  • Sensilla on the aedeagi of 4 species under the genus Damaster were studied using scanning electron microscopy. A total of 37 types of sensilla were distinguished from the aedeagi of the species examined. The number of sensilla types was the largest in D. (Coptolabrus) smaragdinus branickii, 25, and 23 in D. (C.) jankowskii jankowskii. In D. (Acoptolabrus) gehinii gehinii and D. (Damaster) blaptoides blaptoides, 22 and 21 types of sensilla were found, respectively. External morphology and distribution patterns of sensilla were also described. The phylogenetic relationships among the species were discussed based on their distribution patterns.

  • The spider, Tetragnatha squamata and its prey Empoasca vitis, the tea leafhopper, were investigated in laboratory on the prey-predator relationship. The predator spider showed a significant response to the increase of the prey. The predation effiency and the response of predator to its density were examined as well. The result of the experiments are give as questions.

  • A taxonomic study of the Oxyporinae including a single genus Oxyporus Fabricius in Korea is presented. Members of the genus are known to be obligate inhabitants on fleshy mushrooms. They are characterized by crescent-shaped last labial palpomere. Nine species are recognized, five of which are reported for the first time in Korea (Oxyporus basicornis Cameron, O. basiventris Jarrige, O. crocatus Fauvel, O. niger Sharp, O. triangulum Sharp). The illustrations, descriptions, and key to the Korean species of the Oxyporinae are presented.

  • As a result of an ongoing systematic study of the genus Phasia Latreille in Korea, we have discovered P. aurigera and P. takanoi for the first time in Korea. We here provide detailed redescriptions and illustrations with their diagnostic characters indicated. Phasia aurigera can be distinguished from other congeners by the combination of the following characteristics: 1) scutum with distinct yellow pruinose spot; 2) male abdominal tergite 5 posteromarginally with V-shaped yellow pruinosity; 3) distiphallus divided into anterior and posterior processes; 4) female sternite 7 short, as long as or slightly longer than sternite 6 (visible part); and 5) female sternite 8 (ovipositor) bent dorsally. Phasia takanoi can also be distinguished by the combination of the following characteristics: 1) abdominal tergites strongly shiny; 2) surstylus strongly bent upward; and 3) posterior margin of female sternite 7 straight in ventral view.

  • The earwig species Spongovostox sakaii Nishikawa, 2006 is reported from the Korean Peninsula for the first time. The species was originally described from Amami-Oshima, Nansei Islands, Japan, which is located in the Oriental Region. Its distribution in Korea was confirmed by collections from Gwangneung Forest, which is located in the middle of South Korea. This is also first record of the pantropical genus Spongovostox Burr, 1911a from the Palearctic Region. Along with Labia minor Linnaeus, 1758 and Paralabellula curvicauda (Motschulsky, 1863), which had been reported from Korea previously, notes on the species are provided. And a key, descriptions, photos, and illustrations are given for their identification.

  • A total of 56 genera and 101 species of the fly family Tephritidae have been previously recorded in Korea. As a result of an ongoing study of this family, I report the following ten additional species new to Korea: Actinoptera montana (Meijere, 1924), Actinoptera reticulata Ito, 1984, Campiglossa luxorientis(Hering, 1940), C. melanochroa (Hering, 1941), C. quadriguttata (Hendel, 1927), C. shensiana (Chen, 1938), Oxyna gansuica Wang, 1998, Tephritis jocaste Hering, 1953, Tephritis okera (Shinji, 1940), and Trupanea guttistella (Hering, 1951). Among the five genera involved here, the genus Actinoptera Rondani, 1871 is recognized for the first time in Korea. Therefore, 57 genera and 111 species are now officially recognized for the Korean tephritid fauna. For each newly recognized Korean species, I provide new Korean name, synonymy, taxonomic diagnosis and color photographs. When possible, I list the host records and discuss their intraspecific variability and sexual dimorphism.
