  • Various export supporting systems of Korean government have affected Korean economy to be 13th in the world and over US$ seven hundred trillion in terms of the volume. Especially, export insurance system use to cover the commercial risks of Korean exporter. That is why Korean exporter have been able to do their best in exporting and expand overseas market actively. On the other hand, China who use to drive strong export expansion policy after joining WTO, have also very focused on export insurance system and developed its applicable items. From the point of view above, It is very meaningful study to compare the export insurance system between Korea and China. It is suggested that government funds for export insurance should be raised to give exporters more benefits. New kinds of export insurance items, also, should be developed to actively face international trade environment change.

  • This study explores the feasibility of activating private health insurance in Korea. The rationale for expanding private supplementary health insurance can be found in many cases of health care reforms in the European countries. Private health insurance can not only relieve the financial distress of the government health insurance programs but also offer the medical institutions incentives to improve the quality of medical care. In Korea there is no supplementary health insurance that reimburses for various kinds of diseases based on a well designed fee schedule. Recently, the cancer insurance is the best seller in the health related insurance market. As observed in the U. S. case, the cancer insurance which pays the predetermined amount (indemnity coverage) regardless of the medical charges incurred to the patient is limited in its coverage for the insured. To provide better protection against catastrophic diseases, the government should give insurance companies incentives to develop health insurance products that cover multiple diseases rather than a single disease. Consumers can hardly understand and compare complex insurance products. To resolve the information asymmetries, the government should publish a consumer report that compare various health insurance products in a user friendly way. In the long run, insurance companies will plan to sell health insurance products that charge risk related premium only when insurers accumulate the underwriting know-hows, the government shares data on various health statistics including claims and demographics, and risk pool for high risk patients is well established and subsidized by the government.

Main results of this research are as follows. First, there was no significant difference of mean value for efficiency between pre and post execution of capital market law. Second, difference of mean value for malmquist index between pre and post execution of capital market law was statistically significant at 5% level. This imply increase in productivity for post-execution of capital market law. Third, one of the important determinant for efficiency was the weight of life planner in both pre and post-execution of capital market law. The weight of life planner had significant positive effect on efficiency.

  • When an insurance company receives an application for life or health insurance, the company must evaluate the degree of risk the individual for insurance coverage presents before the company agrees to issue the policy. A medical factor is a physical or psychological characteristic that may increases a hazard. A financial factor is financial information that is taken into account by underwriter to determine if a person is applying for more than he/she reasonably needs or can afford. A personal factor is a lifestyle choice. There are several medical risk selection systems in Korean life insurance market. They are attending physician's statement, direct examination by insurance doctors, and paramedic examination. However there is some dissatisfaction of current system. It is possible that cooperation of part-time insurance doctors system may be one of useful system of medical risk selection. Improvement of medical risk selection system will be an important matter of profitability of insurance company and it will contribute to sound life insurance system.

  • The care market has a unique characteristic that cannot be understood only by pure consumerism. It is not simply constituted by the relationship between consumers and providers at a uni-dimensional level of consumerism logic; rather, it operates in the tripartite-dimensional relationship between the state, consumers and providers through the design and regulation of policies by the state(Evers 1994). The unit costs of long-term care insurance has a meaning as the signal of state for policy direction. This paper consists three contents. The first, it provides to examine the developing process and method of the unit costs of long-term care and to define the characteristics of the developing method of unit costs of the Korean Long term care Insurance. The second, it tried to evaluate the adequacy, validity, and equity of unit costs of care. The third, it proposed the policy direction and measures focused on state's role as price determinator and regulator of care market in that unit costs of care is very important factors for formation and operating of care market.

  • As the business structure of many industries changes under IT progress and internet economy, the customer information has emerged a key factor in setting up the management policy. The customer has come to replace the product as a central figure in business competition. The domestic life insurance market has also experienced the rapid structural changes in IT time. The competition in the insurance industry to maintain the existing membership and to attract the new members gets stronger under such a new business circumstance. Accordingly, it is necessary for an individual insurance company to develop a systematic marketing plan, based on the customer information, to be competitive in the market. Unlike other studies in which customer characteristics are neglected, this study attempts to utilize the customer information by applying the data mining technique, and then suggests an efficient marketing strategy that could prevail in the competitive business environment.

  • We study optimal consumption/investment and life insurance purchase rules for a wage earner with mortality risk under regime-switching financial market conditions, in a continuous time-horizon. We apply the Markov chain approximation method and suggest an efficient algorithm using parallel computing to solve the simultaneous Hamilton-Jaccobi-Bellman equations arising from the optimization problem. We provide numerical results under the utility functions of the constant relative risk aversion type, with which we illustrate the effects of regime switching on the optimal policies by comparing them with those in the absence of regime switching.
