  • Gas turbines, which are used as generators for frequency regulation of the domestic power system, are increasing in use due to the carbon-neutral policy, quick startup and shutdown, and high thermal efficiency. Since the gas turbine rotates the turbine using high-temperature flame, the turbine inlet temperature is acting as a key factor determining the performance and lifespan of the device. However, since the inlet temperature cannot be directly measured, the temperature calculated by the manufacturer is used or the temperature predicted based on field experience is applied, which makes it difficult to operate and maintain the gas turbine in a stable manner. In this study, we present a model that can predict the inlet temperature of a reheat gas turbine based on Deep Neural Network (DNN), which is widely used in artificial neural networks, and verify the performance of the proposed DNN based on actual data.

  • The effects of the regeneration parameters such as inlet gas temperature, space velocity, oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas, and initial particulate loading on the oxidation of the particulate inside ceramic cordierite filter have been investigated through an engine experiment. As the inlet gas temperature increases, the remarkable filter temperature occurs owing to the rapid combustion rate. Though the higher space velocity affirms the safe regeneration, it also requires much fuel consumption of the burner. For that reason, the space velocity should be compromised considering the fuel economy. The excessive accumulation of the particulate may cause undesirable regeneration temperatures inside filer even under the optimized regeneration condition. The inlet gas temperature should be selected to overcome the variation of the oxygen concentration which is inherent feature of the diesel engine. It is the most important factor in the regeneration control techniques.

  • An experimental study of the effect of operating conditions on the behavior of a lean premixed laboratory combustor operating on natural gas has been conducted. Measurements were made characterizing the pressure fluctuations in the combustor and the flame structure over a range of inlet temperatures, inlet velocities and equivalence ratios. In addition the fuel distribution at the inlet to the combustor was varied such that it was an independent parameter in the experiment. Inlet temperature, inlet velocity and equivalence ratio were all found to have an effect on the stability characteristics of the combustor. The nature of this effect, however, depended on the fuel distribution. For example, with one fuel distribution the combustor would become unstable when the temperature was increased, whereas with a different fuel distribution the combustor would become unstable when the temperature was decreased. Similarly, the operating conditions had an effect on the flame structure. For example the intensity-weighted center of mass of the flame was found to move closer to the center body as either the temperature or equivalence ratio increased. It was interesting and somewhat surprising to note, however, that as the location of the center of mass changed with operating conditions it did so by moving along a line of constant flame angle.

  • In this paper, three refrigeration systems bypassing hot-gas to compressor outlet, compressor and condenser outlet and evaporator inlet are theoretically compared to offer basic design data for performance depending on cooling load using a HYSYS program. The main results are summarized as follows : First, the COP of third system is the highest. Next, the COP of second system is higher than first one. And, the temperature of compressor inlet of third system is constant for all cooling load. Compared to first and second system, the compressor inlet temperature of the first system is higher than second one for all cooling loads. From the above results, third system, which is bypassing hot-gas to evaporator inlet, is more advantageous when considering the precise temperature control and excellent performance of oil and water cooler of industrial machine.

  • Design analysis of the solid oxide fuel cell and gas turbine combined power system is performed considering different methods for preheating cell inlet air. The purpose of air preheating is to keep the temperature difference between cell inlet and outlet within a practical design range. Three different methods are considered such as a burner in front of the cell, a preheater in front of the cell and recirculation of the cathode exit gas. Analyses are carried out for two maximum cell temperature differences. The greater temperature difference ensures higher efficiency. The cathode exit gas recirculation exhibits better performance than other methods.

  • The exhaust gas flow in the inlet collector of close coupled catalyst(CCC) adapted to the exhaust manifold is very complex flow because the exhaust gas is a pulsation flow with several port flow. The distribution of gas flow and temperature in inlet collector effect to the efficiency of catalytic converter. In this study, it measures temperatures on several point in inlet collector with two kind of inlet collector volume. And it analyzes with CFD to exhaust manifold and close coupled catalyst for temperature and flow. Comparing to measured and analyzed result, it find increasing of collector volume effects to catalyst temperature distribution and uniformity of catalytic converter

  • Diverging channel from gas engine exit to the inlet section of Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) has been re-designed for 1 MW system. To improve the uniformity in velocity and temperature distribution of existing design(Case A and B), two additional test geometries have been chosen for the numerical simulation. At first, gas burner exit section has been centered to the inlet section of the boiler(Case C) and uniformity in velocity and temperature distribution has been improved considerably. Secondly, the diverging channel length can be further reduced to compact geometry with new guide vane design (Case D and E). Proposed design shows overall improvement in uniformity in velocity and temperature distribution compared to existing one.

  • A numerical study was conducted to determine the effects of high temperature air, including equivalent ratio on flow field, temperature, evaporation, and overall temperature distribution in gas turbine combustor. A sector model of a typical wall jet can combustor, featuring introduction of primary air and dilution air via wall jet, was used in calculations. Flow field and temperature distribution were analyzed. Operating conditions such as inlet temperature and overall equivalent ratio were varied from 373 to 1300 K, and from 0.3 to 0.6, respectively, while any other operating conditions were fixed. The RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model and eddy breakup model were used for turbulence and combustion model respectively. It was found that the increase with the inlet air temperature, velocity in the combustor is accelerated and evaporation of liquid fuel is not affected in primary zone, high temperature inlet air enhances the evaporation and improves overall temperature distribution factor.

  • Design analysis of the solid oxide fuel cell and gas turbine combined power system is performed considering different methods for preheating cell inlet air. The purpose of air preheating is to keep the temperature difference between cell inlet and outlet within a practical design range thus to reduce thermal stress inside the cell. Three different methods considered are (1) adopting a burner in front of the cell, (2) adopting a preheater (heat transfer from the main combustor) in front of the cell and (3) using recirculation of the cathode exit gas. For each configuration, analyses are carried out for two values of allowable maximum cell temperature difference. Performance characteristics of all cases are compared and design limitations are discussed. Relaxation of the cell temperature difference (larger difference) is proved to ensure higher efficiency. Recirculation of the cathode exit gas exhibits better performance than other methods and this advantage becomes more prominent as the constraint of the cell temperature difference becomes more severe (smaller temperature difference).
