This study was to investigate the needs for the community in the elderly institution and the related factors. The raw data, collected in 2000, from the Study for the Silver Industry in Ulsan were used for the analysis. The sample consisted of 292 elderly aged 65 and over living in Ulsan, and the purpose was accomplished using frequencies, percentages, and chi-squared test with cross-tabulations. The results indicated that the elderly tends to have negative responses to the discriminations by health conditions and sharing the public spaces with neighbors. However it was more likely that the elderly wants to have separate public spaces and facilities by gender. They prefer private residential units rather than public spaces for the meals, baths, and receptions. It was also found that gender, with or without spouse, education level, and economic condition of the elderly have significant effects on the needs for the community in the elderly housing.

This study suggests the general support center with comprehensive services for the elderly. In general, the modifications of the elderly housing have a direct influence on the "Quality of life" and "Aging in place" for the elderly. But until now, the elderly housing modification has been carried out separately on the elderly welfare category. It is very inefficient and inconvenient for the elderly. Therefore, it is necessary to have a comprehensive organization that includes the implementation of modifications. To provide reasons for this insistence, this study analyzed the previous research, legal system guidelines, and others related things. And it researched the perception of the comprehensive institution and the need for housing modification through the recognition survey of the elderly and the early elderly. The study found that the current domestic legal system does not have an integrated system to carry out the entire process of applying and implementing the elderly housing modification. On the other hand, the results of the survey showed that the elderly hoped to introduce a comprehensive and user-friendly institution for housing modification.

Type 1 is an optimistic group which expects modernized institutions. This group focuses on social relationships enjoying a variety of cultural life. Type 2 is a positive group which pursues independence. They are open-minded about the use of the institution and are not ashamed of the life in the institution. Major findings are as follows: First, the motivation to participate in leisure programs on the part of the institutionalized elderly tended to be more external than internal. Second, regression analysis indicated that the main internal factors that affected participation were health condition, interaction with roommate, gender. education level, and interaction with institution's staff. The major external factors that affected the participation were health condition, interaction with colleagues, gender, and education level. The present study was conducted to devlop and appropriate retirement home model for the elderly in terms of clothing and textiles; nutrition, health, and foodservice; housing and environment; and psychological adaptation. Specifically, the purposes of the study were: 1) to provide basic guidelines for clothing by comparing the clothing behavior of the elderly living in the retirement home and those living in their own homes with family, 2) to provide basic guidelines for balanced diet and effective foodservice, 3) to develop an ideal life space and facilities, and 4) to assess the psychological characteristics of the elderly. Questionnaires, observation, experimental method, and survey of literature were used for the study. Clothing behavior showed that the elderly were much concerned about clothing, and they preferred comfortable as well as fashionable designs. The elderly in the retirement homes complained of a lack of quantity and variety in clothing. They preferred natural fiber rather than blended fabrics. Flame resistance, thermal insulation, and flexibility of textile fabrics were found to be prime considerations in manufacturing and selecting clothing materials for the elderly. The health status of the surveyed elderly was generally good, but some poor eating habits were observed. Dietary nutrients intakes were generally sufficient, but several nutrients intakes were insufficient. The level of equipment in the kitchens of the institutions was low. Furthermore, the employment rate of dietitians in institutional settings was extremely low. This resulted in a lack of systematic foodservice management. Residents in the institution were generally satisfied with present life space and facilities but this was mainly because of abandonment, adaptation, and past experience. Optimal allocation of residents per bedroom and an adequate design for storage, bathroom, utility room, and dining room were recommended. The comparison of psychological status of the elderly living at home was more stable than those living in an institution. The emotional state of the elderly living in the institution was characterized by loneliness; they did not have close interpersonal relationships or future plans. An appropriate model for the elderly was developed on the basis of these findings.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the antioxidant level, serum cholesterol and skin ${\beta}$-carotene, of female elderly who had been living more then 10 months in institutions which offered either vegetarian or non vegetarian diet. Methods: Total of 110 female elderly, 56 from institution serving vegetarian diet and 54 from nonvegetarian diet, were recruited from institutions located in S and N city in Korea. ${\beta}$-carotene level was measured on their palm using Pharmanex Biophotonic Scanner and annual health evaluation data was utilized for the analysis of serum cholesterol. Results: The subjects on a vegetarian diet had a significantly higher level of phosphorus, carotene, and folic acid. The elderly who were living in an institution offering a vegetarian diet had a lower level of serum cholesterol and higher level of skin ${\beta}$-carotene, compared to those living in an institution offering a non-vegetarian diet. Conclusion: This study reveals that a vegetarian diet is beneficial in increasing skin ${\beta}$-carotene level, decreasing serum total cholesterol level. The skin ${\beta}$-carotene measurement appear valuable as a bio-marker of antioxidant intake. Further study on antioxidant food and effective serving strategy for elderly are recommended.

The media report articles were collected from the news big data analysis system called 'BIG KINDS' for about 15 years from July 2008 when the Long-Term Care Insurance for the Elderly took effect, to February 28th 2022. During this period of time, total 2,627 articles were collected under keywords like 'elderly care+fraudulent claims' and 'long-term care+fraudulent claims', and among them, total 946 articles were selected after excluding overlapped articles. In the results of the text mining analysis in this study, first, the top 10 keywords mentioned in the highest frequency in every section(July 1st 2008-February 28th 2022) were shown in the order of long-term care institution for the elderly, fraudulent claims, National Health Insurance Service, Long-Term Care Insurance for the Elderly, long-term care benefits(expenses), elderly care facilities, The Ministry of Health & Welfare, the elderly, report, and reward(payment). Third, the analysis of TF-IDF was similar to the results of the frequency analysis while the rankings of report, reward(payment), and increase moved up. Based on such results of the analysis above, this study presented the future direction for the prevention of fraudulent claims of long-term care institutions for the elderly.
