  • The surface of a naval ship emits infrared signature because it is mainly heated by the sun. In order to reduce infrared signature, it has been practiced to cool surface of the naval ship by using sea water. In this study, reduction effect of infrared signature was compared according to the parameters which affect emission of infrared signature in order to increase utility of sea water cooling. The analysis results by searching parameters, which can judge operation of sea water cooling, could be utilized as basic data for operation of the naval ship.

  • Using the AKARI mid-infrared all-sky survey catalogue, we are searching for debris disks which are important objects as an observational clue to on-going planetary system formation. Debris disk candidates are selected through a significant excess of the measured flux over the predicted flux for the stellar photospheric emission at $18{\mu}m$. The fluxes were originally estimated based on the near-infrared spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of central stars constructed from the 2MASS J-, H-, and Ks-band fluxes. However, we found that in many cases the 2MASS photometry has large errors due to saturation in the central part of a star image. Therefore we performed follow-up observations with the IRSF 1.4m near-infrared telescope in South Africa to obtain accurate fluxes in the J-, H-, and Ks-bands. As a result, we have succeeded in improving the SEDs of the central stars. This improvement of the SEDs allows us to make more reliable selection of the candidates.

  • This paper discusses a searching method for special markers attached with persons in a surveillance video stream. The marker is a small plate with infrared LEDs, which is called a spatiotemporal marker because it shows a 2-D sequential pattern synchronized with video frames. The search is based on the motion vectors which is the same as one in video compression. The experiments using prototype markers show that the proposed method is practical. Though the method is applicable to a video stream independently, it can decrease total computation cost if motion vector analyses of a video compression and the proposed method is unified.

  • Properties of ULIRGs (Ultra Luminous InfraRed Galaxies) are important to understand the cosmic star formation history. To investigate their properties up to z=0.3, we search for ULIRGs identified by using the AKARI/FIS Bright Source Catalogue and the WISE All-Sky catalog. By matching the AKARI $90{\mu}m$ catalogue with the WISE catalog, we selected 3,452 galaxies. Additionally, combined with the SDSS DR10 spectroscopic data, we selected 952 galaxies with spec-z. We then computed total infrared luminosities using SED fitting technique, and identified 31 ULIRGs, 561 LIRGs and 344 IRGs. For these galaxies, we found an indication that ULIRGs selected by AKARI change the SED shape with redshift (z = 0.1 - 0.3).

  • The absorption features due to interstellar ices, especially $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ ices, provide us with crucial information on present and past interstellar environments, and thus the evolutionary histories of galaxies. Before AKARI, however, few detections of ices were reported for nearby galaxies. The AKARI's unique capability of near-infrared spectroscopy with high sensitivity enables us to systematically study ices in nearby galaxies. Thus we have explored many near-infrared spectra ($2.5-5{\mu}m$) of the 211 pointed observations, searching for the absorption features of ices. As a result, out of 122 nearby galaxies, we have significantly detected $H_2O$ ice from 36 galaxies and $CO_2$ ice from 9 galaxies. It is notable that the ices are detected not only in late-type galaxies but also in early-type galaxies. We find that $CO_2$ ice is more compactly distributed near the galactic center than $H_2O$ ice. Finally, we suggest that the gas density of a molecular cloud and UV radiation may be important factors to determine the abundance of ices.

  • In this article, the design of a variable F-number and triple magnification infrared optical system is described. That is a two-in-one optical system that combines an infrared search and track (IRST) system and an electro-optical tracking system (EOTS), where an afocal optical system is added to the IRST optical system designed already. The performance target is determined by analyzing system performance, and then the specification in the optical system design is calculated. This optical system contains a warm stop making it possible that one optics has two different F/# by cutting the size of aperture, and that is designed to suit this optics. The system satisfies the requirement such as a modulation transfer function (MTF). For operational assessment, the movement of the focusing lens group is analyzed over the change of temperature and target distance. By using this optical system, it is possible to develop equipment having two functions, infrared searching and electro-optical tracking.

  • Recently introduced Mask R - CNN presents a conceptually simple, flexible, general framework for instance segmentation of objects. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for efficiently searching objects of images, while creating a segmentation mask of heat generation part for an instance which is a heating element in a heat sensed image acquired from a thermal infrared camera. This method called a mask R - CNN is an algorithm that extends Faster R - CNN by adding a branch for predicting an object mask in parallel with an existing branch for recognition of a bounding box. The mask R - CNN is added to the high - speed R - CNN which training is easy and fast to execute. Also, it is easy to generalize the mask R - CNN to other tasks. In this research, we propose an infrared image detection algorithm based on R - CNN and detect heating elements which can not be distinguished by RGB images. As a result of the experiment, a heat-generating object which can not be discriminated from Mask R-CNN was detected normally.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this review is to analyze the domestic study trends of clinical use of Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI) as a diagnosis instrument on obstetrics and gynecological diseases in Korean literature. Methods: We searched for clinical studies using DITI in the journal of Korean obstetrics & gynecology, National Digital Science Library, Research Information Sharing Service, Korean Medical Database up to May 2020. After searching studies, we selected studies and analyzed according to disease. Results: 18 clinical studies were published in two kinds of academic journals. There were 4 studies about dysmenorrhea and menopausal symptoms, 2 studies about postpartum disease and hypercryalgesia, 1 study about amenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, leukorrhea, infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome and hot flush. Conception vessel was frequently used for DITI measurement, followed by stomach meridian. The temperatures of abdomen (CV4, CV12), face (HN3), upper and lower limb (PC8, LU4, LR3, ST32) were commonly measured. Conclusions: This study shows that DITI could be one of effective diagnosis instrument for obstetrics and gynecological diseases. More well-designed clinical studies using DITI will be needed.

  • Wearing face masks is an effective measure to prevent COVID-19 infection. Infrared thermal image based temperature measurement and identity recognition system has been widely used in many large enterprises and universities in China, so it is totally necessary to research the face mask detection of thermal infrared imaging. Recently introduced MTCNN (Multi-task Cascaded Convolutional Networks)presents a conceptually simple, flexible, general framework for instance segmentation of objects. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for efficiently searching objects of images, while creating a segmentation of heat generation part for an instance which is a heating element in a heat sensed image acquired from a thermal infrared camera.
