  • This study analyzed the information factors which determine cash liquidity in Korean export-oriented companies. In this paper, cash liquidity means the ratio of the value of cash or cash equivalent to the asset value subtracted marketable securities value from total asset value. The empirical test shows that main information factors are the size of company, the growth opportunity of company, the volatility of operating cash flows and free cash flows, the credit yield spread of company, the debt ratio, the turnover ratio of cash flows and free cash flows, and the estimate of bankruptcy that amounts to the inverse number of Z score. In summary, the size of company, debt ratio, turnover ratio of cash flows and free cash flows, and Z-score have negative influence on the cash liquidity of Korean export-oriented companies. but the volatility of operating cash flows affect the cash liquidity positively.

  • Not only can air pollution reduce the overall competitiveness of tourist destinations, but also changes tourists' travel decisions, thereby affecting the tourism flows. The study presents a machine learning method to analyze how the haze pollution puts spatial effect on tourism flows in China from 2001 to 2018, and reveals the regional differences in heterogeneity among eastern, central, and western China. Our investigation reveals three interesting observations. First, the Environmental Kuznets Curve of the impact of haze pollution on tourism flows is not significant. In the eastern and western regions, the interaction between haze pollution and domestic tourism flows as well as inbound tourism flows shows an inverted U-shaped curve respectively. Second, there is an significantly positive spillover effect of tourism flows in all of the eastern, central, and western regions. As to the intensity of spillover, domestic tourism flows is higher than that of the inbound tourism flows. Both of the above figures are greatest in the eastern. Third, the Chinese haze pollution mainly reduces the inbound tourism flows, and only imposes significantly negative direct effects on the domestic tourism flows in the central region. In the central and eastern regions, significantly negative direct effects and spillover effects are exerted on inbound tourism.

  • We proposed a scheme to accurately detect elephant flows. Along the ever increasing traffic trend, certain flows occupy the network heavily in terms of time and network bandwidth. These flows are called elephant flows. Elephant flows raises complicated issues to manage for Internet traffics and services. One of the methods to identify elephant flows is the Landmark LRU cache scheme, which improved the previous method of Least Recently Used scheme. We proposed a cache update algorithm, to further improve the existing Landmark LRU. The proposed scheme improves the accuracy to detect elephant flow while maintaining efficiency of Landmark LRU. We verified our algorithm by simulating on Sangmyung University's wireless real network traces and evaluated the improvement.

  • The fixed points of two known gradient flows defined on adjoint orbits of orthogonal groups are analyzed through the critical point analysis of the potential functions. The results show that some known properties of these gradient flows are shared with the gradient flows of the same potential functions with respect to other metrics.

  • To support UDP-based real-time multimedia applications over the Internet, it is necessary to provide a certain amount of bandwidth within the network so that the performance of the applications will not be seriously affected during periods of congestion. Since the flow rates of some of these applications do not back of during periods of congestion, it is also necessary to protect flow-controlled TCP flows from unresponsive or aggressive UDP flows. To achieve these goals, we propose a simple queue policy to support multimedia applications, called threshold-based queue management (TBQM). TBQM isolates UDP flows efficiently from TCP flows to protect TCP flows while supporting bandwidth requirements of UDP applications that require QoS. In addition, TBQM supports drop fairness between TCP flows without maintaining per-flow state. We also present some experimental results to show that the proposed queue policy can work well.

  • We analyze the systemic risk based on the information flows using the variance decomposition, DebtRank methods, and the Industry Sector Indices during 2001. 01 to 2015. 08. Using the KOSPI stock market as our setting, we find that (i) the systemic risk calculated by information flows of variance decompositions method shows strong positive relations with the market volatility, (ii) the magnitude of systemic risk measured from the information flows network by DebtRank method increases after the subprime financial crisis.

  • Recently, the information visualization research community has given significant attention to graph visualization, especially visualization of social networks. However, visualization of information flows in a very large social network has not been studied in depth. However, information flows are tightly related to the structure of social networks and it shows dynamic behavior of interactions between members of social networks. Thus, we can get much useful information about social networks from information flows. In this paper, we present our research result that enables users to navigate a very large social network in Google Maps' method and to take a look at information flows on the network. To this end, we devise three techniques; (i) mapping a very large social network to a 2-dimensional graph layout, (ii) exploring the graph to all directions with zooming it in/out, and (iii) building an efficient query processing framework. With these methods, we can visualize very large social networks and information flows in a limited display area with a limited computing resources.

  • When natural disasters occur, including earthquakes, tsunamis, and debris flows, they are often accompanied by various types of damages such as the collapse of buildings, broken bridges and roads, and the destruction of natural scenery. Natural disaster detection and warning is an important issue which could help to reduce the incidence of serious damage to life and property as well as provide information for search and rescue afterwards. In this study, we propose a novel computer vision technique for debris flow detection which is feature-based that can be used to construct a debris flow event warning system. The landscape is composed of various elements, including trees, rocks, and buildings which are characterized by their features, shapes, positions, and colors. Unlike the traditional methods, our analysis relies on changes in the natural scenery which influence changes to the features. The "background module" and "monitoring module" procedures are designed and used to detect debris flows and construct an event warning system. The multi-criteria decision-making method used to construct an event warring system includes gradient information and the percentage of variation of the features. To prove the feasibility of the proposed method for detecting debris flows, some real cases of debris flows are analyzed. The natural environment is simulated and an event warning system is constructed to warn of debris flows. Debris flows are successfully detected using these two procedures, by analyzing the variation in the detected features and the matched feature. The feasibility of the event warning system is proven using the simulation method. Therefore, the feature based method is found to be useful for detecting debris flows and the event warning system is triggered when debris flows occur.

  • This dissertation measures transitory items using earnings change scaled by beginning-of-period price(FreemanㆍTse 1992) and the earnings-to-price ratio(AliㆍZarowin 1992). Contextual regression model results confirm the incremental explanatory power for predominantly permanent earnings, and suggest that cash flows also have incremental explanatory power in the presence of predominantly permanent earnings. But contextual regression results represent that while earnings are consistent with a smaller marginal impact from extreme (transitory) earnings on abnormal returns, cash flows have no greater impact on abnormal returns in the presence of large transitory components in earnings.

  • Traffic classification is an essential task for network management. Many researchers have paid attention to initial sub-flow features based classifiers for traffic classification. However, the existing classifiers cannot classify traffic effectively in mobile IP networks. The classifiers depend on initial sub-flows, but they cannot always capture the sub-flows at a point of attachment for a variety of elements because of seamless mobility. Thus the ideal classifier should be capable of traffic classification based on not only initial sub-flows but also various types of sub-flows. In this paper, we propose a classifiable sub-flow selection method to realize the ideal classifier. The experimental results are so far promising for this research direction, even though they are derived from a reduced set of general applications and under relatively simplifying assumptions. Altogether, the significant contribution is indicating the feasibility of the ideal classifier by selecting not only initial sub-flows but also transition sub-flows.
