가스사출성형인자가 가스사출성형품의 중공부 형성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Processing Variables on the Gas Penetrated Part of Gas-Assisted Injection Molding)

  • Gas-assisted injection molding (GAIM) process is reducing the injection pressure during mold filling required as well as the shrinkage and warpage of the part and cycle time. Despite of these advantages, this process introduces new parameters and makes the application more difficult because the process interacts between gas and melt during injection molding process. Important GAIM factors that involved in this process include gas penetration design, locations of gas injection points, shot size, gas injection delay time as well as common injection molding parameters, gas pressure and gas injection time. In this study, the experiments were conducted to investigate effects of GAIM process variables on the gas penetration for PP and ABS moldings by changing gas injection point. Taguchi method was used fer the design of experiment. When the gas was injected at cavity's center, the most effective factor was shot size. When the gas was injected at cavity's end, the most effective factor was melt temperature. Injection speed was also an effective factor in GAIM process.

사출압축성형을 이용한 자동차용 도어그립 필름인서트성형 (Film Insert Molding of Automotive Door Grip Using Injection-Compression Molding)

  • 자동차용 도어그립을 대상으로 하여 3 차원 엠보 패턴이 인쇄된 필름을 적용한 인서트성형을 구현하기 위하여 사출압축성형을 사용하였다. 진공금형을 제작하여 필름 열성형을 하였으며, 필름인서트성형을 위하여 사출압축금형을 개발하였다. 3 개의 압력센서를 설치하여 금형 캐비티압력을 측정하였으며, 다양한 압축스트로크와 토글속도에 대한 사출압축성형 실험을 수행하여, 공정조건이 캐비티 압력과 엠보 패턴의 높이에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 압축스트로크 0.9mm와 느린 토글속도에서 엠보 패턴의 유지율이 높게 나타났다. 또한 엠보패턴이 최대 높이를 갖기 위한 공정조건은 캐비티 압력의 적분값이 최소가 되는 조건과 거의 동일하였다. 사출압축성형을 사용하여 엠보 패턴이 인쇄된 소프트한 촉감을 갖는 플라스틱 제품을 구현할 수 있다.

  • The injection molding process is analyzed to get the information on the mold design parameters and the optimum process conditions for automotive plastic front fender. The gate position, runner size and cooling channel are determined by the estimation of the flow balance, packing time, uniform cooling and shrinkage and warpage in the injection molding analyses. The procedure can be used in the mold design in the early stage when developing plastic parts.

다수 개 빼기 성형에서 일반사출성형과 사출압축성형의 성형특성 비교 (Comparison of Molding Characteristics for Multi-cavity Molding in Conventional Injection Molding and Injection Compression Molding)

  • 일반사출성형은 공정 중 보압단계에서 캐비티에 높은 압력이 작용하여 성형품에 큰 잔류응력이 남게 된다. 또한 캐비티 내 위치 별로 압력분포가 달라 균일한 물성의 제품을 얻는데 한계가 있다. 다수 개 빼기 일반사출성형에서는 캐비티간 충전 불균형이 일어나 캐비티간 품질의 편차를 일으킨다. 이와 같은 한계를 극복하기 위해 사출압축성형 공정을 사용하는 경우가 많다. 본 연구에서는 다수 개 캐비티를 갖는 금형을 이용하여 일반사출성형과 사출압축성형을 비교 분석하였다. 실험과 해석을 통하여 연구를 수행하였으며 투명한 수지인 PC와 PS를 이용하여 시편에 나타나는 복굴절을 관찰하여 일반사출성형과 사출압축성형에서 나타나는 성형특성을 비교하였다. 연구결과, 사출 압축성형으로 제작된 시편에서 캐비티 내의 압력이 균일하여 복굴절과 성형수축률이 낮고 균일하게 나타났다. 그리고 일반사출성형에서 나타나는 캐비티간 충전 불균형에 의한 캐비티간 물성의 편차가 사출압축성형에서는 크게 줄어들었다. 본 연구를 통하여 사출압축성형은 다수 개 빼기 사출성형에서 캐비티 내 균일한 물성확보뿐만 아니라 캐비티간 품질 불균형을 해소하는데 유용함을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The wavelike flow mark phenomenon is one of the surface defects that can arise during the injection stage of the injection molding process. We have performed a numerical analysis using a finite element method for the injection molding to verify the validity of 'Go-over' hypothesis. Also, we have compared the results of numerical analysis with available experimental data. Numerical analysis results of the flow marks are qualitatively in good agreement with experimental data of reference, but are quantitatively deviated from experimental data in a consistent manner. A parametric study has been performed to examine the correlative effects of various injection molding processing parameters and material properties on the flow mark size.

  • The present study covers an integrated simulation method to evaluate optical performance of an aspheric plastic lens by connecting an injection molding analysis with a ray tracing simulation. Traditional ray tracing methods have based on the assumption that the optical properties of a lens are homogeneous throughout the entire volume. This assumption is to a certain extent unrealistic for injection-molded plastic lenses because material properties vary at every point due to the injection molding effects. To take into account the effects of the inhomogeneous optical properties of the molded lens, a numerical scheme is developed to calculate the distribution of refractive index induced from the injection molding process. This index distribution is then reflected onto CODE $V^{(R)}$ simulation and used to calculate ray paths in inhomogeneous media. The proposed tracing scheme is implemented on the tracing of an aspheric lens for a mobile phone camera module.

  • Conventional injection molding system for producing extremely thin-wall parts such as Light Guide Plates(LGP's) for mobile displays is at the limit of its capability due to its tendency to develop frozen layers and the critical speed of injection. The molten polymer in the cavity freezes quickly as its heat is rapidly transferred to the mold base. Many attempts have been tried in the past to overcome this problem. The present study used the injection/compression molding technology to produce a thin-wall part, with enhanced features such as an automated mechanism for cutting gates. As a result, the total cycle time was reduced by almost 35 seconds, resulting in a productivity increase by 30%.

광학렌즈 사출성형금형 설계에 있어서 CAE기술의 활용 (Application of Birefringence CAE in Mould Design of Optic Lens Injection Molding Process)

  • This study is focused on simulation technology in injection molding process for plastic optic lenses. The CAE program, $3D-TIMON^{TM}$ is used for the injection molding simulation with O-PET resin material. The design for different gate shape and runner layout has been under review by CAE simulation results. Moreover, the prediction of birefringence and polarized light in injection molded optic lenses has been tested by the CAE Program. The simulation results have been expected to effectively use in the design of injection molding mould.

효과적인 웰드라인 제어를 위한 사출성형 유동해석 (Flow Analysis for an Effective Weld Line Control in Injection Molding)

  • Weld line is one of serious troubles which are observed in a plastic part manufactured by a injection molding process. This is caused by many process factors, which are molding pressure, temperature, velocity, location of a injection gate, mold geometry and material properties. investigation on the effects of these process factors to the appearance of a weld line was carried out using a finite element method. Filling and packing analyses were carried out by modifying both the configuration of the injection gates and cavity thickness. Proper locations of the injection gates could be determined by considering molding pressure, temperature, velocity and frozen layer, and whereby the weld line was controled. In order to make a weak appearance of the weld line, flow velocity and flow front in a cavity were also investigated by modifying a cavity thickness. As a result, flow front was extended around the corner in the cavity by changing the flow velocity and hence the appearance of the weld line was much weakened.

  • Powder injection molding(PIM) is widely used for many parts in the field of automotives, electronics and medical industries, due to the capability of net shaping for complex 3-D geometry. Powder injection mold design for the dental scaler tip, a component of medical appliance, was presented. In comparison with conventional machining process, powder injection molding has many advantages, specially in price and dimensional stability, for molding dental scaler tip which has complex geometry. Both product design and mold design for dental scaler tip were presented. A PIM feedstock was made of stainless series(17-4PH, 316L, 440C) powder and a wax based binder. The 'rapid mold' concept was applied to manufacture the various forms and materials of dental scaler tip including vibration characteristics.
