Integrated Simulations of a Floating Crane Installation Vessel with DP systems in Waves

  • The nonlinear time-domain analysis method was implemented to carry out a series of integrated simulations for a deep-water crane vessel system composed of four sub components, including a floating vessel, lifted equipment, hoisting cable and dynamic positioning (hereinafter DP) system. The analysis of the coupled dynamics consists of the crane vessel and equipment connected using the crane wire, and the DP is modeled according to the wind, wave and current conditions. The DP systems were numerically implemented using a classical PD feedback controller, and various simulations of the deepwater installation were conducted using different conditions in order to evaluate the global performance of the floating crane vessel combined with the DP system.

  • This paper presents the correlation on the contamination degree and weather conditions using the multiple regression of the statistic method. The cotamination is a significant factor in the insulation system. The major factor is natural contamination, and the most is the salt. The salt contamination is occured by the weather conditions. The weather contaminations are wind, precipitation, temperature, relative humidity, etc. The effects of those are different, and the correlation is showed numerically by using the multiple regression method of the statistic method. With this, the estimation of the equivalent salt deposit density(ESDD) becomes possible by the changes of the weather conditions.

  • In recent the superior economic benefits and the convenience of installation increased the use of geosynthetics, especially geogrids with the effects of high tensile strength. In this study, various tests were conducted to determine the physical and chemical properties of geogrids which contains durability under various critical conditions, creep behavior and the stability for installation damage in fields. With analysis of test results, the partial and total safety factors were determined and presented the long term design strength of flexible geogrids.

  • This paper gives a method for the minimization of the fuel cost by optimal generation. Derivation of the sensitivity of system loss by optimization technique is introduced and the loss sensitivities are substituted into the optimality conditions to obtain the minimized fuel cost.

  • The conventional photovoltaic(PV) systems are designed the installation angle for maximizing power output by considering a geographical characteristics, weather and climate conditions such as the solar radiation and atmosphere temperature. However, the PV generators must be designed to deal with the extreme situations like typhoons, earthquakes because PV systems are exposed to the ambient conditions and external shock due to condition of PV location. Especially, the wind has relatively higher influence on the design of PV systems, in this paper we proposed the method of determining the optimal nominal dimension of the facilities, which can withstand the maximum wind pressure. By using the proposed method, we determined the optimal installation angle for the aspect stability of PV facilities and amount of power output. Moreover, we analyzed the monthly amount of power for each installation angle of PV systems, and proposed the changing strategy of installation angle by determining the optimal angle to produce maximum power for each period.

  • This paper presented a actual conditions on a false-tripping of ELB(Earth Leakage Breakers) and an assessment of the harmonics due to non-linear electronic equipment such as personal computers, rectifier, electric furnace and test equipments in factory electrical installation. Actual conditions on a failure of ELB were surveyed and analyzed by making up a question to safety managers of factory electrical installation. Also, power quality measurements such as harmonic currents, voltage and current waveform and current imbalance were made at various factory electrical installation where nuisance tripping of ELB is often occurred. The results of this study can be used in making decisions regarding cause of ELB trip and operating and tripping characteristics test of ELB when subjected to distorted current waveform.

  • In this paper, guard lamps at three areas have been investigated to understand the actual conditions of the electric shock hazard of the guard lamps. Upon the basis of the obtained data, the actual conditions of the guard lamps were precisely analyzed in terms of the electric shock hazard. As a result of the investigation, it was turned out that many guard lamps were not installed in organized ways due to the lack of legal regulations, resulting in the increase of electric shock hazard. Therefore, it is necessary, from a point of electric shock protection view, to establish the regulations of equipment installation and management, which can be specifically applied to guard lamps.

  • In this study, an air cleaner is considered to improve comfort, safety, and health of automobile passengers. The performance and installation conditions of the air cleaner have been studied to investigate their effects on the air quality in the cabin room using numerical analysis. A five-passenger sedan and a seven-passenger minivan that have comparatively large indoor volume have been considered. The distributions of the local mean age and the volume averaged age of indoor air are calculated according to the variation of the placement and the air flow of the air cleaner. In addition, a decrease of contamination concentration, especially VOCs(volatile organic compounds), by the air cleaner is numerically analyzed with time-accurate unsteady calculation to quantify the effect of the air cleaner on the indoor air quality. As a result, the effective installation and operation conditions of the air cleaner for the automobile cabin room could be suggested.

  • This paper presents the establishment of optimum design conditions and economic evaluation for solar hot water system. The aim of this study is to present thermal performance of solar heating systems and to determine their performance as a function of collector size, storage capacity, tilting of collector and other factors. By analyzing its performance under the various conditions, optimum design of solar heating system can be obtained. System performance are obtained monthly and yearly basis respectively. At the same time the economics of various systems are evaluated. For the computer simulation Mokpo, Kangnung, Chupungnyong and Seoul are selected for particular installation places. As a result, the optimal design condition of solar heating system considering the following factors such as installation angle of collector, capacity of storage tank, collector size in each place can be obtained as follows; (1) Installation angle of collector Tilt = lattitude (2) Capacity of storage tank Solar domestic hot water system : $45\;1/m^2$ Multifamily solar domestic hot water system : $35\;1/m^2$ (3) Collector size i) Solar domestic hot water system Seoul & Chupyungyong area : $11.52\;m^2$ Mokpo area : $8.64\;m^2$ ii) Multifamily solar domestic hot water system Seoul, Chupyungyong & Mokpo area : $345.6\;m^2$ Kangnung area : $259.2\;m^2$

  • The demand on free-form buildings is gradually increasing, but there are several problems such as increased cost and construction duration, and decreased constructability at the construction phase upon construction of a building owing to the difficulty of member production-installation. To solve these problems, a technology to produce FCP using a CNC machine was developed. Basically, it delivers the information on a free-form building designed to the CNC machine, the shapes of RTM and PCM are created using the information delivered and FCP are produced with the RTM and PCM which act as forms. Since the construction duration and project cost are limited on site, the efficiency of FCP production-installation is significant for application of the technology. For it is almost impossible to change the production-installation layout and process once they are set in the construction phase, they should be carefully determined. Before the production-installation layout are established, it is necessary to analyze the factors that influence the duration. Thus, the study intends to analyze influence factors in PCM mold on estimation of the production-installation duration for FCP. According to the analysis of influence factors, a simulation model for estimation of the duration that changes depending on the constraint conditions can be built.
