  • This experiment was carried out to study the effects of planting density and amount of fertilizer applied on the morphological, physiological and physical characteristics of barley culm. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Heavy application of fertilizer increased the diameter of the inside and outside thickness of culm, dry weight per unit culm, culm length, spike weight and number of per hill. 2. Thined planting density increased lodging resistance. But lodging resistance in sparse-planted plot of$20{\times}$ 20cm was almost the same as that in the plot of $15{\times}$ 15cm. 3. In the heavy fertilized plot weight of culm at breaking, bending moment of culm atbreaking, secondary moment of inertia and section modulus increased more than those in the standard fertilized one. As a result heavy application of fertilizer gave high lodging resistance. On the other hand thined planting density increased the above-mentioned physical characters of culm. 4. In the case of dense planting lodging index became higher in standard fertilized plot, but in the case of sparse planting over 10 x 10cm there were no significant differences in lodging index as affected by amount of fertilizer applied and planting density. 5. Grain yield was increased by heavy application of fertilizer and proper planting density was $5{\times}$ 5cm or $10{\times}$10cm for the safe maximum yield.

  • In this paper, an algorithm to classify the 4 motions of arm and a control system to position control the prosthesis are studied. To classify the 4 motions, we use flex sensors which is electrical resistance type sensor that can measure warp of muscle. The flex sensors are attached to the biceps brchii muscle and coracobrachialis muscle and the sensor signals are passed the sensing system. 4 motion of the forearm - flexion and extension, the pronation and supination are classified from this. Also position of forearm is measured from the classified signals. Finally, A two D.O.F prosthesis arm with RC servo-motor is designed to verify the validity of the algorithm. At this time, fuzzy controller is used to reduce the position error by rotary inertia and noise. From the experiment, the position error had occurred within about 5 degree.

  • This study suggests that lifelong education is regarded as a support system for lifelong learning, which includes all activities of educational characteristics, which ultimately has the goal of universalization of self - education. The goal is to successfully adapt to life. Statements supporting the need for lifelong learning have been found to be based primarily on the impossibility of this system to provide sufficient education to accelerate social change and to last a lifetime. The obstacles to implementation included inertia, resistance to change, motivation and cost. Opponents are likely to regard lifelong education as an attempt to expand compulsory education for exploitation and control purposes. This study found that there is an important consensus among supporters, but many questions remain. The full feasibility of lifelong education is considered to be far removed, and lifelong education should be interpreted as a source of direction and purpose, and ideals that society should aim for.

  • This paper presents the results of shaking table tests on a 1:5 scale 10-story R.C. wall-type residential building model. The following conclusions are drawn based on the test results. (1) The model responded linear elastically under the excitations simulating an earthquake with a return period of 50 years, and showed a nonlinear response under the excitations simulating the design earthquake of Korea. (2) The model showed a significant strength drop under the maximum considered earthquake, with a return period of 2400 years. (3) The major portion of the resistance to lateral inertia forces came from the walls used for the elevator and stair case. (4) Finally, the damage and failure modes appear to be due to the flexural behavior of walls and slabs. A significant deterioration of stiffness and an elongation of the fundamental periods were observed under increased earthquake excitations.

  • Columns are the key elements supporting load in structure. Column failure causes the structure to collapse. It is important to evaluate residual strength for damaged columns under blast load for preventing progressive collapse. In this paper, columns were investigated to compare the blast resistance on the change of the number of steel bars within the range of reinforcement ratio. And this study was carried out 4 different analytical models to evaluate effects of aspect ratio. The results indicate that the vertical strain was unaffected by the number of steel bars and aspect ratio. As the number of steel bars facing blast load increase, the blast resisting capacity of the columns was improved in the lateral strain. Also, the analysis results showed that a large moment of inertia of area, as compared to a small one would be superior in residual strength as well as force of restitution.

  • A submerged body is sensitive to changes in the roll moment because of the small restoring moment and moment of inertia. Thus, a method for predicting the roll-related hydrodynamic coefficients is important. This paper describes a deduction method for the hydrodynamic coefficients based on the results of a coning motion test. A resistance test, static drift test, and coning motion test were performed to obtain the coefficients in the towing tank of Seoul National University. The sum of the hydrodynamic force, inertial force, gravity, and buoyancy was measured in the coning motion test. The hydrodynamic force was deduced by subtracting the inertial force, gravity, and buoyancy from the measured force. The hydrodynamic coefficients were deduced using the regression method.

  • The various function of the cardiovascular system(CVS) and the dynamic characteristics on each part of human body can be acquired in the electric analog circuit model. According to the performed outcome by other researchers, viscos resistance, flow inertia, and vascular compliance in the CVS are analogous to resister, inductor, and capacitor in electric circuit, so the CVS models were represented by the electric circuit models. these approaches were to propose the suitable models interest part of body and to simulate the various characteristics on the CVS. In this paper, the electric circuit model considering the characteristics of morphologic structure is represented, the parameter values of model is sotted up, and the dynamic characteristics of the the CVS is simulated using VisSim, one of the simulation tools. The observed simulation results are similar to the cardiovascular functions of nomal adults who have no heart failure. Besides, the simulation is operated to observe the pathophysiological abnomal symptoms(for example, bleeding within a certain period). The controller by baroreceptor, which is one of controllers to control the CVS, is appended in the model. and the dynamic response characteristics and the procedure to return normal state is observed in simulation when the bleeding last within a certain period.

  • Orthogonal pairs of rollers on concave beds (OPRCB) are a low-cost, low-tech rolling-based isolating system, whose high efficiency has been shown in a previous study. However, seismic performance of OPRCB isolators has only been studied in the two-dimensional (2D) state so far. This is while their performance in the three-dimensional (3D) state differs from that of the 2D state, mainly since the vertical accelerations due to rollers' motion in their beds, simultaneously in two orthogonal horizontal directions, are added up and resulting in bigger vertical inertia forces and higher rolling resistance. In this study, first, Lagrange equations were used to derive the governing equations of motion of the OPRCB-isolated buildings in 3D. Then, some regular shear-type OPRCB-isolated buildings were considered subjected to three-component excitations of far- and near-source earthquakes, and their responses were compared to those of their fixed-base counterparts. Finally, the effects of more realistic modeling and analysis were examined by comparing the responses of isolated buildings in 2D and 3D states. Response histories were obtained by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta-Nystrom method, considering the geometrical nonlinearity of isolators. Results reveal that utilizing the OPRCB isolators effectively reduces the acceleration response, however, depending on the system specifications and earthquake characteristics, the maximum responses of isolated buildings in the 3D state can be up to 40% higher than those in the 2D state.

  • The aim of this study is to survey the effects of laying drainage layer in sandy beach on beach stabilization. At first, the numerical model developed by Hur and Lee (2007), which is able to consider the flow through a porous medium with inertia, laminar and turbulent resistance terms, i.e. simulate directly WAve Structure Seabed/Sandy beach interaction and can determine the eddy viscosity with LES turbulent model in 3-D wave field (LES-WASS-3D), is validated by comparing with existing experimental data. And then, numerical simulation is carried out to examine the characteristics of wave-sandy beach interaction for a beach with/without drainage layer. From the numerical results, it is shown that mean ground-water level around a foreshore decreases and offshore-ward flow over a seabed reduces in case of a beach with drainage layer. Moreover, the effects of cross profile of drainage layer and incident wave condition on mean ground-water level around a foreshore are also discussed as well the distribution of wave setup around the foreshore.

  • This study proposes the characteristics of the pressure drop in a compressible fluid through porous media for application to a porous injector in a liquid rocket engine in order to improve the uniformity of the drop size distribution and the mixing performance of shear coaxial injectors. The fluid through the porous media is a Non-Darcy flow that shows a Nonlinear relation between the pressure drop and the velocity at high speed and high mass flow rate. The pressure drop of the Non-Darcy flow can be derived using the Forchheimer equation that includes the losses of viscous and inertia resistance. The permeability and Ergun coefficient represented as a function of the pressure drop and pore size can be applied to the porous injector, where the fluid through the porous media is compressible. A generalized correlation between the pressure drop in relation to the pore size was derived.
