Synthesis and Characterization of N,O-Carboxymethylchitosan Hydrogel Crosslinked by γ-ray Irradiation

  • In order to develop a water-solubility and biocompatibility, chemically modified chitosan, N,O-carboxymethylchitosan (NOCC), was synthesized and the NOCC hydrogels were prepared by using ${\gamma}-ray$ irradiation instead of chemical reagents. The FT-IR spectroscopy, swelling behavior, gel content and mechanical property such as gel strength of the hydrogel were measured. When the NOCC solution concentration was 15 wt% and the dose of irradiation was less than 50 kGy, the NOCC hydrogels had an excellent hydrophilicity and exhibited a good swelling behavior and mechanical properties.

  • With the advent of cutting-edge technology, renewable energy is significantly considered as alternative resources to supply electric power. However, many barriers such as energy intermittency, high initial installation cost, and low-efficiency generation challenged building new infrastructure with clean energy. Efforts reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels resulted in the decentralization of power generation like distributed energy resource (DER). This paper is to introduce and evaluate the feasibility of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) in a high-rise building in Ulsan. To optimize BIPV, a variety of methods to minimize efficiency decrease and maximize electric power generation after installing BIPV on the building's facade are suggested. The variables causing power losses are analyzed. By utilizing System Advisor Model (SAM), actual power generated from solar panels is measured by Thin-film PV, Mono-crystalline PV, and Poly-crystalline PV.

  • The emerging technologies at the industrial level have deployed rapidly within the energy transition process innovations. The nuclear industry incorporates several technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Digital Twins, High-Performance-Computing (HPC) and Quantum Computing (QC), among others. Factors identifications are explained to set up a regulatory framework in the digitalization era, providing new capabilities paths for nuclear technologies in the forthcoming years. The Analytical Network Process (ANP) integrates the quantitative-qualitative decision-making analysis to assess the implementation of different aspects in the digital transformation for the New-Energy Transition Era (NETE) with a Nuclear Power Infrastructure Development (NPID).

The Metabolizable Energy Value, Standardized Ileal Digestibility of Amino Acids in Soybean Meal, Soy Protein Concentrate and Fermented Soybean Meal, and the Application of These Products in Early-weaned Piglets

  • Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the metabolizable energy (ME) value, standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of amino acids (AA) of soybean meal (SBM), soy protein concentrate (SPC) and fermented soybean meal (FSBM), and the application of these products in early-weaned piglets. In Exp. 1, four barrows with initial body weight (BW) of $14.2{\pm}1.4$ kg were used in a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design. The diet 1 contained corn as the only energy source. The other three diets replaced 25% of corn in diet 1 with one of the three soybean products, and the digestable energy (DE) and ME contents were determined by difference. In Exp. 2, four barrows (initial BW of $18.2{\pm}1.5$ kg) were fitted with ileal T-cannulas and allotted to a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design. Three cornstarch-based diets were formulated using each of the soybean products as the sole source of AA. A nitrogen-free diet was also formulated to measure endogenous losses of AA. In Exp. 3, ninety six piglets (initial BW of $5.6{\pm}0.9$ kg) weaned at $21{\pm}2$ d were blocked by weight and assigned to one of three treatments for a 21-d growth performance study. The control diet was based on corn and SBM, the two treatments' diets contained either 10% SPC or FSBM and were formulated to same SID lysine to ME ratio of 3.6 g/Mcal. The results showed that the ME content of SPC was greater than SBM (p<0.05). The SID of most AA in SPC was greater than the SID of AA in SBM (p<0.05). For the essential AA, the SID of histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine and threonine in FSBM were greater than in SBM (p<0.05). Even though they were fed same SID lysine to ME ratio of 3.6 g/Mcal diets, pigs fed SPC and FSBM diets had greater weight gain, G:F (p<0.05) and better fecal score (p<0.05) than pigs fed SBM diet. In conclusion, SPC showed a higher ME content and SID of AA than the SBM. SID of some essential AA in FSBM was higher than SBM and was similar with SPC. But the lower antigenic proteins and anti-nutritional factors content in SPC and FSBM may be the main factors affecting the performance of early-weaned piglets rather than the increased ME content and SID of AA.

Interactive Multipath Routing Protocol for Improving the Routing Performance in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Multipath routing technique is recognized as one of the effective approaches to improve the reliability of data forwarding. However, the traditional multipath routing focuses only on how many paths are needed to ensure a desired reliability. For this purpose, the protocols construct additional paths and thus cause significant energy consumption. These problems have motivated the study for the energy-efficient and reliable data forwarding. Thus, this paper proposes an energy-efficient concurrent multipath routing protocol with a small number of paths based on interaction between paths. The interaction between paths helps to reinforce the multipath reliability by making efficient use of resources. The protocol selects several nodes located in the radio overlapped area between a pair of paths as bridge nodes for the path-interaction. In order to operate the bridge node efficiently, when the transmission failure has detected by overhearing at each path, it performs recovery transmission to recover the path failure. Simulation results show that proposed protocol is superior to the existing multipath protocols in terms of energy consumption and delivery reliability.

  • Amid the booming research on new and renewable energy, the photovoltaic(PV) industry has been growing around the PV advanced countries such as Japan, Germany, Europe and USA. In recent years, China became a strong performer in the world PV market share, increasing solar cell production rapidly. Both world solar cell and module production and installation rose steadily in 2007 like recent bumper years. In 2007, the PV industry produced 4.28GW and the installations reached a record high of 2.83GW, representing growth of 60percent over the previous year.

Research Infrastructure Foundation for Core-technology Incubation of Radiation Detection System

  • The development of radiation detection systems mainly consist of two parts-radiation detector fabrication including material development, and its appropriate electronics development. For the core-technology incubation of a radiation detection system, radiation fabrication and an evaluation facility are scheduled to be founded at the RFT (Radiation Fusion Technology) Center at KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) by 2015. This facility is utilized for the development and incubation of bottleneck-technologies to accelerate the industrialization of a radiation detection system in the industrial, medical, and radiation security fields. This facility is also utilized for researchers to develop next-generation radiation detection instruments. In this paper, the establishment of core-technology development is introduced and its technological mission is addressed.

수요유도형 모형 기반 산업연관분석을 적용한 정유 부문의 경제적 파급효과 분석 (Using the Demand-driven Model-based Inter-industry Analysis to Examine the Economic Effects of Petroleum Refinery Sector)

  • 본 논문에서는 연도별로 정유 부문의 경제적 파급효과를 비교분석하고자 한다. 한국은행에서 발표한 1990년부터 2012년도까지의 산업연관표를 이용하였다. 산업연관분석 분석모형 중 수요유도형 모형을 적용하되, 정유 부문을 외생화하여 분석함으로써 자기부문에 대한 효과와 타 부문에 대한 효과를 구분하였다. 정유 부문의 생산유발효과, 부가가치 유발효과, 취업유발효과를 정량화하고 연도별 추이를 살펴본 결과, 생산유발효과의 경우 1993년도부터 2008년까지 감소추세를 보이다가, 2009년도부터 2012년까지 일정한 수준(1.1912, 2012년 기준)을 유지하는 것으로 분석되었다. 그리고 부가가치 유발효과의 경우 1990년에서 1998년까지는 상승추세를 보이다가, 1998년 이후로 는 꾸준히 하락하는 것으로 나타났다(0.1174, 2012년 기준). 취업유발효과는 1990년부터 2008년까지 꾸준히 감소추세를 보이다가, 2010년부터 1.300(명/10억원) 이하의 수준에서 유지하고 있다. 이러한 분석결과는 과거와 비교하여 현시점의 국내 석유 산업을 객관적으로 평가할 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 있으며, 이러한 정량적 정보는 향후 석유산업에 대한 각종 경제적 파급효과를 예측하는데 유용하게 활용될 수 있다.

  • In Korea, over 97% of local energy demand is imported from other countries. And we have to lift the energy independence level up to 5% with replacement energy (renewable energy) such as solar, small hydropower, etc. by 2011 according to the energy agreement made in Kyoto Protocol. So, we proposed some opinions such as the better improvement of small hydropower industry the people' view, cooperation among industry/university/research institutes, remote control/maintenance and goverment's legislature and supporting system etc.
