Network Pharmacology: Prediction of Astragalus Membranaceus' and Cornus Officinalis' Active Ingredients and Potential Targets to Diabetic Nephropathy (네트워크 약리학을 통한 당뇨병성 신병증에서의 황기와 산수유의 활성 성분 및 잠재 타겟 예측)

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the effects of macroscopic and integrative therapies by finding active ingredients, potential targets of Astragalus membranaceus (Am) and Cornus officinalis (Co) for diabetic nephropathy. We have constructed network pharmacology-based systematic and network methodology by system biology, chemical structure, chemogenomics. We found several active ingredients of Astragalus membranaceus (Am) and Cornus officinalis (Co) that were speculated to bind to specific receptors which had been known to have a role in the progression of diabetic nephropathy. Four components of Am and eleven components of Co could bind to iNOS; two ingredients of Am and six ingredients of Co could docking to cGB-PDE; one component of Am and nine components of Co could bind to ACE; three ingredients of Co with neprilysin; three components of Co with ET-1 receptor; four ingredients of Am and fourteen ingredients of Co with mineralocorticoid receptor; one component of Am and seven components of Co with interstitial collagenase; one ingredient of Am and ten ingredients of Co with membrane primary amine oxidase; one component of Am and four components of Co with JAK2; two ingredients of Am and one ingredient of Co with MAPK 12; one component of Am and five components of Co could docking to TGF-beta receptor type-1. From this work we could speculate that the possible mechanisms of Am and Co for diabetic nephropathy are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antihypertensive effects.

An Automatic Cosmetic Ingredient Analysis System based on Text Recognition Techniques (텍스트 인식 기법에 기반한 화장품 성분 자동 분석 시스템)

  • There are people who are sensitive to cosmetic ingredients, such as pregnant women and skin disease patients. There are also people who experience side effects from cosmetics. To avoid this, it is cumbersome to search for harmful ingredients in cosmetics one by one when shopping. In addition, knowing and remembering functional ingredients that suit you is helpful when purchasing new cosmetics. There is a need for a system that allows you to immediately know the cosmetics ingredients in the field through photography. In this paper, we introduce an application for smartphones, <Hwa Ahn>, which allows you to immediately know the cosmetics ingredients by photographing the ingredients displayed in the cosmetics. This system is more effective and convenient than the existing system in that it automatically recognizes and automatically classifies the ingredients of the cosmetic when the camera is illuminated on the cosmetic ingredients or retrieves the photos of the cosmetic ingredients from the album. If the system is widely used, it is expected that it will prevent skin diseases caused by cosmetics in daily life and reduce purchases of cosmetics that are not suitable for you.

Apparent digestibility coefficients of plant feed ingredients for olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus)

  • This study was designed to determine the apparent digestibility coefficients of soybean meal, soy protein concentrate (SPC), soy protein isolate (SPI), rapeseed meal (RSM), pea protein concentrate (PPC), wheat gluten meal (WGM) and wheat flour (WF) for olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus. A reference diet (RF) was formulated to meet the nutrient requirements of olive flounder with 1% chromic oxide (Cr2O3) as an inert indicator. Test diets were prepared to contain 70% RF and 30% of the test ingredient. Olive flounder, averaging 150 ± 8.0 g, was cultured in 400-L fiberglass tanks at a density of 25 fish per tank. Fecal collection columns were attached to each tank. Fecal samples were obtained from triplicate groups of fish for 4 weeks. Dry matter digestibility of SPC (75%) and WGM (76%) were significantly higher than the other test ingredients. Protein digestibility of SPC (85%), PPC (88%) and WGM (89%) were significantly higher than the other test ingredients, and protein digestibility of RSM (77%) and WF (76%) was lower than the other ingredients tested. Lipid digestibility of SPC (72%) and SPI (69%) were significantly higher than the other test ingredients. Energy digestibility of SPC (85%) and WGM (82%) were significantly higher than that of others tested ingredients. The availability of amino acids in WGM was generally higher than in other plant-feed ingredients. Therefore, SPC and WGM were seems to be efficient as potential protein sources for olive flounder compared to other tested ingredients. Overall, findings of the current study may assist in more efficient and economical formulation of diets using plant feed ingredients for olive flounder.

THE TRUE METABOLIZABLE ENERGY VALUES OF SOME SELECTED FEEDSTUFFS OF BANGLADESH

  • An experiment was conducted to measure the true metabolizable energy (TME) values of seven major poultry feed ingredients, two feed concentrates and one randomly collected layer mixed feed prepared from the available feed ingredients. The results of this study were the most thorough evaluation of the TME content of some selected common feed ingredients of Bangladesh. The observed TME values of some feed ingredients were very close to the values of different origins of feed ingredients. But the TME values measured in mixed layer feed were very low which could not support the standard requirement of laying birds. There values will be of assistance in describing the energy content of the most common available feed ingredients of Bangladesh.
