The Prediction of Phase Morphology of Injection Molded Polymer Blends (사출성형된 고분자 블렌드의 형태학적 상구조 예측)

  • Morphology of injection molded polymer blend was investigated by experimental and theoretical approach. In experiments, the effects of injection speed and injection temperature on the morphology of injection molded MPPO/Nylon 6 blend were investigated. The morphology distribution across the part thickness was clearly observed in injection molded blend. We could observe several distinct regions across the thickness of molded part: skin layer, subskin layer and core region. The skin layer where the dispersed phase is fine and highly deformed to the flow direction is observed to be located near the part surface. The subskin layer located at inner region of the skin layer also observed. In the subskin layer, the dispersed phase is coarser than that of skin layer and deforms to the flow direction. Based on the experimental results, the calculation scheme to predict the morphology of injection molded polymer blend was suggested. The morphology of injection molded polymer blend could be predicted in corporation with the result of flow analysis obtained from commercial software for injection molding process and the theory of drop behavior under the flow. The suggested calculation scheme could predict the effect of injection conditions on the morphology of injection molded parts.

  • A light guiding plate (LGP) with nanometer-sized patterns was fabricated by injection molding method which employed electrically healed mold and the transcription of injection-molded parts was investigated. A Ni stamper was fabricated using MEMS technology. The Ni stamper was then installed in a movable heated core which is a key part of the mold. Using this mold, injection-molded plastic LGP parts were manufactured at different mold temperatures and the effect of the temperature on the transcription of the parts was investigated.

  • In this paper, the injection molding process of automotive seat-back cover is analyzed in terms of simulation and of experiment. FE analysis was used to obtain molding conditions such as injection pressure, filling pattern, packing, shrinkage. Vacuum system for low pressure injection molding is developed in the experiment. Low pressure injection molded parts have been compared with conventional molded parts in terms of molding quality and mechanical properties. Based on the results, good product and the productivity improvement can be obtained in low pressure injection molding for automotive seat-back cover.

  • It is well known that the powder injection molding(PIM) process can overcome the shape limitations of traditional powder compaction, the costs of machining, the productivity limits of isostatic pressing and slip casting, and the defect and tolerance limitations of conventional casting. Increasing demands from industry for not only the dimensional accuracy nut mechanical strength in PIMed parts have had much effort focused on the investigation of mechanical properties of mechanical strength in PIMed parts have had much effort focused on the investigation of mechanical properties of sintered parts formed with high-strength metallic powders. The 17_4 PH $10\mu{m}$ were injection-molded into flat tensile specimens. Sintering of the compacts was carried out at the various temperatures ranging from 900 to $1350^{\circ}C$. Sintering behavior of the compacts and tensile properties of sintered specimens were investigated.

  • In this study. an experimental work was performed to mold tensile specimens by using the injection molding machine. Melt temperature, mold temperature and the mixed ratio of recycled resin were selected as processing parameters for studying the effect of those conditions on the shrinkage and weight of molded parts. As a result, the shrinkage was increased with the higher mold and melt temperature and it was more sensitive to the change of mold temperature. On the other hand, the weight of molded parts was decreased with the increment of mold and melt temperature.

  • In this study, an experimental work was performed to mold tensile specimens by using the injection molding machine.   • Precision injection molding is an important technology for improving productivity and lowering costs in the fields of medical components, lenses and electrical connectors. The quality of injection molded parts is affected by various processing conditions such as filling time and packing pressure profile. It is difficult to consider all the variables at the same time for prediction of the quality. In this study, the genetic algorithm was used to obtain the optimal processing conditions for minimizing the volumetric shrinkage of molded parts. For a higher convergence rate, the method of design of experiments was used to analyze the relationship between processing conditions and volumetric shrinkage of molded parts, which served as analysis tool for the capability of searching optimal processing conditions but also greatly reduces the calculation time by utilizing the information of searching area. As a practical example, compact disks that require micron-level precision were chosen for the study.

  • In this study, an ultrasonic technique was employed to obtain pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) rela­tionship of polymer melt by measuring ultrasonic velocities under various temperatures and pressures. The proposed technique was applied to on-line monitoring of injection molding process as an attempt to predict quality of molded parts. From the comparison based on Tait equation, it was confirmed that the PVT behav­ior of a polymer is well described by the variation of ultrasonic velocities measured within the polymer medium. In addition, the changes in part weight and moduli were successfully predicted by combining the data collected from ultrasonic technique and artificial neural network algorithm. The results found from this study suggest that the proposed technique can be effectively utilized to monitor the evolution of solid­ification within the mold by measuring ultrasonic responses of various polymers during injection molding process. Such data are expected to provide a critical basis for the accurate prediction of final performance of molded parts.

  • Injection mold is a manufacturing process used to produce parts of complicated shape at a low cost. Many factors affect the quality of injection molded part during injection molding process. A study on the optimization of injection mold is progressed by using a simulation software like Moldflow. Filling, packing and cooling phases of injection molding processes are analyzed according to the mold design considering the shrinkage of molded part, the degree of filling rate and the wearing of a mold. Taguchi method is applied to analyze the significance of processing parameter and the dynamic characteristics according to the variation of processing parameters. From the results, the mold temperature and packing pressure influenced the shrinkage of injection molded part.

  • The shrinkages of injection molded parts are different in molding operational conditions, resins and additives. The shrinkage of injection molded part for crystalline polymer, PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) has been studied for various operational conditions of injection molding and content of additives. Mica was used as a additive to PBT to examine the part shrinkage according to the mica content. The part shrinkages of mica contained PBT decreased as mica content increases. Higher injection temperature and injection pressure resulted in a lower shrinkage. As mold temperature increases the part shrinkage decreased. The part shrinkage of flow direction was less than that of the perpendicular direction to the flow for both pure and mica contained PBT. However the shrinkage difference between flow and perpendicular to flow directions decreased as mica content increased.
