  • This study suggests a precision flow control system that enables fluid injection of a few grams at a time in a few ms time duration. The fluid injection system suggested here consists of a high pressure fluid pump, a 3 way 3 position directional control valve, an injector and an orifice. The orifice is located between the directional control valve and the injector. By supplying current signal to the directional control valve, the prescribed small amount of fluid can be supplied to a plant through the injector. The control robustness of the suggested system against the disturbances like the pressure change in a plant and the viscosity variation of the injected fluid is secured easily by using an orifice with very small inside diameter and setting the supply pressure with comparatively high value. The control performances of the suggested system are verified by numerical simulations and experiments. The outcomes of this research could be applied to the common rail injection control of lubrication oil for large size marine diesel engines, and other industrial plants.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of doxapram after medetomidine treatment. Twenty dogs were sedated with medetomidine(0.04mg/kg IM) Ten dogs were injected doxapram(2mg/kg IV) as a experimental group and ten dogs were injected with saline(5$m\ell$ IV) as a control group in twenty minutes after the injection of medetomidine. Recovery time, heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature. blood chemistry, electrocardiogram findings (ECG) were recorded. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. Medetomidine revealed fast and excellent sedative effect. 2. Recovery time was shorted by doxapram(p<0.01) 3. Respiratory rates were decreased significantly by medetommidine, but increased remarkably after the injection of doxapram and them decreased gradually and revealed normal levels(p<0.01). 4. Herts rates were decreased significantly by medetomidine but increased remarkably after the injection of doxapram and then decreased gradually and revealed normal levels(p<0.01). 5. Body temperature were increased slightly and then decreased by medetomldine and in experimental group revealed with higher levels than those of control group(p<0.01) 6. Arrhythmias were observed after the injection of medetomidine, but relieved after the injection of doxapram . There was no another change on electrocardiograms.

  • This paper predicts the mass and the length of injection-molded products through the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) method. The ANN was implemented with 5 input parameters and 2 output parameters(mass, length). The input parameters, such as injection time, melt temperature, mold temperature, packing pressure and packing time were selected. 44 experiments that are based on the mixed sampling method were performed to generate training data for the ANN model. The generated training data were normalized to eliminate scale differences between factors to improve the prediction performance of the ANN model. A random search method was used to find the optimized hyper-parameter of the ANN model. After the ANN completed the training, the ANN model predicted the mass and the length of the injection-molded product. According to the result, average error of the ANN for mass was 0.3 %. In the case of length, the average deviation of ANN was 0.043 mm.

  • The gate location in injection molding has a significant influence on the quality and productivity. Therefore, injection molding CAE is used to determine the gate location. With increasing injection molding CAE and the adoption of a 3D mesh, which takes more computation time for analysis, gate location optimization in the shortest time and least resources is the most challenging issue. In this paper, we propose a methodology for optimization based on the flow length to consider the flow balance and weld line. In addition, the flow balance is obtained in the disc-type plate while the weld lines exit the slit-holes to avoid a stress concentration.

  • Background: Transforaminal epidural block (TFEB) is an effective treatment option for radicular pain. To reduce complications from intravascular injection during TFEB, use of imaging modalities such as real-time fluoroscopy (RTF) or digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has been recommended. In this study, we investigated whether DSA improved the detection of intravascular injection during TFEB at the whole spine level compared to RTF. Methods: We prospectively examined 316 patients who underwent TFEB. After confirmation of final needle position using biplanar fluoroscopy, 2 mL of nonionic contrast medium was injected at a rate of 0.5 mL/s under RTF; 30 s later, 2 mL of nonionic contrast medium was injected at a rate of 0.5 mL/s under DSA. Results: Thirty-six intravascular injections were detected for an overall rate of 11.4% using RTF, with 45 detected for a rate of 14.2% using DSA. The detection rate using DSA was statistically different from that using RTF (p=0.004). DSA detected a significantly higher proportion of intravascular injections at the cervical level than at the thoracic (p=0.009) and lumbar (p=0.011) levels. Conclusion: During TFEB at the whole spine level, DSA was better than RTF for the detection of intravascular injection. Special attention is advised for cervical TFEB, because of a significantly higher intravascular injection rate at this level than at other levels.

  • The importance of fast and accurate body temperature measurement with a portable thermometer is increasing. In order to reduce the temperature measurement response time of the infrared ear thermometer, it is very important to develop a structure for a thermometer having an efficient heat transfer path. Most of the existing ear thermometers are single structures that do not consider thermal efficiency, which may delay measurement time and reduce measurement accuracy. Therefore, in this study, the upper part of the thermometer in contact with the ear is made of a thermally conductive material, and the lower part of the thermometer is made of a thermal barrier material so that heat can be concentrated on the infrared sensor of the thermometer by blocking the upper part of the heat. For the efficiency of production, it was intended to be manufactured through the double injection process, and for this purpose, in this paper, the optimal process parameters were derived through the double injection process analysis.

  • The simplified dynamic models of the timer assembly in the diesel engine fuel injection system were developed. The first order system with time delay was assumed and the various parameters in this model were obtained by experimental data. These simplified dynamic models were used for the development of control algorithm of the injection timing control system. The PI control algorithm was modified to include the anti-windup property and disturbance compensation. This modified PI control algorithm was used for the control of the injection timing. Improved control accuracy and reduced control efforts were observed.

  • In this study, a cycle simulation program of a Unit-Injection(UI) system was developed to estimate the injection performance of newly designed injection system. A fundamental theory of the simulation program is based on the conservation law of mass. Loss of fuel mass in the system due to leakage, compressibility effect of the liquid fuel and friction loss in the control volume was considered in the algorithm f the program. For the evaluation of the simulation program developed, the experimental result which was offered by the Technical Research Center of Doowon Precision Industry Co. was incorporated. Two main parameters; the maximum pressure in the plunger chamber and total fuel mass(kg) injected into the engine cylinder per cycle, were measured and compared with the simulation results. It was found that the maximum error rate of the simulation result to the experimental output was less than 3% in the rated rotational speed (rpm) range of the plunger cam.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the in-cylinder flows and different injection timings on fuel behavior in the cylinder of a GDI engine. Three different flows types induced by using masked port, unmasked port, and port deactivation were tumble, swirl&tumble, and high swirl respectively. LIEF technique was applied to investigate the mixture formation and fuel distribution at ignition time in the transparent engine with optical access through the piston top and upper part of cylinder liner. Injection timings of 180,90, and 60 degrees before TDC were examined. It was found that tumble flow was more effective on the homogeneous mixture formation than other flow and swirl flow transported more fuel vapor to the exhaust side at early injection mode, and swirl and swirl & tumble flow made fuel vapor concentrate around the cylinder center at late injection mode.

  • In order to protect the nuclear reactor coolant system from corrosion, lithium is injected into the coolant from the chemical injection tank. The present study investigates the chemical injection characteristics of the injection tank using a low Reynolds number turbulence model. Laminar flow analysis showed very little diffusion of the jet and gave incorrect flow and concentration fields. A disk located near the inlet of the injection tank was effective in mixing the chemical additives in the top portion of the tank, and significant reduction in injection time was obtained.
