  • In this study, the output 380V direct current DC-DC converter for low-voltage direct current(LVDC) distribution was designed in three types, and the voltage and current characteristics of the three types of DC-DC converter were compared and analyzed through simulation. When the converter was configured using a parallel structure with the power metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor and two current suppression insulated-gate bipolar transistors(IGBTs), the time when the output voltage was stabilized at DC 380V was relatively short with 9ms and the range of output current changes was also between 44.8A and 50.2A, indicating that the width of change was much smaller and the effect of current suppression was greater compared to when IGBT was not applied(68~83A). These results suggest that the proposed DC-DC converter for LVDC distribution is likely to be applied to smart grid construction.

  • This paper presents the robust design of each component used in the development of an induction bolt heating system for dismantling the high-temperature high-pressure casing heating bolts of turbines in power plants. The induction bolt heating system comprises seven assemblies, namely AC breaker, AC filter, inverter, transformer, work coil, cable, and CT/PT. For each of these assemblies, the various failure modes are identified by the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) method, and the causes and effects of these failure modes are presented. In addition, the risk priority numbers are deduced for the individual parts. To ensure robust design, the insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), switched-mode power supply (SMPS), C/T (adjusting current), capacitor, and coupling are selected. The IGBT is changed to a field-effect transistor (FET) to enhance the voltage applied to the induction heating system, and a dual-safety device is added to the SMPS. For C/T (adjusting current), the turns ratio is adjusted to ensure an appropriate amount of induced current. The capacitor is replaced by a product with heat resistance and durability; further, coupling with a water-resistant structure is improved such that the connecting parts are not easily destroyed. The ground connection is chosen for management priority.

  • This paper presents a study on the accuracy position Controller design for the Composite Smoke Bomb Rotational driving system using a BLDC servo motor. Function of Smoke Bomb is blind in the enermy's sight so that need to high response. The BLDC servo motor controller was designed with DSP(TMS320VC33), IGBT(Insulated Gate Bipolar. Transistor), IGBT gate driver and CPLD(EPM7128). This paper implements those control with vector control and MIN-MAX PWM. Vector control requires information about rotor positions, a resolver should be used to achieve that. The main controller is implemented with a TMS320VC33 high performance floating-point DSP(Digital Signal Process) and PWM Generator is embodied using EPM7128.

  • This paper presents the new power dissipation model of individual switching device in a high-level modular multilevel converter (MMC), which can be mostly used in voltage sourced converter (VSC) based high-voltage direct current (HVDC) system and flexible AC transmission system (FACTS). Also, the voltage balancing method based on sorting algorithm is newly proposed to advance the MMC functionalities by effectively adjusting switching variations of the sub-module (SM). The proposed power dissipation model does not fully calculate the average power dissipation for numerous switching devices in an arm module. Instead, it estimates the power dissipation of every switching element based on the inherent operational principle of SM in MMC. In other words, the power dissipation is computed in every single switching event by using the polynomial curve fitting model with minimum computational efforts and high accuracy, which are required to manage the large number of SMs. After estimating the value of power dissipation, the thermal condition of every switching element is considered in the case of external disturbance. Then, the arm modeling for high-level MMC and its control scheme is implemented with the electromagnetic transient simulation program. Finally, the case study for applying to the MMC based HVDC system is carried out to select the appropriate insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) module in a steady-state, as well as to estimate the proper thermal condition of every switching element in a transient state.

  • AC servo motor drives, Fara DS series, proposed in this paper can be effectively used in robots, CNC machine tools, and FA system with AC servo motors as actuators. The inverter of the AC servo drive consists of IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) which have high switching frequency. Noises and vibrations generated in variable speed control of AC servo motors can be greatly reduced due to their high switching frequencies. In the developed servo drive, maximum torque is always generated in the whole speed range by compensating phase shift, which results from the nonlinearies of the AC servo motor during abrupt acceleration and deceleration. Abundant protection functions are provided to prevent abnormal state of the servo motor, and furthermore diverse user options are considered provided for the effective application. The proposed AC servo motor drive is designed to minimize velocity variation with respect to external load, supply voltage, environmental temperature, and humidity, so can be widely used in the fields of factory automation including robots and CNC msachine tools.

  • This paper deals with the performance analysis of static compensator (STATCOM) based voltage regulator for selfexcited induction generators (SEIGs) supplying balanced/unbalanced and linear/ non-linear loads. In practice, most of the loads are linear. But the presence of non-linear loads in some applications injects harmonics into the generating system. Because an SEIG is a weak isolated system, these harmonics have a great effect on its performance. Additionally, SEIG's offer poor voltage regulation and require an adjustable reactive power source to maintain a constant terminal voltage under a varying load. A three-phase insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) based current controlled voltage source inverter (CC- VSI) known as STATCOM is used for harmonic elimination. It also provides the required reactive power an SEIG needs to maintain a constant terminal voltage under varying loads. A dynamic model of an SEIG-STATCOM system with the ability to simulate varying loads has been developed using a stationary d-q axes reference frame. This enables us to predict the behavior of the system under transient conditions. The simulated results show that by using a STATCOM based voltage regulator the SEIG terminal voltage can be maintained constant and free from harmonics under linear/non linear and balanced/unbalanced loads.

  • This paper presents a voltage and frequency controller (VFC) for a 4-wire stand-alone wind energy conversion system (WECS) employing an asynchronous generator. The proposed VF con-troller consists of a three leg IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Junction Transistor) based voltage source converter and a battery at its DC bus. The neutral terminal for the consumer loads is created using a T-connected transformer, which consists of only two single phase transformers. The control algorithm of the VF controller is developed for the bidirectional flow capability of the active power and reactive power control by which it controls the WECS voltage and frequency under different dynamic conditions, such as varying consumer loads and varying wind speeds. The WECS is modeled and simulated in MATLAB using Simulink and PSB toolboxes. Extensive results are presented to demonstrate the capability of the VF controller as a harmonic eliminator, a load balancer, a neutral current compensator as well as a voltage and frequency controller.

  • This paper presents an equivalent circuit model of a LIPB (Li-Ion Polymer battery) for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). The proposed equivalent circuit can be used to predict the charging/discharging characteristics in time domain as well as the impedance characteristic analysis in frequency domain. Based on these features, a one-cell model is established as a function of Depth of Discharge (DoD), and a 48-cell model for a battery pack was also established. It was confirmed by experiment that the proposed model predict the discharging and impedance (AC) characteristics quite accurately at different constant current levels. To check the usefulness of the proposed circuit, the model was used to simulate a motor driving circuit with an Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) inverter and Brushless DC (BLDC) motor, and it is confirmed that the model can calculate the battery voltage fluctuation in time domain at different DoDs.

  • A new small scaling Lateral Trench Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (SSLTIGBT) was proposed to improve the characteristics of the device. The entire electrode of the LTIGBT was replaced with a trench-type electrode. The LTIGBT was designed so that the width of device was no more than 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The latch-up current densities were improved by 4.5 and 7.6 times, respectively, compared to those of the same sized conventional LTIGBT arid the conventional LTIGBT which has the width of 17 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The enhanced latch-up capability of the SSLTIGBT was obtained due to the fact that the hole current in the device reaches the cathode via the p+ cathode layer underneath the n+ cathode layer, directly. The forward blocking voltage of the SSLTIGBT was 125 V. At the same size, those of the conventional LTIGBT and the conventional LTIGBT with the width of 17 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were 65 V and 105 V, respectively. Because the proposed device was constructed of trench-type electrodes, the electric field In the device were crowded to trench oxide. Thus, the punch through breakdown of LTEIGBT occurred late.
