  • In Korea Telecom, many synchronous optical transmission equipments and its operating terminal (PC) have been operated. However, many equipment operators have requested various supplementary functions such as self-monitoring and taking statistical information. This system has tried to solve the above problems, and therefore to establish centralized monitoring system on synchronous transmission equipments based on telephone office unit.

  • High-speed harmonic optical modulation-demodulation schemes are presented and a possibility of the schemes for applying to high-speed light wave transmission system is tested at microwave frequency range. An example of this concept is as follows : Light wave is modulated succeedingly through cascaded optical modulators by a sub-carrier to produce a modulated light wave at harmonic frequency which is higher than the feasible frequency of the individual modulators. For demodulation of the base-band signal, the high frequency optical sub-carrier is down-converted by the same kind of optical modulator with the same concept of harmonic modulation.

  • An exact solution of the lossy linear tapered transmission line is derived. As its application, a simple design method of the quasi non-distortion lossy linear tapered transmission line in the time domain is described. A design example is presented to show the validity and usefulness of the method.

  • Audio watermarking is the process of embedding inaudible information in an audio signal and has been widely used for copyright protection. In this research, we use the audio watermarking not for copyright protection but for the transmission of side information for user convenience, presenting an algorithm suitable for this purpose. Our new algorithm includes watermark embedding/extraction methods during acoustic transmission through the air that employ energy modulation of the audio signal and an efficient two-step synchronization method. The proposed algorithm is evaluated in experiments of conveying information from audio speakers to a mobile phone. The results show that reliable transmission is possible within a 5m range, which is an improvement achieved by our algorithm as compared to the existing one.

  • Mobile Device-to-Device (D2D) caching networks can transmit multimedia data to users directly without passing through any network infrastructure by storing popular multimedia contents in advance that are popular among many mobile users at caching server devices (CSDs) in distributed manners. Thus, mobile D2D caching networks can significantly reduce backhaul traffic in wired networks and service latency time of mobile users. In this paper, we propose an efficient transmission scheme that can enhance the transmission efficiency of mobile D2D caching networks by using multiple CSDs that are caching the contents that are popular among mobile users. By sorting the multiple CSDs that are caching a content that mobile users want to receive according to their channel gains, the proposed scheme can reduce the complexity of algorithm significantly, compared to an optimal scheme based on Brute-force searching, and can also obtain much higher network transmission efficiency than the existing Blanket and Opportunistic transmission schemes.

  • DDS middleware transmits data packets through unicast or multicast method for discovering endpoints on a distributed network and exchanging information between endpoints. Depending on the communicating situation between endpoints, the transmission method which is used to exchange packets is already defined by the standard protocol. However, the predefined usage of the transmission method has a problem that the middleware does not deal with increasing usage of the system resources properly when the configuration of endpoint is changed dynamically. To solve this problem, we propose the scheme of selecting the packet transmission method in an adaptive manner.
