We review the evolution of electrochemical studies of conducting polymers into the current state-of-the-art based primarily on our work. While conventional electrochemical experiments sufficed for the needs in the phase of studies of both electrochemical synthesis and characterization of conducting polymers, developments of various new experimental techniques have led to their introduction to this field for more refined information. As a result, the conventional electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance, impedance, and morphological as well as electrical characterization studies all made important contributions to a better understanding of the polymerization mechanisms and the conductive properties of these classes of polymers. From this review, we hereby expect that the electrochemical techniques will continue to play important roles in bringing this field to the practical applications such as nanoscale electronic devices.

An integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) system has been attracting attention due to its increased energy conversion efficiency and ability to treat various carbonaceous materials. IGCC is also expected to play an important role in the future supply of hydrogen energy. The use of a palladium-based membrane to separate the hydrogen from the synthesis gas stream has been intensively studied due to its exceptional hydrogen-separating capability. However, theoretical research on hydrogen separation is still an unfamiliar area in Korea. First-principle density functional theory was applied in this study to investigate the dissociative adsorption of hydrogen onto a palladium surface. The stability of hydrogen on the surface was theoretically evaluated with various adsorption configurations, partial pressures and temperatures. Further theoretical and experimental studies were also suggested to find a more hydrogen-selective material.

Faces play a key role in revealing the personalized attributes such as the identity, emotion, health condition, etc. Due to the importance of faces, computer-assisted face modeling and reconstruction have been actively studied both in computer vision and graphics community. Especially, face reconstruction and realistic face synthesis are well-grounded research problems and various approaches have been proposed during the last decade. In this paper, we discuss a wide range of existing work in face modeling by introducing their target applications, categorizing them upon their methodology and addressing their strength and weakness on performance. Finally, we introduce remaining research issues and suggest the future research direction in face modeling. We believe that this paper provides a high-level overview on face modeling techniques and helps understand the major research issues and the trends of methodology.

Recent surveys have shown that many early-type galaxies have signatures of ongoing or recent star formation (RSF). These RSF galaxies show blue integrated UV-optical colours that set them aside in the NUV integrated colour-magnitude relation. Among them, NGC 4150 has been observed using the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) on board the Hubble Space Telescope to inspect the galaxy with higher spatial resolution. In the WFC3 data, the galaxy reveals ubiquitous near-UV emission and remarkable dusty substructure. Our analysis shows this galaxy to lie in the near-UV green valley, and its pixel-by-pixel photometry exhibits a narrow range of UV-optical colours that are similar to those of nearby E+A (post-starburst) galaxies, and lie between those of M83 (an actively star-forming spiral) and the local quiescent early-type galaxy population. This work reaffirms our hypothesis that minor mergers play a significant role in the evolution of early-type galaxies at late epochs.

This paper describes computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems as strategic information systems for business which play an important role in accelerating the speed of business, and develops a measure showing a degree of business tendency to be CIM which enables the business to check on its present status as far as CIM is concerned. It is well known that the productivity of knowledge workers is lower than that of other workers. Nowadays, a great deal of effort goes into the productivity improvement of knowledge workers. In this respect, this paper also develops a quantitative model for the productivity of knowledge workers. Finally, this paper deals with following four steps which our small business should follow through its process of CIM: [Step 1] Using expert knowledge; [Step 2] Invention of technological information; [Step 3] Feedback of factory information to the management; and, [Step 4] Accelerating the speed of business.

A second-order response surface model is often used to approximate the relationship between a response factor and a set of explanatory factors. In this article, we deal with canonical analysis in response surface models. For the interpretation of the geometry of second-order response surface model, standard errors and confidence intervals for the eigenvalues of the second-order coefficient matrix play an important role. If the confidence interval for some eigenvalue includes 0 or the estimate of some eigenvalue is very small (near to 0) with respect to other eigenvalues, then we are able to delete the corresponding canonical factor. We propose a formulation of criterion which can be used to select canonical factors. This criterion is based on the IMSE(=Integrated Mean Squared Error). As a result of this method, we may approximately write the canonical factors as a set of some important explanatory factors.

In recent days, it has been significantly suggested that the promotion of sustainable forest management will play an important role in ameliorating atmospheric carbon. In this respect, we intend to investigate the dynamic impact of the global timber market on carbon flux of forest through net carbon release into the atmosphere. For this purpose, we integrated the TSM 2000 with TCM to simulate the projection of net carbon release of the global timber market over 90 years, starting 1995. As a result, we identified that the global timber market increases the carbon dioxide concentration about l.9% over next 90 years; hence results in a positive effect on global warming. For sensitivity analysis, we performed these procedures under three different timber demand growth scenarios.

This study explored the relationship of behavioral inhibition to narrative representations. Narratives of 96 four-year-old children were recorded and analyzed by the scoring system of Robinson, Holmberg and Klute(in press). Six clusters were found : Constrained(47.9%), Anxious/Restricted(23.9%), Emotional Integrated/Empathic(12.5%), Empathic/Avoidant(6.3%), Dysregulated(5.2%) and Anxious/Avoidant(4.2%) clusters. Behavioral inhibition was determined by observations using "Play with Unfamiliar Peers(Rubin et al., 2002)". Behavioral inhibition differences corresponded to the children's narrative representation clusters; The Anxious/Restricted Cluster was related to more and the Emotional Integrated/Empathic Cluster to less inhibited behavior. In context-specific differences, more inhibited behavior was related to Anxious/Avoidant Clusters during show-and-tess and to Empathic/Avoidant Clusters during card-sorting activities, respectively.

In order to achieve iterative design in early R&D period, a Distributed and Real-time Integrated Simulation System for avionics based on a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) method is proposed. The proposed simulation system includes driver, simulation model, monitor, flight visual model and aircraft external model.The effect of this simulation system in iterative design and system verification is testified by several use cases. The result shows that the simulation system, which can play an important role in iterative design and system verification, can reduce project costs and shorten the entire R&D period.

Procedures play a key role in ensuring safe operation at nuclear power plants (NPPs). Development and maintenance of a large number of procedures reflecting the best knowledge available in all relevant areas is a complex job. This paper introduces a newly developed methodology and the implemented software, called iExtractor, for the extraction of syntactic and semantic information from NPP procedures utilizing natural language processing (NLP)-based technologies. The steps of the iExtractor integrated with sets of rules and an ontology for NPPs are described in detail with examples. Case study results of the iExtractor applied to selected procedures of a U.S. commercial NPP are also introduced. It is shown that the iExtractor can provide overall comprehension of the analyzed procedures and indicate parts of procedures that need improvement. The rich information extracted from procedures could be further utilized as a basis for their enhanced management.
