The purpose of this study was identifying the user needs for the planning of public space in apartment dwelling units. 298 apartment residents in Haeundae, Pusan responded to the structural questionnaire, which included the residents' satisfaction for the location and size of the living room, the kitchen and the dining room, the space usage of the living room and the dining room, and preferred layout of the public space. The main findings are as follows. 1) The important household characteristics to consider are identified as family life cycle and the number of family members. 2) The levels of residents' satisfaction were differed by the household characteristics and the types of apartment. 3) Activities related to recreation, entertainment, and family meals in living room and formal and informal entertainments in the dining room were occurred in different way as to the household characteristics and the types of apartment. 4) The younger families in the smaller sized apartments had more diverse preference to the layout of the public space.

This survey study aims to explore the school area standards for elementary, middle and high schools. Traditionally the school site has been recognized as a space of teaching and learning for students. Though its functions and needs have recently been changing from the areas for physical education and training to for various activities such as recreation, play, communication, informal and social areas etc. Moreover the school site is also a critical component of community life. Many communities have a significant shortfall in the amount of park and open space land available and accessible for use. In this viewpoint the standards of school facilities should develop a comprehensive approach to insure that students and residents are provided the opportunity to engage in appropriate types and amounts of everyday's activities during the school day and after school. In doing so, it surveys the school areas of the existing schools and the new schools built in Dongtan City. Finally, it points out the problems of government's regulation for school facilities and proposes the adequate directions for school area standards. This study would help to plan the optimum size of school area and ground and the reasonable expenditure for school facilities.

The purpose of this research was to investigate and analyse the internal structural organisation of UK's urban fringe management initiatives and its roles. Caerphilly Mountain Countryside Service and Thames Chase Community Forest Initiatives were investigated. The Caerphilly Mountain Countryside Service Initiative operates through a tiered structure consisting of the Caerphilly Mountain Joint Committee, the Officers' Working Party, and the management team. The Thames Chase Community Forest Initiative is operated through a tiered structure comprising the Thames Chase Joint Committee and the management team. Although the role of each management initiative is invested differently in certain internal organisational bodies, such as the governance body and the management body, what is common to all the urban fringe management initiatives is that the governance body within each management initiative tries to speak with one voice to bring about an effective operation process, and the management team employs a variety of devices to secure the enrolment of a variety of interest groups in its operational processes.
