This study examined librarians' perceptions of Information Commons(I.C.), user's information seeking behaviors, and new role of library in the digital ages. Interviews with 28 librarians found that the perceptions of the librarians were widely differed depending on their understandings of the nature of the space. The interview results were divided into three different categories of librarians: the librarians; 1) understanding library as a place only with academic functions, 2) library as academic place along with multi-cultural functions, and 3) library as open learning space with focus on creativity and discovery of users. The findings also indicated that all these perceptions are closely related to understanding of the role of library and its future development.

To measure the state of instructional programs in school libraries revitalized by the MEST project, teacher-librarians who are members of a provincial library education research committee were asked to respond to a survey and phone interview. The results illustrate that both teacher-librarians and classroom teachers lack a comprehensive understanding of information literacy(IL), and that information literacy instruction(ILI) was implemented in less than half of the surveyed schools. Even in those schools where ILI was implemented, the curriculum was underdeveloped, frequently consisting of little more than basic library orientation programs. The lack of understanding regarding ILI by classroom teachers was specified as a major barrier.

Current image retrieval techniques have shortcomings that make it difficult to search for images based on a semantic understanding of what the image is about. Since an image is normally associated with multiple contexts (e.g. when and where a picture was taken,) the knowledge of these contexts can enhance the quantity of semantic understanding of an image. In this paper, we present a context-aware image retrieval system, which uses the context information to infer a kind of metadata for the captured images as well as images in different collections and databases. Experimental results show that using these kinds of information can not only significantly increase the retrieval accuracy in conventional content-based image retrieval systems but decrease the problems arise by manual annotation in text-based image retrieval systems as well.

The Semantic Web is an evolving extension of the WWW in which the semantics of information and services on the web is defined, making it possible for the web to understand and satisfy the requests of people and machines to use the web content. The sementic web relied on the ontologies that structure underling data for the purpose of comprehensive and transportable machine understanding. And recommendation systems have been developed as a solution to the abundance of choice people face in many situations. This paper shows that the new recommendation method is suitable for effective recommendation on the semantic web. We present a new procedure for improving the effective recommendation by using the levelized context ontology. Our experimental results also confirm that our method has good recommendation time. Our proposed method can be generalized to fit other application domains.

Currently on the school education site, various multimedia contents are used to effectively deliver knowledge to the students and increase interest in class. The majority of the multimedia contents currently used in classes are composed of visual and auditory information. This paper intends to maximize actuality and immersion in the content by adding olfactory information to the existing visual and auditory data. Tangible contents were developed based on the details of aromatic plants learned in the fifth grade of elementary school. The shape and explanation of the aromatic plants are displayed with visual and auditory information, and an aroma spraying application is used to allow the students to smell the aromatic plants. After conducting the class using the developed contents, the students' satisfaction of the class, as well as their overall academic understanding, were investigated. Upon doing so, it was discovered that the students' academic understanding and satisfaction increased in comparison to classes comprised of only visual and auditory contents.

While information technology(IT) users' behaviors has been considered one of the most important research topics and studied in very many ways, 'non-use' has not been focused as a research topic. However, understanding non-use provides new insights for analyzing and understanding the essential nature of IT uses with wider frames and more qualitative dimension. The objective of this study is to provide some guidelines for studying non-use. For this purpose, the previous studies for non-use were reviewed focusing on resistance, suggested potential research issues and some research methodologies based on grounded theory.

Although Enterprise Systems (ES) have promised major strategic benefits and process improvements from business and technology integration, their implementation has been plagued by a high failure rate and difficulty in realizing the promised benefits. For the purpose of understanding implementation failures, previous studies have focused on identifying critical success factors (CSFs) for information systems implementation. However, there has been little research on how these CSFs actually lead to successful results. In this study, based on process theory, we examined the process of ES implementation by explaining how the factors of ES implementation influence each other and how interaction among them produces results. Based on a failure case, we then developed a process model of ES implementation thus allowing us to explain the process of ES implementation. The proposed model facilitated an understanding of how repeating patterns of ES failure can be reversed. This model can be used for guiding new ES implementation projects.

We introduce a vision-based hand gesture recognition fer understanding musical time and patterns without extra special devices. We suggest a simple and reliable vision-based hand gesture recognition having two features First, the motion-direction code is proposed, which is a quantized code for motion directions. Second, the conducting feature point (CFP) where the point of sudden motion changes is also proposed. The proposed hand gesture recognition system extracts the human hand region by segmenting the depth information generated by stereo matching of image sequences. And then, it follows the motion of the center of the gravity(COG) of the extracted hand region and generates the gesture features such as CFP and the direction-code finally, we obtain the current timing pattern of beat and tempo of the playing music. The experimental results on the test data set show that the musical time pattern and tempo recognition rate is over 86.42% for the motion histogram matching, and 79.75% fer the CFP tracking only.

For assessing the capability of a process, the quantification of process location and variation is central to understanding the quality of units produced from the manufacturing process. Conventional process capability indices is insufficient to drive out the information for process condition, furthermore it is very difficult to evaluate the process capability accurately when the target value is not consistent with the center of specification, and/or the shape of distribution is changed, but the process incapability indices is enable to provide more detailed information to evaluate the process capability by dividing information about the process mean and variance. In this paper, we have a brief review and comparison about these indices, provide an understanding of the relationships between the process capability indices and the incapability indices. And we explore the strengths and weakness of these indices as they apply to normally distributed process, and to examine the effect that non-normality has on these indices.

As social media draws attention as a business tool, organizations, large or small, are trying to exploit social media in their business. However, lack of understanding the characteristics of each social media led them to develop a naive strategy for dealing with social media. Thus, this study aims to deepen the understanding by comparatively analyzing how social media users perceive (the image of) each social media. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogs, Communities and Cyworld were chosen for our study and data from 132 respondents were analyzed using multidimensional scaling technique. The results show that there are meaningful differences in users' perception of social media attributes, which are grouped into four; information feature, motivation, promotion tool, usability. It is also analyzed whether such differences can be found between male and female users. (Such differences are also analyzed in both male and female users' perceptions.) Further, we discuss some implications of the research results for both practitioners and researchers.
