  • A nonlinear speed control of a PMSM using a sequential parameter auto-tuning algorithm for servo equipments is presented. The nonlinear control scheme gives an undesirable output performance under the mismatch of the system parameters and load conditions. Recently, to improve the performance, an adaptive linearization scheme, a sliding mode control and an observer-based technique have been reported. Although a good performance can be obtained, the performance is not satisfactory any more under specific conditions such as a large inertia variation, a fast speed transient or an increased sampling time. The simultaneous estimation of principal parameters giving a direct influence on speed dynamics is generally not simple. To overcome this problem, a a sequential parameter auto-tuning algorithm at start-up is proposed, where dominant parameters are estimated in a prescribed regular sequence based on the method that one parameter is estimated during each interval. The proposed scheme is implemented on a PMSM using DSP TMS320C31 and the effectiveness is verified through simulations and experiments.

  • This paper proposed a new control method which is capable of controlling circulating current considering current capacity of switching device. In the unbalanced voltage conditions, active power and reactive power have double line frequency. Thus, in order to provide active power without ripple, it is necessary to inject the negative sequence current components. However, when the negative current components is injected, it increases the total current flowing in the Arm, and in the Sub-module(SM) the current more than rated is impressed, which leads to destroy the system. Also, in impressing the circulating current reference of each arm, conventional control method impressed applicable $i_{dck}/3$ in the case of balanced voltage conditions. In the case of unbalanced conditions, as arm circulating current of three phase show difference due to the power impressed to each arm, reference of each arm is not identical. In this study, in the case of unbalanced voltage, within permitted current, the control method to decrease the ripple of active power is proposed, through circulating current control and current limitations. This control method has the advantage that calculates the maximum active power possible to generate capacity and impressed the current reference for that much. Also, in impressing circulating current reference, a new control method proposes to impress the reference from calculating active power of each phase. The proposed control method is verified through the simulation results, using the PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • As the penetration of distributed generation systems is recently high, there have been metering errors, trips of protective devices in KEPCO distribution systems including an occurrence of false fault-indicator in distribution automation system. The cause of malfunctions was the reverse-power-flow phenomenon due to transformer wiring types. By the effect of the reverse-power-flow, each of phase's fundamental currents was added by about 3 times on the neutral line. A new method based on the analysis of the reverse-power-flow is proposed in this paper. Fault currents on each section were analyzed by the proposed method, and the effect of types of transformer wiring was examined experimentally. In order to reduce the malfunctions due to the reverse-power-flow, controlling the zero-sequence impedance of transformer was designed and verified by using PSCAD/EMTDC software.

  • In the recent parking assistant systems, finding out the distance to the object behind a car is often performed by the range sensors such as ultrasonic sensors, radars. However, the installation of additional sensors on the used vehicle could be difficult and require extra cost. On the other hand, the motion stereo technique that extracts distance information using only an image sensor was also proposed. However, In the stereo rectification step, the motion stereo requires good features and exacts matching result. In this paper, we propose a fast algorithm that extracts the accurate distance information for the parallel parking situation using the consecutive images that is acquired by a rear-view camera. The proposed algorithm uses the quadrangle transform of the image, the horizontal line integral projection, and the blocking-based correlation measurement. In the experiment with the magna parallel test sequence, the result shows that the line-accurate distance measurement with the image sequence from the rear-view camera is possible.

  • Aeronautical lights, which are internationally standardized sequence of colors and placements, are aeronautic safety devices that provide visual information to pilots by continuously adjusting their light intensity to appropriate level. In this paper, we consider the development testing for in pavement LED aeronautical light system such as taxiway centerline, stop line and temporary stop line. The test results of LED sourced lights have shown a drastic improvement in power consumption levels and cost efficiency compared to their halogen sourced counterparts The LED light used only 42.7% as much power as their halogen sourced counterparts. Taking installation costs into account, LED will cost only 58% of its halogen counterparts. These results suggest that developing the LED sourced aeronautical light would result in globally competitive products thar guarantees satisfaction to their consumers, and that both cost effective and energy efficient.

  • The license for Kori-1, the first commercial reactor in Busan, Korea, was terminated in June 2017; therefore, preparations are being made for its decommissioning. Because the radioactivity of Bio-shield varies greatly throughout the structure, the doses received by the workers depend on the location, order, and duration of dismantling operations. Thus, a model for evaluating the worker external dose during the dismantling of the Kori-1 bio-shield was developed, and work scenarios for dose assessment were designed. The Dose evaluation code VISIPLAN was used for dose assessment. The dose rate around the bio-shield was evaluated and the level of exposure to the operator was evaluated according to the work scenario. The maximum annual external dose was calculated as 746.86 mSv for a diamond wire saw operator under dry cutting conditions, indicating that appropriate protective measures, such as changing dismantling sequence, remote monitoring, shield installation, and adjustment of work team are necessary for the safe dismantling of the bio-shield. Through these protective measures, it was found that the worker's dose could be below the dose limit.

  • Liquid sloshing occurs when a partially filled liquid tank is subjected to undesirable external forces or acceleration/deceleration for positioning control. Installation of baffles is still the most popular way to suppress the sloshing, but recent successes of input shaping in reducing structural vibrations may give a possible alternative. We aim at investigating the applicability of input shaping to sloshing suppression by numerically solving fluid motions in a rectangular tank. The tank is partially filled with water and it is suddenly put into a sequence of horizontal motions of acceleration and constant speed. The flow is assumed to be two-dimensional, incompressible, and in viscid, and a VOF two-phase model is used to capture the free surface. Results show that the sloshing can be successfully suppressed by shaping the input, i.e., the velocity or acceleration profile of tank. Three different input shapers (ZII, ZVD, and two-mode convolved ZV shapers) are tested and compared in this study Among them, the convolved ZV shaper shows a best performance to eliminate the sloshing almost completely.

  • The reactor head structure assembly(RHSA) is the structure located on the reactor assembly. The purpose of the assembly is providing interface location for cables, preventing pipe whips, prohibiting instruments from becoming missiles, and restraining CEDMs' horizontal motion. On the RHSA, reactor disconnect panels(RDP) are installed. The installation location of RDP is to be decided to minimize the geometric interface with other components. Since the neighborhood of RHSA is crowded due to many connectors and cables, it is necessary to find the good design of RHSA to make an intricate situation attenuated and the required function maintained. The geometric shape and overall configuration of RHSA are determined by axiomatic design approach. The FRs of RHSA are specified and the corresponding DPs are found to satisfy FRs in sequence. The finite element analysis is carried out based on the result of the axiomatic design to evaluate the structural integrity.

  • This paper is written for the development and application of boiler furnace pressure control algorithm and distributed control system of coal-fired power plant by the steps of design, coding, simulation test, site installation and site commissioning test. The control algorithms were designed in the shape of cascade control for two parts of furnace pressure control and induced draft fan pitch blade by standard function blocks. This control algorithms were coded to the control programs of distributed control systems. The simulator for coal-fired power plant was used in the test step and automatic control, sequence control and emergency stop tests were performed successfully like the tests of the actual power plant. The reliability was obtained enough to be installed at the actual power plant and all of distributed control systems had been installed at power plant and all signals were connected mutually. Tests for reliability and safety of plant operation were completed successfully and power plant is being operated commercially. It is expected that the project result will contribute to the safe operation of domestic new and retrofit power plants, the self-reliance of coal-fired power plant control technique and overseas business for power plant.

  • There have been many efforts to prevent accidents in Korea for the last 25 years. Many measures in the area of hardware sciences including electrical, mechanical, chemical engineering, etc. were applied to eliminate or at least reduce causes of accidents. However, the accidents rate has not been reduced much despite of these measures. This research aimed to find real causes of these accidents and to suggest a comprehensive model that can mainly be applied to industrial fields to find potential or existence of human errors during the pre-installation stage or after an accident. We tried to explain sequences of an operator's information process that might cause human errors on one hand, and life cycle stages of facilities involved when human errors occur on the other hand. With this comprehensive model presented in this research, one can follow up the sequence of human errors caused by operators. Further, errors made at the design stage which could be a main cause of accidents can be tracked. It is recommended that this comprehensive model should be used to prevent human errors in industrial fields since safety personnel can easily find out errors or error potentials through the life cycle stages of manmachine facilities.
