Experimental Study on implementation of injection molding process for speaker frame in LED TV (LED TV 스피커 프레임용 사출 성형공정 구현에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Injection molding process is one of the most important methods to produce plastic parts with high efficiency and low cost. The objective of this study is to implement the best plastic injection molding process for LED TV speaker frame. Moldflow analysis and simulation of plastic injection molding process were carried out in order to predict optimal modeling operation conditions and then injection molded part was produced various type of resin temperature, filling time and injection pressure variation. the result was that the best injection molding condition is set as 60bar pressure, 2sec filling time and $310^{\circ}C$ degree. The study result would be useful to variety of plastic injection molding process.

  • The residual birefringence in molded plastic parts can be divided into two kinds of residual birefringence, i.e., the flow induced residual birefringence produced in flowing stages and the thermally induced residual birefringence produced in cooling stage. In this paper, the effect of new injection-press molding process with normal injection mold, i.e. I) injection-compression mode, ii) injection-press mode, on the distribution of birefringence was studied. It was found that the values of the birefringence was reduced at i) low clamping force and ii) longer mold opening length by injection-press molding.

  • Injection molding process is one of the most important methods to produce plastic parts with high efficiency and low cost. Today, injection molded parts have been increased dramatically the demand for high strength and quality applications. In this study, In-line skates are made of Al alloy and plastic materials to replace the frame for the optimization process is all about. I interpreted through mold design, Injection molding process that minimizes the runner and the gate dimension will determine the size and shape. Runner and gate dimensions of change based on availability of the product, I'll discuss the injection molding. This report investigates that the optimum injection molding condition for minimum of shrinkage. The FEM Simulation CAE tool, Moldflow, is used for the analysis of injection molding process.

  • The application range of injection molded parts is expanding by the development of engineering plastics with good mechanical properties. Plastic products are specially used as automotive parts due to an excellent performance in the characteristics of a strength vs. weight. In this study, heating type of new method such as jet injection was applied to improve heat transfer coefficient is substituted for heating method of injection molding.

  • In injection molded parts, the ribs require more complicated mold cavities and cores. But it is necessary for the parts to attach the ribs for assembly, moldability and other functional purposes. To design them appropriately considering structural strength and injection molding, the profound knowledge that includes moldability, causal effects on the properties of the part is needed. This paper describes the design methodology which enables easy, simple, time and cost-effective design for the features.

An Experimental Study on the Warpage of a Film Insert Molded Plate (필름 인서트 사출성형 평판의 휨 변형에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • FIM(Film Insert Molding) is an innovative method of producing decorated parts for a wide range of products. Because it requires fewer steps when compared to conventional production methods, the time and cost of manufacturing high quality components can be reduced considerably. In this paper, the effects of processing conditions on the warpage of film-insert molded plate were investigated by using a design of experiments. The dominant factors affecting warpage were mold temperature and holding pressure. Warpage increased with the temperature difference between stationary mold and fixed one. Even when the mold temperature difference was zero, the plate with a film was bent after ejection such that the film side protruded. As holding pressure increased, warpage decreased significantly. In addition warpage increased with time increment for the film-insert molded plates.

Investigation on the Residual Stress Relaxation according to Annealing Condition for Transparent Injection Molded Part (투명한 사출성형품에서 어닐링 조건에 따른 잔류응력 이완에 관한 연구)

  • Residual stress is developed in the injection molded articles during the molding process due to temperature variation and shear stress. The residual stress causes the deformation and warpage in the injection molded parts shortly within several days or after several years. Therefore, the injection molding conditions should be optimized to reduce the residual stress. And residual stress in the part should be also relaxed after molding process to maintain its shape. According to the annealing conditions, such as relative humidity, temperature and time, this study investigates the relaxation of residual stress generated in the transparent injection molded specimens. Through the experimental results, it was realized that the residual stress was relaxed at a relative humidity higher than 50%. Utilizing photoelasticity equipment, it was found that the residual stress was rapidly relaxed near glass transition temperature. Additionally, we recognized that the specimen shrunk along the flow direction but expanded to the perpendicular direction of the flow during the annealing processes, which resulted in the warpage of the specimen.

Fabrication of electrical heating mold core and evaluation of injection-molded parts by various mold heating methods (전열을 이용한 금형가열코어의 제작 및 이를 이용한 성형품의 제조와 평가)

  • In this study we developed the electrical heating mold core by applying three different heating methods. In order to find out the optimal heating method, we observed the temperature profiles with time. We also injection-molded the parts by the heating methods and investigated the shrinkage ratio, density, surface roughness and weld-lines. The temperature rise time and cycle time showed the promising results for commercial applications(the rise time is $130^{\circ}C$/14sec, the cycle time is 55sec). By comparing with the conventional and gas flame heating method, the parts by this method were proven to have good qualities. The shrinkage ratio reduced by 5.1%, the density increase by 2.66%, the smoothness increased about 3 times, and the weld-line did not observed by naked eyes.

  • Injection molding is a very important industrial process for the manufacturing of plastics objects. During an injection molding process of composites, the fiber-matrix separation and fiber orientation are caused by the flow of molten polymer/fiber mixture. As a result, the product tends to be nonhomogeneous and anisotropic. Hence, it is very important to clarify the relations between separation· orientation and injection molding conditions. So far, there is no research on the measurement of fiber orientation using image processing. In this study, the effects of fiber content ratio and molding condition on the fiber orientation-angle distributions are studied experimentally. Using the image processing method, the fiber orientation distribution of weld-line parts in injection-molded products is assessed. And the effects of fiber content and injection molding conditions on the fiber orientation functions are also discussed

Design of Gate System in Injection Molding of a Dashboard by CAMPmold

  • Injection molding is widely used in producing various plastic parts due to its high productivity and the demand for high precision injection molded products is ever increasing. To achieve successful product quality and precision, the design of gating and runner systems in the injection mold is very important since it directly influences melt flow into the cavity. Some defects such as weld lines and overpacking can be effectively controlled with proper selection of gate locations. In the present study, the design of gate locations in injection molding of a dashboard for automobiles was carried out with CAMPmold, a PC-based simulation system for injection molding. A dummy runner was developed to simulate a runner system in order to increase the efficiency of the analysis. The numbers and locations of gates were varied in the present investigation as that an acceptable design was obtained in terms of reduced maximum pressure and clamping force.
