  • There are still problems have to solve for safety of driving comparing to the upgraded convenience of advanced vehicle. Most traffic accident is by uncareful driving cause of interface operations which are directive reasons of it in controlling the complicate multimedia device. According to interesting in smart automobile, various approaches for safe driving have been studied. The current multimedia interface embedded in vehicle is lacking the safety due to loss the sense and operation capacity by instantaneous view movement. In this paper, we propose a safe dialing system for safe driving to control dial and search dictionary by hand-gesture. The proposed system improved the user convenience and safety in automobile operation using intuitive gesture and TTS(Text to Speech).

  • The Kwinana Shoreline Fumigation Experiment (KSFE) took place at Fremantle, WA, Australia between January 23 and February 8, 1995. The CSIRO DAR LIDAR measured plume sections from near the Kwinana Power Station (KPS) stacks to up to about 5 km downstream. It also measured boundary layer aerosols and the structure of the boundary layer on some occasions. Both stages A and C of KPS were used as tracers at different times. The heart of the LIDAR system is a Neodymium-doped Yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser operating at a fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm, with harmonics of 532 nm and 355 nm. For these experiments the third harmonic was used because the UV wavelength at 355 nm is eye safe beyond about 50 m. The laser fires a pulse of light 6 ns in duration (about 1.8 m long) and with an energy (at the third harmonic) of about 70 mJ. This pulse subsequently scattered and absorbed by both air molecules and particles in the atmosphere. A small fraction of the laser beam is scattered back to the LIDAR, collected by a telescope and detected by a photo-multiplier tube. The intensity of the signal as a function of time is a measure of the particle concentration as a function of distance along the line of the laser shot. The smoke plume was clearly identifiable in the scans both before and after fumigation in the thermal internal boundary layer (TIBL). Both power station plumes were detected. Over the 9 days of operation, 1,568 plumes scans (214 series) were performed. Essentially all of these will provide instantaneous plume heights and widths, and there are many periods of continuous operation over several hours when it should be possible to compile hourly average plume statistics as well. The results of four days LIDAR observations of the dispersion of smoke plume in the TIBL at a coastal site are presented for the case of stages A and C.

  • A ship-to-ship (STS) lightering operation takes place in order to transfer cargo (e.g. crude oil or petroleum products) between an ocean-going ship and a service ship alongside it. Instrumental measurements to accurately determine the relative speeds and distances during the approach between the vessels would benefit the operational safety and efficiency. A velocity information GPS (VI-GPS) system, which uses the instantaneous velocity measures from carrier-phase Doppler measurement, has been applied in a field observation onboard a service ship (Aframax tanker) approaching a ship-to-be-lightered (VLCC) in open waters. This article proposes to apply VI-GPS as the input sensor to a guidance and decision-support system aiming to provide accurate velocity information to the officer in charge of an STS operation. A method for precise velocity measurement using VI-GPS was described and the measurement results were compared each other with the results of Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) and VI-GPS that showed the concept of a guidance and decision-support system applying VI-GPS with the field test results during STS operations. Also, it turned out that VI-GPS has sufficient accuracy to serve as an input sensor from the field test results.

  • This paper proposes a composition method of mosaic image from the compressed MPEG-2 video stream, in which the displacement between successive frames according to the camera operation is estimated directly from the information involved in the stream. In the proposed method. the approximated optical flow is constructed from motion vectors of macro blocks, and it is used to determine the parameters of the displacements according to the camera operation associated with pan and tilt. The extracted parameters are used to determine the geometric transform of successive video frames in order to construct a mosaic image. The construction of mosaic uses several blending techniques including the one proposed by Nichols in which an analytic weight is used to determine pixel values. Through the experiment, the blending technique based on analytic weights was superior to the others such as averaging and median-based techniques. It provided more smooth changes in background and made use of instantaneous frame information to construct a mosaic. The mosaic in the paper puts the emphasis on the reduction of computation because it is constructed from the motion vectors included in the compressed video without decoding and recalculating exact optical flows. The constructed mosaic can be used in the retrieval of the compressed video as the representative frame of a shot.

  • This study introduces a software for real-time assessment of combustion stability for utility gas turbines. The software was written with LabView, and implemented the time-domain kurtosis as a parameter to proactively access the instantaneous combustion stability during operation of the industrial gas turbine. The simple time-domain assessment algorithm incorporated in the software is advantageous over conventional frequency-domain signal processing of dynamic pressure signal since it reduces the computational cost, thereby making the algorithm more appropriate for real-time monitoring of combustion stability. Benchmark data obtained from a model gas turbine combustor were used for the reproducibility test of the software. The assessment obtained from the software agreed well with previously published results, indicating that incorporation of the software could enhance the performance of systems monitoring the combustion stability for gas turbines during power generation.

  • The major causes of electrical fire in low-voltage distribution lines are classified into short-circuit fault, overload fault, electric leakage, and electric contact failure. The special principal factor of the fire is electric arc or spark accompanied with such electric faults. This paper studies the development of an electric fire prevention system with detection and alarm of that in case of parallel arc fault occurrence in low-voltage distribution lines. The proposed system is designed on algorithm sensing the instantaneous voltage drop of line voltage at arc fault occurrence. The proposed detector has characteristics of high-speed operation responsibility and superior system reliability from composition using a large number of semiconductor devices. A new sensing control method that shows the detection of parallel arc fault is sensed to ripple voltage drop through a diode bridge full-wave rectifier at electrical accident occurrence. Some experimental tests of the proposed system also confirm the practicality and validity of the analytical results.

  • Power interruption is a phenomenon that no voltage is displayed over a short time or long time. Most devices will not operate normally when the supply voltage is low or does not exist. However, the device can also be operated with a different power which is ensured by a separate power generation. Recently, power interruption has been reduced gradually by the improvement of electricity quality, its duration also has been very short. Induction motors are widely used for the pumping in the water and sewage facilities and power plant applications. The pump is used as a machine for moving the fluid in the high place from a low location. So pump equipment always have a potential energy. If a momentary interruption occurs, the potential energy of the pump is reversed as that of water turbine and motor is operated as generator. This study is an analysis for the voltage variation, current, torque and power flow by the generating operation of the induction motor before and after the change of momentary interruption.

  • This paper describes an implementation of a single phase PWM ac/dc converter whose control scheme can be directly applied to the rectification of ac traction system. Power circuit using self-commutated switching devices(GTO) provides input power factor correction with dc voltage regulation. Effective compensation of load variations and line disturbance can be accomplished by real time instantaneous control of ac input current and dc link voltage using 32 bit floating point DSP. Parallel operation of two converters reduces the input line current ripple. Experimental results of the two parallel converter system are shown in the 20KW range for the verification of the system.

  • A new simple control method for active power filter, which can realize the complete compensation of harmonics is proposed. In the proposed scheme, a model-based digital current control strategy is presented. The proposed control system is designed and implemented in a form referred to as internal model control structure. This method provides a convenient way for parameterizing the controller in term of the nominal system model, including time-delays. As a result, the resulting controller parameters are directly set based on the power circuit parameters, which make tuning of the controllers straightforward task. In the proposed control algorithm, overshoots and oscillations due to the computation time delay is prevented by explicit incorporating of the delay in the controller transfer function. In addition, a new compensating current reference generator employing resonance model implemented by a DSP(Digital Signal Processor) is introduced. Resonance model has an infinite gain at resonant frequency, and it exhibits a band-pass filter. Consequently, the difference between the instantaneous load current and the output of this model is the current reference signal for the harmonic compensation.

  • The Auto-synchronizer is essential equipment for synchronizing a generator to the power system. It is performing that measurement of the magnitude, frequency and phase of the voltage signal of the power system and generator. It is important to select the appropriate measurement algorithm for preventing various problem such as mechanical stress and Electrical problem. Teager Energy Operator(TEO) and Discrete separation algorithm(DESA) is measurable the instantaneous parameters of a sine wave using 5 samples and can be measured at a fast and with a simple operation. Therefore it has many advantages in measuring the parameters. In this paper, it confirmed measurement results using matlab simulations when there are synchronized in order of frequency, magnitude. Also it presented methods using digital filters and sample intervals to improve accuracy.
