A Study on the Improvement of Double Injection-molding Keypad Process (이중 사출 키패드 성형 공정 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the plastic resin such as PC, ABS are widely used in IT market. Especially, in most cases the keypads mounted on the mobile phone are the dual-injection-plated type. Environmental regulation is based on the quality of injection-molded products and the minimum process steps are required to avoid the plating defects. Various parameters to produce the injection-molded plastic products make it difficult to obtain the desired stability. However, the past experience and the use of CAE analysis make it possible to predict the problems occurred in injection molding process. Especially, the problems of the weld lines such as runner balancing, bending, deformation and forming defects can be solved systematically and minimized by CAE analysis. Through this study, the non-uniform volumetric shrinkage and the difference in temperature distribution induce the deformation and the high value of stress causes the problems such as crack.

Filling Behavior of Polymer Melt in Micro Injection Molding for V-Grooves Pattern (V-Groove 패턴을 위한 마이크로 사출성형의 폴리머 멜트 충전 거동)

  • This study uses two numerical approaches to analyze the filling behavior of micro patterns on micro-injection molding for V-grooves pattern which cannot be simulated with conventional CAE packages. The parametric studies have been performed to examine the fidelity of micro patterns with respect to temperature, pressure, inlet velocity and pattern location on the mold according to the boundary condition from the macro pressure and velocity data which can be obtained by conventional CAE packages. Through these numerical approaches, the filling behavior of polymer melt in micro patterns can be understood, the quality of replication can be predicted, and the V-groove pattern can be shaped uniformly during the process of injection molding.

  • Injection molding process is one of the popular manufacturing methods to produce plastic parts with high efficiency and low cost. The tub-drum for drum type washer is made by an insert injection molding process with aluminum alloy insert of windmill type and has a big and complex structure consisted of many ribs to sustain the strength. In this paper, the volumetric shrinkages of rib part and bottom part surrounded by a windmill type insert are analyzed according to the vertical and circumferential direction of tub-drum. Volumetric shrinkage and its difference according to the height or radius of tub drum inform the designer to reduce the warpage of tub drum, and the optimal design of tub drum can be done from the those results. The change of volumetric shrinkage according to packing pressure is also analyzed. It is very important to analyze the volumetric shrinkage of tub drum because it generates the wearing phenomena at the rotating part connected to an aluminum alloy insert due to the warpage of tub drum.

  • In case of thin-wall two-color injection molding, flashing often occurs when molten polymer flows into small gap at the parting line in mold with high pressure or under the unbalanced clamping force condition. In this study, flashing was examined in the production of thin-wall notebook case with large area when the rapid heat cycle molding (RHCM) technology was applied to the two-color injection molding. The effects of the RHCM technology on the part properties and weld-lines were compared with conventional injection molding. The flashing caused by the clamping device of the two-color injection molding machine was examined and compared by experiments and CAE analyses.

  • Using computer simulation, the processibility and properties of the inst겨ment panel of automobile produced by gas injection molding were predicted and evaluated. The P-V-T data of ABS, resin were used in the gas injection molding process in order to estimate the mold filling phenomena. The optimum process conditions were found by adjusting the process parameters including pressure, filling time, the positions of gas channel and runner. The process was simplified and the final instrument panel produced by the gas injection molding was found to have improved dimension stability compared to the one produced by conventional injection molding.

  • The synthesis of gates of injection-molded parts has been done empirically, since it requires profound knowledge about the gate design,. which is not available to designers through current CAD systems. GATEWAY is a knowledge module which contains knowledge to Permit non-experts as well as mold design experts to generate acceptable gate design of injection-molded parts. A knowledge-based CAD system is constructed by adding the knowledge module, GATEWAY, for gate synthesis and appropriate CAE programs for mold design analysis to an existing geometric modeler to provide designers, at the initial stage, with comprehensive process knowledge for gate synthesis. '3D TIMON', developed by TORAY Industries, Inc., is the useful software to analyze whole injection molding process with solid elements and is capable of generating solid mesh models directly from 3D CAD data. In this paper, we introduce '3D TIMON' and the application examples in the each industries.

In this study, we suggested a new 3D meshing. the method which can indicate the filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner system with Mold Flow MPI 6.1 and we found out that the calculation times are saved. As a feasibility study, we verified that Melt Flipper, RC Pin etc appeared the balanced filling behaviors. of geometrically balanced runner system and Melt Flipper, filling imbalance was indicated more accurately.
