients with hemiplegia were divided into two groups: experiment group (EG) of 10 patients and control group(CG) of 10 patients. The two groups received general occupational therapy for 30 minutes, per day, at a rate of 5 times per week for 6 weeks. The EG was additionally conducted which was performed virtual reality balance training and the CG was conducted general occupational therapy balance training for 30-minutes, once a day, 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Result : The evaluations of this study included: limit of stability(LOS), modified Functional Reach Test(mFRT), and modified Barthel Index(MBI). The patients were evaluated before and after their six week training programs. Significant differences in the LOS, mFRT, MBI were found between pretest and posttest scores in both the EG and CG groups(p<.05). Also, LOS, mFRT, MBI were significant different between the groups at post-test(p<.05). Conclusion : The study findings suggest that virtual reality balance training can improve sitting balance and ADL ability in stroke patients.

Effects of Three Exercise Programs on the Length of Pectoralis Minor and Forward Head Posture (3가지의 운동프로그램이 작은가슴근의 길이와 머리전방자세에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of three exercise programs on forward head posture. Methods: Ninety-five individuals were recruited to assess the of the pectoralis minor muscle. Of these, 36 individuals with pectoralis minor muscles were selected and randomly divided into three groups: a functional massage group, a stretching group, and a stretching and muscle strengthening group. The exercise program consisted of sessions four times per week for two weeks. The length of pectoralis minor and the activity of the trapezius muscles were measured using electromyography. Forward head posture was assessed using the craniovertebral angle (CVA) and the cranial rotation angle (CRA) pre-, during and post-treatment. Result: Significant improvements were observed in pectoralis minor length, CRA, and CVA post-treatment in all groups (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). However, only the activity of the lower trapezius demonstrated a statistically significant difference post-treatment. There were no significant differences between the groups. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that all three exercise programs were effective in improving forward head posture and the length of pectoralis minor post-treatment.

A Study on the Team Sharing Spirit Model, Team Effectiveness, Team Cohesion, Team Reliability, and Turnover Intension among Hospital Nurses (병원 간호사의 팀 공유정신, 팀 효과성, 팀 응집력, 팀 신뢰도, 이직의도에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose : This study was conducted to confirm the correlation between team sharing spirit, team effectiveness, team cohesion, team reliability, and turnover intention of hospital nurses and to identify the influence factors affecting the turnover intention of hospital nurses. Methods : The sample for this study consisted of 200 nurses from four general hospitals of less than 500 beds located in J city. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe' test, Pearson Correlation and Hierarchical Multiple Regression. Results : Factors influencing nurse turnover intentions included satisfaction with nursing position (β=.274), team reliability (β=-.250), satisfaction with department (β=-.178), and career (β=.149) in order, and these influence factors accounted for 32.1 % of nurses' turnover intentions. Conclusion : Based on the results of the study, it is necessary to consider ways to reduce the turnover intention of nurses by devising strategies to increase the factors of satisfaction with nursing positions, team reliability, and satisfaction with department by making good use of the resources of the medical institution. It is suggested to conduct repeated studies of nurses working in various clinical sites and further studies applying various outcome variables in the future.

Protective Effect of NACA on Periodontal Stem Cell (NACA 처리에 따른 치주줄기세포 사멸 억제 효과)

  • Purpose :Periodontal ligament stem cells maintain tissue homeostasis in periodontal ligament. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of periodontal ligament stem cells isolated from premolar teeth and observe protective effects against oxidative damage caused by Triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) following treatment with N-acetylsysteine amide (NACA) drug known as enzymatic antioxidants. Methods : Primary periodontal ligament stem cell (PDSC) culture was performed from simply extracted human premolar of orthodontic patients. The characteristics of the primary cultured PDSCs was analyzed using the FACS system. PDSCs was incubated with TEGDMA and NACA. The cell proliferation and survival was determined using WST-1 assay. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS Window 20. Results : Primary cultured PDSCs grow on the floor and develop rapidly in a cluster form from up to 14 days. The morphology of PDSCs showed the spindle-shaped cells and grew directionally. FACS analysis, In addition, positive expression of visible cells were observed in mesenchymal stem cell biomarkers. PDLSCs cell viability was significantly decreased at high concentration in both 3 and 6 hours after TEGDMA treatment. We observed a decrease in the number of cells as well as a morphological change of PDLSCs. Antioxidative effect was notable since the death of PDLSC death was significantly inhibited compared to the control group at 24 and 48 hours after NACA treatment. Conclusion : Therefore, based on the results of this study, further research should be encouraged considering the development of clinical treatment methods using various antioxidants as well as regenerative engineering techniques utilizing periodontal ligament stem cells.

Effects of the Trunk Stabilization Exercise Using Swiss Ball on the Flexibility and Golf Performance in Beginner Golfer (스위스 볼을 이용한 체간 안정화 운동이 초보 골퍼의 유연성 및 골프 수행능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the swissball exercise in combination with core muscle in beginner golfer. In general, the swiss ball exercise was related in the core muscle ability. Methods: The experiment was conducted with a total of 10 beginner golfer, and they were dicide into two groups: comparison group(n=5) and experimental group(n=5). In this research, the subjects of the comparison group performed the general matte exercise three times a week, for four weeks. The subjects of the experimental group performed the swiss ball exercise in combination with core muscle three times a week, for four weeks. Use the 7-iron and driver were measured head speed and distance of the comparison group and the experimental group, respectively. The collected data were analyzed by using the paired t-test and ANCOVA Results: The results of this study were as follows: 1) Swiss ball exercise in combination with core muscle revealed the significant improvements after corresponding exercise in golf performance capability. 2) Mat exercise was seen less better than the swiss ball exercises. Conclusion: This results suggested that it was improved the golfer shot performance of beginner proposes to see the Swiss combined movement.

Effect of the Lumbar Range of Motion and Back Pain on Kinesiotaping of Erector Spinae Muscle (척주세움근의 키네시오 테이핑이 허리가동범위와 허리통증에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : To retestify about the changes of the range of motion and pain from kinesiotaping the erector spinae muscle. Method : Targeted the number of 30 people with low back pain and measured lumbar range of motion and pain before kinesiotaping on the erector spinae muscle. After that, the measured value were compared and analyzed. Result : First, before and after kinesiotaping, doing skin distraction test, the changes of the skin distance within each experiment group all statistically showed meaningful differences(p<0.05). Secondly, before and after kinesiotaping and testing pain threshold, it statistically showed meaningful differences(p<0.05). Conclusion : Both two groups showed that the change of the skin distance increased and the pain averagely decreased than before taping. Therefore, kinesiotaping is considered that it affected the low back, the range of motion and pain.

Reliability Study of Hip Range of Motion Measurement by Smartphone Inclinometer (스마트폰 경사계를 사용한 엉덩관절 가동범위의 측정 신뢰도 연구)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate inter-tester reliability and Intra-tester reliability about range of motion(ROM) measurement of hip joint with smartphone inclinometer. Method : Six observers performed goniometric and smartphone inclinometer measurements of various hip movements, including both active ROM for flexion, extension, external rotation, internal rotation. Measurements were performed in the right hip of fifty normal subjects. All measures were performed three times for evaluating reliability of observer. Inter- and intra-observer reliabilities were evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC). Result : The results were as follows, inter-observer reliability ICC value showed .948-.974 in smartphone inclinometer. And showed .781-.827 in goniometer. Intra-observer reliability ICC value showed .653-.992 in smartphone inclinometer. And showed .613-.854 in goniometer. Conclusion : Smartphone inclinometer are portable and widely available tools that are mostly reliable and valid for assessing active hip range of motion, with potential use when a goniometer is not available.
