Purpose: High energy requirement and long cooking time are limiting consumption of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan), a nutritious food. This study was performed to estimate energy and time demand by different methods of cooking pigeon pea. Methods: Pigeon pea (150 g) was soaked in 2.0 L of water at ambient temperature ($29{\pm} 2^{\circ}C$) to determine hydration behavior. Cooking experiments were conducted using aluminum and pressure-cooking pots. Efficiency of cooking was evaluated using four types of cooking appliances (kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), electric, and charcoal stoves). Normal (continuous heating until the food was satisfactorily cooked) and control (controlling the energy input to closely match the actual energy required) cooking were conducted. Energy requirement and duration of cooking were determined using standard procedures. Results: Soaking increased moisture content from 11.99 to 30.01% in 90 min, while water absorption rate decreased with soaking duration. In cooking 150 g of pigeon pea using kerosene stove, presoaked normal pressure-pot cooking method consumed the least energy (10 800 kJ) and time (205 min), while unsoaked normal cooking consumed the highest energy (18 450 kJ) and time (336 min). Using LPG stove, unsoaked normal cooking method required the highest energy (52 470 kJ), while presoaked control pressure-pot required the least energy (14 405 kJ). For electric stove, the lowest energy (15 560 kJ) and shortest duration (105 min) were recorded during control cooking of presoaked sample in the pressure-pot. Conclusions: Control cooking was not practicable using charcoal stove. Generally, kerosene stove consumed the least energy, while electric stove was found to have the shortest duration of cooking.

This paper deals with an economic evaluation of domestic immersing type photoelectrochemical hydrogen production. We also make some sensitivity analysis of hydrogen production prices by changing the values of input factors such as the initial capital cost, the solar to hydrogen conversion efficiency, and the system duration time. The hydrogen production price of the immersing type photoelectrochemical system was estimated as 8,264,324 won/$kgH_2$. It is expected that the production cost by photoelectrochemical hydrogen production can be reduced to 26,961 won/$kgH_2$ if the solar to hydrogen conversion efficiency is increased to 14%, the system duration time is increased to 20,000 hours, and the initial capital cost is decreased to 10% of the current level. The photoelectrochemical hydrogen production is evaluated as uneconomical at this time, and we need to enhance the solar to hydrogen conversion efficiency and the system duration time as well as to reduce prices of the system facilities.
In this paper, we achieve implementation of a Time-Frequency Domain Reflectometry(TFDR) system through comparatively low performance(100MS/s) PCI extensions for Instrumentation(PXI). The TFDR is the general methodology of Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR) and Frequency Domain Reflectometry(FDR). This methodology is robust in Gaussian noises, because the fixed frequency bandwidth is used. Moreover, the methodology can get more information of the fault by using the normalized time-frequency cross correlation function. The Arbitrary Waveform Generator(AWG) module generates the input signal, and the digital oscilloscope module acquires the input and reflected signals, while PXI controller module performs the control of the total PXI modules and execution of the main algorithm. The maximum range of measurement and the blind spot are calculated according ta variations of time duration and frequency bandwidth. On the basis of above calculations, the algorithm and the design of input signals used in the TFDR system are verified by real experiments. The correlation function is added to the TDR methodology for reduction of the blind spot in the TFDR system.
Speech coding techniques have been studied to reduce the complexity and bit rate but also to improve the sound quality. CELP type vocoder, has used as a one of standard, supports the great sound quality even low bit rate. In this paper, the preprocessing of input speech to reduce the bit rate is the different with the conventional vocoder. The different kinds of parameter are used for the preprocessing so this paper is compared with theses parameters for finding the more appropriate parameter for the vocoder. The parameters are used to synthesize the speech not to encode or decode for coding technique so we proposed the simple algorithm not to have the influence on the processing time or the computation time. The parameters in used the preprocessing step are speaking rate, duration and PSOLA technique.
Climate change brought on by global warming increased the frequency of flood and drought on the Korean Peninsula, along with the casualties and physical damage resulting therefrom. Preparation and response to these water disasters requires national-level planning for water resource management. In addition, watershed-level management of water resources requires flow duration curves (FDC) derived from continuous data based on long-term observations. Traditionally, in water resource studies, physical rainfall-runoff models are widely used to generate duration curves. However, a number of recent studies explored the use of data-based deep learning techniques for runoff prediction. Physical models produce hydraulically and hydrologically reliable results. However, these models require a high level of understanding and may also take longer to operate. On the other hand, data-based deep-learning techniques offer the benefit if less input data requirement and shorter operation time. However, the relationship between input and output data is processed in a black box, making it impossible to consider hydraulic and hydrological characteristics. This study chose one from each category. For the physical model, this study calculated long-term data without missing data using parameter calibration of the Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), a physical model tested for its applicability in Korea and other countries. The data was used as training data for the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) data-based deep learning technique. An anlysis of the time-series data fond that, during the calibration period (2017-18), the Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) and the determinanation coefficient for fit comparison were high at 0.04 and 0.03, respectively, indicating that the SWAT results are superior to the LSTM results. In addition, the annual time-series data from the models were sorted in the descending order, and the resulting flow duration curves were compared with the duration curves based on the observed flow, and the NSE for the SWAT and the LSTM models were 0.95 and 0.91, respectively, and the determination coefficients were 0.96 and 0.92, respectively. The findings indicate that both models yield good performance. Even though the LSTM requires improved simulation accuracy in the low flow sections, the LSTM appears to be widely applicable to calculating flow duration curves for large basins that require longer time for model development and operation due to vast data input, and non-measured basins with insufficient input data.
Input Current Correction of Single-Phase Buck Rectifier is studied in the paper. To sinusoidal waveform the input current with a near-unity power factor over a wide variety of operating conditions, the output capacitor is operated with voltage reversibility for the supply by arranging the auxiliary diode and power switching device. Then the output voltage is superposed on the input voltage during on time duration of power switching devices in order to minimize the input current distortion caused by the small input voltage when changing the polarity. The tested setup, using two insulated-gate bipolar transistors(IGBT) and a microcomputer, is implemented and IGBT are switched with 20[kHz], which is out of the audible band. Moreover, a rigorous state-space analysis is introduced to predict the operation of the rectifier. The simulated results confirm that the input current can be sinusoidal waveform with a near-unity power factor and a satisfactory output voltage regulation can be achieved.
In this study, the observational environment for sunshine duration at Seoul and Daegu Automated Synoptic Observing Systems (ASOSs) was analyzed using a numerical model. In order to analyze the effects of topography and buildings on observational environment for sunshine duration, the model domains including the elevated building and mountainous areas around Seoul and Daegu ASOSs were considered. Three dimensional topography and buildings used as input data for the numerical model were constructed using a geographic information system (GIS) data. Solar azimuth and altitude angles calculated for the analysis period (one-week for each season in 2008) in this study were validated against those by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI). The starting and ending times of sunshine duration observed at ASOSs largely differed from the respective sunrise and sunset times simply calculated using solar angles and information of ASOSs' latitude and longitude, because uneven topography and elevated buildings around ASOSs cut off sunshine duration right after the sunrise and right before the sunset. The model produced the sunshine indices for Seoul and Daegu ASOSs with the time interval of one minute and the period of one week for each season and we compared the hourly averaged indices with those observed at the ASOSs. One week of which the cloudiness is lowest for each season is selected for analysis. Not only the adjacent buildings but also distant buildings and mountain cut off sunshine duration right after the sunrise and right before the sunset. The buildings and topography cutting off sunshine duration were found for each analyzing date. It was suggested that, in order to evaluate the observational environment for sunshine duration, we need to consider even the information of topography and/or building far away from ASOSs. This study also showed that the analyzing method considering the GIS data is very useful for evaluation of observational environment for sunshine duration.
A study has been made on how to occur inertial oscillations in a rotating flow. The flow is considered to be induced by differentially-rotating top and bottom disks with infinite radius. The top and bottom disks are assumed to be set in motion over a finite initial start-up time duration from initial solid body rotation ($\Omega$) to each finial state, i.e., the top disk is rotating at the angular velocity (${\Omega}+{\Delta}{\Omega}$) and the bottom disk (${\Omega}-{\Delta}{\Omega}$). The system Reynolds number, which is a reciprocal of conventional Ekman number in rotating flows, is very high so that a boundary layer flow near disks is pronounced. From a strict theoretical analysis, it is clearly found the fact that inertial oscillation in a rotating flow is caused by excessive input of torque during start-up phase. Above finding comes from the following physics of theoretical result: in the case of abrupt start-up within very shorter time-duration than spin-up time scale, the inertial oscillation is magnified but it could be completely depressed in the case of mildly accelerated start-up, i.e., start-up process being established over diffusion time scale.
Connection admission control(CAC), which decides whether or not to accept a new call request, is one of the most Important preventive congestion control techniques in asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) networks. To develop a practical CAC scheme, first we propose a "Modified Cell Loss Probability MP${\nu}"$, which is based on "Virtual Cell Loss Probability P${\nu}"$, taking into account mean burst duration of input traffic source and buffer size in ATM networks. MP${\nu}"$ computes more accurate cell loss probability than P${\nu}"$ without increasing computational complexity, since P${\nu}"$ is formulated simply form the maximum and the average cell rate of input traffic. P${\nu}"$ is overestimated as compared to the real cell loss probability when the mean burst duration is relatively small to the buffer capacity. Then, we Propose a CAC scheme, based on "Modified Virtual Bandwidth(MVB)" method, which may individualize the cell loss probabilities in heterogeneous traffic environments. For the proposed approach, we define the interference intensity to identify interferences between heterogeneous traffic sources and use it as well as MP${\nu}"$ to compute MVB. Our approach is well suitable for ATM networks since it provides high bandwidth utilization and guarantees simple and real time CAC computation for heterogeneous traffic environments.heterogeneous traffic environments.
The impact hammer is extensively used in experimental modal analysis as a means to provide force over a broad range of frequencies. The hammer mass and the impact head are often changed to achieve a desired impact time duration with its corresponding input frequency spectrum, these mass changes affect the performance and sensitivity of the force transducer employed to measure the impact force. Both a mathematical model describing the effects of impact head and hammer mass on the performance of the force transducer and experimental verification of this model are presented here.
