  • GIS can only be applied to certain areas by storing format. It is subordinate to a system when displaying geographic information data. It is therefore inevitable for GIS to use GML that supports efficient usage of various geographic information data and interoperability for integration and sharing. The paper constructs VisualGML that translates currently-used geographic information such as DXF (Drawing Exchange Format), DWG (DraWinG), or SHP (Shapefile) into GML format for visualization. VisualGML constructs an integrated map pre-process module, which filters geographic information data according to its tag and properties, to provide the flexibility of a mobile device. VisualGML also provides two major GIS services for the user and administrator. It can enable visualizing location search. This is applied with a 3-Layer POI structure for the user. It has trace monitoring visualization through moving information of mobile devices for the administrator.

  • The construction of data connection is required due to the digital map do not have the new address data which is implemented by the Korea government and it cannot use between government and other agency. The manually matching of digital map and new address data is time and money consuming process due to the huge amount of data. In this research, new system is developed for data generation of attribute data by the data connection method of digital map and new address data using spatial matching and matching rate of data connection is analyses. The results of data matching rate in the research area are 84% in building case and 67% in road case in 1:1000 digital map at Suwon and 18% in building case and 21% in road at Seogwipo.

  • The study is to systematically review "DaedongYeojiJeondo", the mid-sized wood block map of Chosun to shed light on the cartographic characteristics not discovered by previous studies. First it was discovered that Kim Jung-ho is the developer of the map as the distance information from Seoul to towns is identical with the information on "Daedong Jiji" the manuscript map drawn by Kim Jung-ho himself (assumed to live from 1804~1866) that is still remaining unfinished. Second, the information Kim Jung-ho wanted to specify most precisely and specifically was distance from Seoul to towns and for this purpose he invented unique symbols for towns in tiny size on the map. Third, in selecting information to mark on the map including road network, street information, mountain routes and streams and location of islands, "DaedongYeojiJeondo" is not just a simple smaller copy of "DaedongYeojido" but an independent creative work as it is much different in many aspects of quality. Forth, but still "DaedongYeojiJeondo" and "DaedongYeojido" have something in common in the fact both of them tried to mark land and mountain routes and streams most precisely and specifically.

  • Mobility Anchor Points are used for the mobility management in HMIPv6 networks. Currently a mobile node selects the MAP farthest away from itself as a new MAP among available candidates when it undertakes a macro handoff. With this technique, however, the traffic tends to be concentrated at a MAP with the largest domain size and the communication cost increases due to the distance between the mobile node and the MAP. In this work, we proposed a cost effective MAP selection scheme. When leaving the current MAP domain. the mobile node calculates the optimum MAP domain size to minimize the local mobility cost at the new MAP domain considering mobile node's velocity and packet transmission rate. The mobile node then selects a MAP domain of size close to the optimum domain size calculated among the candidate MAP domains. In this way, it is possible for the mobile node to select an optimal MAP adaptively taking the network and node states into account, thus reducing the communication cost.

  • The damage of natural disasters has occurred on huge scale more frequently than before. The damage caused by the disasters are summarized and are analyzed, and are managed as a very general type of documentation, not showing the position of previous damage records and related information such as weather, facilities of CCTV, hospitals, and gas station on the maps. Therefore, it needs to provide map-based searching systems considering damaged area as well as search key-words. This paper focuses on the development of a search system based on the map to manage previous disaster records and related information each disaster using spatial databases. This system consists of three modules, which are databases to store disaster data, the SQL procedure-based search module to extract needed information from the constructed databases, and the map module to express the search results on the map. This paper will contribute to provide framework of a system development for managing the disaster information according to each year and disaster based on the maps and to be utilized as the basic framework in developing damage prediction and prevention systems for disasters in future.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel position accuracy enhancement method of a low-end GPS using digital map information. The latest digital map has various kinds of information on geographical features. The proposed method uses position information of lane marks among the geographical features. We define the position information of lane marks as the reference points. The position information of a low-end GPS acquired for a period of time is defined as the source points. In the proposed method, rotation and translation matrices between the reference and the source points are calculated by using an Iterative Closest Point(ICP) algorithm. The source points are transformed by the obtained rotation and translation matrices. Finally, the transformed source points are projected on the reference points. Through these processes, the position accuracy of a low-end GPS is ultimately enhanced. To verify the proposed method, the various real experimental results are presented.

  • A schematic map is a special purpose map which is generated to recognize it's objects easily and conveniently via simplifying and highlighting logical geometric information of a map. To manufacture the schematic map with road, label and icon, we must generate simplified route map and replace many geometric objects. Performing a give task, however, there are an amount of overlap areas between geometric objects whenever we process the replacement of geometry objects. Therefore we need replacing geometric objects without overlap. But this work requires much computational resources, because of the high complexity of the original geometry map. We propose the schematic map generation system whose map consists of icons and label. The proposed system has following steps: 1) eliminating kinks that are least relevant to the shape of polygonal curve using DCE(Discrete Curve Evolution) method. 2) making an evenly distributed route using CVT(Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation) and Grid snapping method. Therefore we can keep the structural information of the route map from CVT method. 3) replacing an icon and label information with collision avoidance algorithm. As a result, we can replace the vertices with a uniform distance and guarantee the available spaces for the replacement of icons and labels. We can also minimize the overlap between icons and labels and obtain more schematized map.

  • Localization is the process of aligning the robot's local coordinates with the global coordinates of a map. A mobile robot's location is basically computed by a dead reckoning scheme, but this position information becomes increasingly inaccurate during navigation due to odometry errors. In this paper, the method of building a map of a robot's environment using ultrasonic sensor data and the occupancy grid map scheme is briefly presented. Then, the search and matching algorithms to compensate for the odometry error by comparing the local map with the reference map are proposed and verified by experiments. It is shown that the compensated error is not accumulated and exists within the limited range.

  • In this paper, a fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system with high reliability is proposed. For fault-tolerance, the LLC sublayer, MAC sublayer, and physical layer of the Mini-MAP system are dualized. The detection of faults, the replacement of the failed network, and the management of the network are three major functions required for the dualization, and they are performed by ESM(Error Supervisory Machine), EMM(Error Management Machine), and NMM(Network Management Machine) of the proposed fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system, respectively. The ring maintenance function of the MAC sublayer is used for the detection of the faults. In the proposed fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system, the data are received from both of the dualized networks and transmitted to the selected one of the two. We analyze the reliability and the MTTF(Mean Time To Failure) of the proposed fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system and show that it has better performance compared to a general Mini-MAP system.

  • The study is aimed at extraction of the groundwater potential area using the Geographic Information System. The study was to develop techniques of the thematic mapping such as slope map, geologic map, soil map and suitability mapping for grotential area. There thematic maps were combined and weightages were given to produce suitability map for groundwater potential area. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The 78% of cased wells have releation to lineament coincided with the appraisement point of the suitability map. 2) The 9 sites of 18 test sites produced over than 200 m$^3$/day. The with the highest appraisement point of the suitability map. 3) Suitability map is effective to extract groundwater potential area which can not be extracted from the remotely sensed data. The developed suitability mapping techniques are expected to do as an important tool for exploration and development of the newable and unnewable resources such as groundwater, petroleum etc.
