The Current Status of Elementary School Students' Information Dysfunction and the Information & Communication Ethics Education - focus on 5th & 6th graders in Chungbuk area - (초등학생의 정보화 역기능과 정보통신윤리교육 실태 -충북지역 5.6학년 학생들을 중심으로-)

  • Although Internet provides a lot of convenience such as easy accessibility, interactivity, concurrency, openness, subsequent dysfunction causes serious problems. Especially elementary school students are indiscriminately exposed to the problems, and thus information communication ethics education is needed for the students. This study conducted a survey with randomly selected 5th and 6th graders in Chungbuk area, and analyzed 'students' experience and perception related to information dysfunction' and 'their experience and perception related to information & communication ethics education at school'. In addition, for the detailed understanding of students' current status and accompanying instructional approach, an additional analysis was conducted to examine the existence of the difference according to students' gender and grade. As a result, significant differences were found according to students' gender and grade in their experience and perception related to the information dysfunction and information & communication ethics education. Considering such differences according to students' gender and grade, appropriate instructional approach needs to be prepared to satisfy students' needs for more effective information & communication ethics education.

The Adverse Effects of Education Using Smart Devices on Students (스마트 기기 활용교육이 학생에게 미치는 역기능)

  • It is known that the smart education has a positive impact of critical thinking skills and problem solving, communication and collaboration, creativity and innovation in the 21st century. However, some people concern about the adverse effects of smart education such as smart devices addiction and health problems. In this study, we conducted the adverse effects of education using smart devices on students. The questionnaire survey was conducted and analyzed for students in 9 schools at A city(four elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools) that are receiving smart education. The types of adverse effects of smart education includes smartphone addiction, lack of information ethics, health problems, and lack of social and learning ability. We showed the differences each item compared among elementary school, middle school and high school about adverse effects of smart education. The result of survey didn't have any adverse affect of smart education such as internet addiction or smartphone addiction. However in order to protect the copyright, the school needs to fight against indiscriminated downloads and perform the information ethics education. Plus we surely need to be more open-minded in reading and exercise at school and home.

  • Computer education currently executed at elementary schools showed problems of system of education curriculum, repetition, and lack of consistent system as a result of analyzing index for information and communication technology, education curriculum, and related literatures, and most of the education contents have difficulty to nurture logic thinking and problem-solving ability since they are composed mainly of software function learning. Concerning this issue, this study suggests an innovated computer education curriculum with reinforced information ethics field with computer principle, algorithm, and programming, in other words, a corrected and supplemented version of former content system based on computer science guidance cases of ACM education curriculum model of USA, computer education curriculum of state Tennessee, and information technology education curriculum of Great Britain judging that introduction of computer science factors are desperate to improve computer education curriculum in elementary schools.
