It is well known that a discharge in oil is the source of various physical and chemical phenomena. One of them is ultra-sonic wave, and its detection is a useful method to the diagnosis of the transformer insulation condition. Conventionally, ultra-sonic waves are detected by Piezo-electric trans-ducer(PZT), and we use optical method that has many advantages. In this paper, we constructed a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with optical fiber and investigated the principle of operation. Test of the ultrasonic-detecting ability was performed for both of PZT and fiber-optic sensor. Discharge test arrangement is based on the needle-plane electrode system in oil and applied AC high voltage. Ultrasonic waves were detected and showed time-delay characteristics. We analyzed the data with frequency domain and wavelet transform.
In order to investigate possibility of CV cable diagnosis technique, residual insulation characteristics of .long - term serviced 0.6 kV CV Cable are examined by DC leakage current residual voltage tensile strength, cross1inking density and AC & impulse breakdown. Also effect of cable structure and water tree are reported
To reduce the effect of fault on power systems, like GIS and transformers, power system authorities are using various technologies to monitor and diagnose there facilities. Developing On-Line monitoring systems by using IT technology is main issue of nowadays for power system authorities. Among various monitoring and diagnosis technologies, gas sensing technologies can be most useful candidate because large power systems are using gas and oils for there insulation and analyzing density of gases that are included in the gas and oils for insulation purpose tell us what kind of reaction were arisen. In this paper, we describe on the gas sensing technology that are used for power systems monitoring and diagnosis.
Partial Discharge (PD) phenomena occurred by different nature of insulating defects has been regarded as a random process by which Phase Resolved Partial Discharge Analysis(PRPDA) has been proposed and then commercially accepted for the diagnosis of the power apparatus since more than three decades. Moreover, for the same purpose, a novel approach based on the Chaotic Analysis(CAPD) has been proposed since 2000, in which Partial Discharge(PD) phenomena is suggested to be considered as a deterministic dynamical process. In this work, for the diagnosis of Gas Insulated Transformer(GITr), four different types of specimen were fabricated as a model of the possible defects that might possibly cause its sudden failures such as turn to turn insulation, inter coil insulation, free moving particle and protrusion. For this purpose, these defects are introduced into the Gas Insulated Transformer(GITr) mock-up and experimental investigations have been carried out in order to analyze the related Partial Discharge(PD) patterns by means of both Phase Resolved Partial Discharge Analysis(PRPDA) and Chaotic Analysis(CAPD) respectively and then their comparisons are made systematically.

This paper dealt with the propagation characteristics of acoustic signals produced by partial discharges and the positioning of PD origin in insulation oil to develop insulation diagnostic techniques of oil-immerged transformers. Electrode systems such as needle to plane, plane to plane, and particle electrodes were fabricated to simulate some defects of power transformers. In addition, the frequency spectrum and propagation characteristics of acoustic signals with partial discharge (PD) in insulation oil were analyzed. Although there were differences based on the type of defect, the frequency spectra of the acoustic signals measured by wide and narrow band acoustic emission (AE) sensors were distributed in the range of 50 kHz-400 kHz. Therefore, a narrowband AE sensor is suitable for the diagnosis of oil-immersed power transformers. We could find the position of the PD source with an error margin of 10% in the experiments by calculating the position of the PD occurrence using the time difference of arrival measured by five AE sensors.
An experimental investigation has been performed in order to understand the $\Phi$-q-n characteristics related to the PD taking place from the various size of artificial defects inserted in epoxy insulation. In this purpose, PD has been detected simultaneously by two different methods such as commercialized PD detector(TE571) and our detection system using self designed CT type sensor. Under the presence of void in epoxy insulation, PD has been initiated at the voltages between 16kV and 20kV which are much lower than the dielectric strength of epoxy insulation (130kV/mm$\sim$l50kV/mm). And also it is revealed that $\Phi$-q-n characteristics have been observed to be dependent upon the size of the artificial defects. Throughout this work, the on site applicability of the self designed Sensor has also been proved by comparing the results with those from the commercialized PD detector. And more one, considerable basic data regarding the insulation, diagnosis could be provided to understand the presence of the voids possibly inserted into the epoxy insulation system of the power apparatus.
This paper dealt with a partial discharge (PD) detection method for insulation diagnosis in cast-resin transformers. To detect PD pulse, a planar-capacitive probe was designed and fabricated. The probe has no insulation problem and can be installed on cast-resin transformers even in operation since it does not connect with high voltage conductor. The PD measurement system consists of the capacitive probe, a coupling network of 100 [kHz] low-cutoff frequency, and an amplifier with a gain of 40 [dB] and a frequency bandwidth of 500 [Hz]~45 [MHz]. A plane-needle and a plane-plane electrode system were fabricated to simulate insulation defects in a cast-resin transformer. Sensitivity of the PD measurement system, which is evaluated by a standard calibrator was 0.35 [mV/pC] for positive and 0.45 [mV/pC] for negative, respectively. The PD detection by the capacitive probe was less sensitive than that by a coupling capacitor according to IEC 60270, but we could analyze the magnitude and the phase distribution of PD pulse.
This simulated partial discharge caused by 22.9[kV] power cable using XLPE(Peroxide Crosslinkable Polyethylene) insulation having the outside damage. Asone of the insulation diagnostic method a radiated electromagnetic waves were measured by an UHF method using a BiconiLog antenna(EMCO-3142) and a spectrum analyzer used to measure EMl, EMC. From results of this study, It was confirmed that discharge progress were possible to be estimated by the proposed method.
