Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate patterns of failure time after insertion, failure rate according to loading time after insertion, and the patterns of failure after loading. Materials and Methods: A total of 331 mini-implants were classified into the non-failure group (NFG) and failure group (FG), which was divided into failed group before loading (FGB) and failed group after loading (FGA). Orthodontic force was applied to both the NFG and FGA. Failed mini-implants after insertion, ratio of FGA to NFG according to loading time after insertion, and failed mini-implants according to failed time after loading were analyzed. Results: Percentages of failed mini-implants after insertion were 15.79%, 36.84%, 12.28%, and 10.53% at 4, 8, 12, and 16 weeks, respectively. Mini-implant failure demonstrated a peak from 4 to 5 weeks after insertion. The failure rates according to loading time after insertion were 13.56%, 8.97%, 11.32%, and 5.00% at 4, 8, 12, and 16 weeks, respectively. Percentages of failed mini-implants after loading were 13.79%, 24.14%, 20.69%, and 6.9% at 4, 8, 12, and 16 weeks, respectively. Conclusion: Mini-implant stability is typically acquired 12 to 16 weeks after insertion, and immediate loading can cause failure of the mini-implant. Failure after loading was observed during the first 12 weeks.

In an optical disc archive system, disc insertion process is an important part. Furthermore, dynamic analysis with the contact area between multi-bent leaf spring and a disc should be considered because the contact area is moved when the disc is inserted into the cartridge. In this paper, a finite element model of disc insertion was constructed based on dynamic characteristics, vertical stiffness, and dynamic response. The disc insertion model was validated with the experimental results. To identify the dynamic response of the disc induced by the changed contact area, applied force to the disc and the stiffness of the multi-bent leaf spring were analyzed. As the results, the factors which cause the failure of the disc insertion were investigated.

This paper presents an analysis of the trans-lunar trajectory insertion performance of the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO), the first lunar exploration spacecraft of the Republic of Korea. The successful launch conducted on August 4, 2022 (UTC), utilized the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The trans-lunar trajectory insertion performance plays a crucial role in ensuring the overall mission success by directly influencing the spacecraft's onboard fuel consumption. Following separation from the launch vehicle (LV), a comprehensive analysis of the trajectory insertion performance was performed by the KPLO flight dynamics (FD) team. Both orbit parameter message (OPM) and orbit determination (OD) solutions were employed using deep space network (DSN) tracking measurements. As a result, the KPLO was accurately inserted into the ballistic lunar transfer (BLT) trajectory, satisfying all separation requirements at the target interface point (TIP), including launch injection energy per unit mass (C3), right ascension of the injection orbit apoapsis vector (RAV), and declination of the injection orbit apoapsis vector (DAV). The precise BLT trajectory insertion facilitated the smoother operation of the KPLO's remainder mission phase and enabled the utilization of reserved fuel, consequently significantly enhancing the possibilities of an extended mission.
Friction stir spot welding (FSSW) is a solid-state joining process and a rapidly growing dissimilar material welding technology for joining metallic alloys in the automotive industry. Welding tool shape and process conditions must be appropriately controlled to obtain high bonding characteristics. In this study, FSSW is performed on dissimilar materials AA5052-H32 aluminum alloy sheet and SPRC440 steel sheet, and the influence of the shape of joining tool and tool insertion depth during joining is investigated. A new intermetallic compound is produced at the aluminum and steel sheets joint. When the insertion depth of the tool is insufficient, the intermetallic compound between the two sheets did not form uniformly. As the insertion depth increased, the intermetallic compound layer become uniform and continuous. The joint specimen shows higher values of tensile shear load as the diameter and insertion depth of the tool increase. This shows that the uniform formation of the intermetallic compound strengthens the bonding force between the joining specimens and increases the tensile shear load.

The purpose of this study is to design and implement a 2-level secret information transmission system which can be used for information hiding of images transmitted over various IT communication media. To increase the robustness of the hiding power, we combined the steganography method which inserts secret object into cover object to hide the very fact of information hiding itself, and the preprocessing stage to encrypt the secret object before the stego-insertion stage. As a result, even when the stego-image is broken by an attacker, the secret image is protected by encryption. We implemented the 2-level image insertion and extraction algorithm by using C++ programming language. Experiment shows that the PSNR values of stego-images of ours exceed 30.00db which is the threshold of human recognition. The methodology of this study can be applied broadly to the information hiding and protection of the military secret images.
This study was to investigate the retentive force changes according to repeated insertion and withdrawal of Cr-Co alloy clasps, commonly used in this country, and the differences in retentive capacities between Aker's clasp and I-bar clasp. The author selected 4 kinds of Cr-Co alloys and Type IV gold alloy, and measured the retentive force changes of each clasp type in undercut depth of 0.25mm and analyzed statistically. The following results were obtained. 1. In both Aker's and I-bar clasps, there were no statistically significant differencies in retentive forces among 4 Cr-Co alloys. 2. Cr-Co alloys exerted greater retentive forces than those of gold alloy, 2 times greater in Aker's clasps and 2.5 times in I-bar clasps. 3. In all test specimens, I-bar clasps exerted greater retentive forces than Aker's clasps. 4. In all test specimens, there were trends of second order relationships in retentive force changes.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze stress distributions in the roots, periodontal ligaments (PDLs), and bones around cylindrical and tapered miniscrews inserted at different angles using a finite element analysis. Methods: We created a three-dimensional (3D) maxilla model of a dentition with extracted first premolars and used 2 types of miniscrews (tapered and cylindrical) with 1.45-mm diameters and 8-mm lengths. The miniscrews were inserted at $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ angles with respect to the bone surface. A simulated horizontal orthodontic force of 2 N was applied to the miniscrew heads. Then, the stress distributions, magnitudes during miniscrew placement, and force applications were analyzed with a 3D finite element analysis. Results: Stresses were primarily absorbed by cortical bone. Moreover, very little stress was transmitted to the roots, PDLs, and cancellous bone. During cylindrical miniscrew insertion, the maximum von Mises stress increased as insertion angle decreased. Tapered miniscrews exhibited greater maximum von Mises stress than cylindrical miniscrews. During force application, maximum von Mises stresses increased in both groups as insertion angles decreased. Conclusions: For both cylindrical and tapered miniscrew designs, placement as perpendicular to the bone surface as possible is recommended to reduce stress in the surrounding bone.

This in vitro study investigated and compared the durability and retention of three types of attachments. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three commercially available attachments were investigated: $Clix^{(R)}$, Dalbo-$Plus^{(R)}$ and $Locator^{(R)}$. In total, 72 samples of these attachments were placed in the acrylic resin forms and subjected to mechanical testing (5400 cycles of insertion and removal) over the respective ball or Locator abutments immersed in artificial saliva at pH 7 and $37^{\circ}C$. The abutments were placed at angulations of $0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$. The retention force was recorded at the beginning and after 540, 1080, 2160, 3240, 4320 and 5400 insertion-removal cycles. RESULTS. The results revealed that there were significant differences in the average values of the insertion/removal force due to angulation ($F_{(2.48)}=343619$, P<.05) and the type of attachment ($F_{(7.48)}=23.220$, P<.05). CONCLUSION. Greater angulation of the abutments was found to influence the retention capacity of the attachments, and the fatigue test simulating 5 years of denture insertion and removal did not produce wear in the metal abutments.
Statement of problem: An orthodontic miniscrew implant has been used as a skeletal anchorage for orthodontic treatment. However, any relation among the influence of the cortical bone, morphologic differences of orthodontic miniscrew implants and new bone formation hasn't been made clear yet. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the orthodontic miniscrew implant could work as an intraoral skeletal anchorage immediately and stably for orthodontic treatment after insertion of it. Material and methods: Two types of orthodontic miniscrew implants were used in this experiment; tapered type and straight type. One hundred and sixty eight orthodontic miniscrew implants were inserted into the tibiae of 21 rabbits and sacrificed on 3, 7, 11, 14, 21 and 28days later after insertion of them to study removal torque values and histologic and histomorphometric analyses. Results: The results were as follows. 1. The removal torque values of the tapered type were higher than those of the straight type in all groups(p<0.05). 2. There wasn't any distinguishing differences between the tapered type and the straight type about the new bone formation percentage. 3. The removal torque values for both the tapered type and the straight type were gradually decreased at early stages of the test but started to increase at the 7 days group of the straight type and the 11 days group of the tapered type. 4. New bone formation percentage was increased gradually for both the tapered and the straight types as time passed(p<0.05). 5. It was found that the tapered type showed lower values in the cortical bone about both the maximum equilibratory stress distribution and the maximum principal stress distribution than the straight type in linear finite elements analysis. Conclusion: According to the research, the removal torque values were decreased at 7 days group of the tapered type and 11 days group of the straight type after the insertion of the orthodontic miniscrew implants in tibiae of rabbits. Considering the human bone activity, it is better to apply the orthodontic force $3{\sim}4$ weeks later than to apply it immediately after the insertion of orthodontic miniscrew implants. Considering that general orthodontic force is about $250{\sim}500$ grams, the tapered type can be worked as a stable skeletal anchor age in an orthodontic treatment even if the orthodontic force is applied on it immediately after the insertion of it.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the retentive characteristics of the additional attachments used with implant bar attachment under repeated insertion/removal cycles. Materials and methods: The newly developed attachment and the commercially available attachment were investigated: ADD-Lock (AL), Locator blue (LB). Two fixtures were placed parallel to each other on the custom lower mounting, and patrix of each attachment was fixed to the fixture. Also, the matrix of each attachment was placed on the opposing upper mounting. A universal testing machine was used to measure the retentive force during initial, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, and 2500 repeated insertion/removal cycles. Wear and deformation of the attachment s were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mann-Whitney U test (α=.05) and wilcoxon signed-rank test (α=.05) were performed to compare retentive force between each group and before and after 2500 repeated insertion/removal cycles. Results: In terms of initial retentive force and retentive force after 2500 repeated insertion/removal cycles, the AL group (15.24 ± 1.46 N and 9.74 ± 1.16 N) showed significantly smaller values than the LB group (43.53 ± 12.39 N and 22.99 ± 4.77 N) (P<.05). Also, in the loss of retentive force, the AL group (5.50 ± 1.08 N, 36.08%) showed a smaller value than the LB group (20.54 ± 11.89 N, 47.19%) (P<.05). Based on SEM analysis, The AL group showed noticeable wear and deformation in the patrix and the LB group in the matrix. Conclusion: Locator showed a higher initial retentive force than newly developed attachment, while the loss of retentive force was also higher. Both additional attachments are considered to have sufficient retentive force after repeated insertion/removal cycles.
