  • This study aims to analyze consumers' purchase decision-making process of buying avatar fashion items on the Metaverse platform. Drawing on the connection between the self-expression tendency of the MZ generation and that of avatars in the Metaverse, this study uses a qualitative research method to analyze how consumers express their self-image through the appearance of their avatars. Unlike previous studies on the clothing purchase decision-making process, this study shows that purchasing and consumption behavior involve the following six stages: recognizing desire, collecting information, evaluating alternatives, making purchases, evaluating the consumption, and post-purchase action-taking. In the first stage of the purchase decision-making process, consumers' desire arises with self-image expression and confirmation. In the second stage, consumers have a high tendency to shop in the best item category. In the alternative evaluation stage, consumers tend to seek items that match their highest standard while considering their personal preferences. In the fourth stage, when making actual purchases, unplanned purchase behavior often occurs along with an active practice of alternative evaluation. In the fifth stage, the evaluation of the consumption shows that consumers achieve satisfaction by applying a style to their avatars that they are unable to try in the real world. In the last stage, consumers often use their purchases to communicate their various styles with other online consumers. Therefore, we conclude that the online purchase decision-making process differs from the offline process as it is divided into six stages.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the association between dietary quality based on the Korean Healthy Eating Index (KHEI), and the prevalence of chronic conditions among middle-aged individuals (40-60 yrs of age) living alone. MATERIALS/METHODS: The participants were selected (1,517 men and 2,596 women) from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2016-2018 and classified into single-person households (SPH) and multi-person households (MPH). Nutrient intake, KHEI, and the prevalence of chronic conditions were compared according to household size. The odds ratios (ORs) of chronic conditions were analyzed according to the tertile levels of KHEI by gender within each household size category. RESULTS: Men in SPH had a significantly lower total KHEI score (P < 0.0001) and a lower prevalence of obesity (OR, 0.576) than those in MPH. For men, the adjusted ORs for obesity, hypertension, and hypertriglyceridemia in the first tertile (T1) of KHEI scores within SPH compared with the third tertile (T3) were 4.625, 3.790, and 4.333, respectively. Moreover, the adjusted OR for hypertriglyceridemia in the T1 group compared to the T3 group within the MPH was 1.556. For women, the adjusted ORs for obesity and hypertriglyceridemia in T1 compared to T3 within the SPH were 3.223 and 7.134, respectively, and 1.573 and 1.373 for obesity and hypertension, respectively, within MPH. CONCLUSIONS: A healthy eating index was associated with a reduced risk of chronic conditions in middle-aged adults. Greater adherence to a healthy eating index could lower the risk of chronic conditions in middle-aged adults living alone.

  • In this paper, we investigated the implementation of a hairstyle recommendation system based on big data and deepfake technology. The proposed hairstyle recommendation system recognizes the facial shapes based on the user's photo (image). Facial shapes are classified into oval, round, and square shapes, and hairstyles that suit each facial shape are synthesized using deepfake technology and provided as videos. Hairstyles are recommended based on big data by applying the latest trends and styles that suit the facial shape. With the image segmentation map and the Motion Supervised Co-Part Segmentation algorithm, it is possible to synthesize elements between images belonging to the same category (such as hair, face, etc.). Next, the synthesized image with the hairstyle and a pre-defined video are applied to the Motion Representations for Articulated Animation algorithm to generate a video animation. The proposed system is expected to be used in various aspects of the beauty industry, including virtual fitting and other related areas. In future research, we plan to study the development of a smart mirror that recommends hairstyles and incorporates features such as Internet of Things (IoT) functionality.

  • Consumers are addressing the issue of dimensional dissatisfaction by repairing clothes, experimenting with style changes, and looking for cost-effective solutions that result in better-fitting garments. This study investigated the repair status by type of clothing, analyzed the method and frequency of repair by type of clothing category and season, and analyzed consumer redesign activities. The findings revealed that upper garments, such as T-shirts, jumpers, jackets, dress shirts, and dresses, were frequently repaired. The common modifications to upper garments included(in order of frequency) shortening sleeve length, shortening overall length, reducing garment width, zipper repair, and adjusting sleeve width. Lower garments, such as pants, jeans, skirts, and training pants, followed in terms of repair frequency. The modifications to lower garments included(in order of frequency) shortening length, reducing width, adjusting waist width (both narrowing and widening), replacing elastic bands, zipper repair, and lengthening. Repairs were more frequently conducted in the order of autumn, winter, spring, and summer. Repair methods varied depending on the clothing type and alterations involved to the length and width of garments and the replacement or removal of old sections. Redesigning clothing as a recycling method was found to enhance the cost-effectiveness of the collection. The study further confirmed the sustainability aspect of redesigning and reusing clothing.

  • This study attempted to analyze the context characteristics and consumer characteristics that affect fashion curation shopping. The data used for this study were 223 questionnaires targeting male and female college students in their 20s in Busan and South Gyeongsang Province who had had the curated shopping experience in the latest three months. The SPSS program was used for the data analysis, and a reliability measurement, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis, T-test, and one-way ANOVA were conducted. The results were as follows. First, fashion curation shopping exhibited three factors: product subscription, marketing use, and product recommendation shopping. Furthermore, the context characteristics had sub concepts of five factors: selection, sharing, experience, discovery, and storage. Second, the context characteristics (selection, sharing, experience, discovery, and storage) had a significant influence on product subscription, marketing use, and product recommendation, which belong to the curation shopping category. Third, the fashion consumers' price sensitivity, trend sensitivity, and product knowledge had a deep impact on the marketing use and product recommendation. Fourth, there was no difference in the fashion curation shopping by male and female consumers and the average monthly fashion shopping frequency, and there were differences in shopping cost and time. This study can analyze the context and consumer characteristics that affect fashion curation shopping to establish an efficient fashion curation shopping system in practical terms. Additionally, academically, it can be proposed as basic data on the development of measurement tools for analyzing consumer behavior that prefers fashion curation shopping.

  • This study identified and evaluated by deriving and categorizing concepts related to the user experience of metaverse fashion shows using grounded theory, which is a qualitative research method. Based on experiential marketing theory, in-depth interviews were conducted for 14 days with 14 males and females in their 20s and 30s. The research results and contents are as follows: The causal condition was the purpose of using metaverse fashion shows, and the action/interaction strategy caused by such a case was found to be establishing a system for metaverse fashion shows and promoting a positive brand image. The results included content evaluation of satisfaction, normal, or dissatisfaction. The contextual condition was a change in the form of consumption that emphasized experience, while the interventional condition was psychological distance. Based on this, the core category was defined as "consumption patterns that emphasized the purpose of use and experience affects the metaverse fashion shows and psychological distance appeared as a user experience evaluation through the establishment of a system of metaverse fashion shows and the promotion of a positive brand image". User types were classified as active or passive. Active users have the autonomy to select content according to their individual preferences, and accordingly, their experience preference tends to change. In contrast, passive users' preference for the technical quality of content is relatively low, but they have a high concentration of content diversity and audio-visual interest elements.

  • In this study, the effects of a 12-month multidisciplinary education program on the health status, dietary quality, and eating habits of children and adolescents attending community childcare centers were investigated. A total of 88 participants aged 7 to 17 years from 7 community childcare centers in Gyeonggi-do were enrolled. The intervention consisted of 12 multidisciplinary education sessions covering topics such as nutrition, exercise, and psychological education. All participants received the same education, and the effectiveness of the program was evaluated by categorizing them into a high participation group (HPG) and a low participation group (LPG) based on their participation rates. After intervention, in physical activities, moderate-intensity exercise was significantly reduced in the LPG, and there was no significant difference in psychological parameters. However, notable differences were observed in nutritional data. After intervention, intakes of calorie, carbohydrate, protein, and fat were significantly increased in both groups, and in particular, the change was found to be greater in HPG. Additionally, dietary fiber intake compared to the 2015 Korean Dietary Reference Intakes was increased in both groups. Daily food intake also increased dietary fiber intake in HPG, and meat and fruit intake was increased in LPG. In the nutrition quotient, there was a significant difference in HPG's pre- and post-scores in the diversity category, and in nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR), the NAR of phosphorus was increased in both groups. The findings of this study suggest that multidisciplinary education implemented at community childcare centers primarily enhanced nutrition-related factors rather than physical activity or psychological aspects.

  • This study examines the relationship between the organizational general characteristics (industry, size, location, development stage, and company age) and success factors of Korean venture firms using secondary data. Among the industries with the highest sales figures in 2016 are food / fiber / (non) metals, and the smallest category was software development. The sectors with the highest net profit were computer / semiconductor / electronic components, and the smallest category was telecommunication equipment / broadcasting equipment. The industries with the largest sales growth rate are IT / broadcasting services and software development. The industries with the highest net profit margin of sales are energy / medical / precision, and the smallest is telecommunication equipment / broadcasting equipment. In terms of the number of employees, venture firms with more than 100 employees have the largest sales and net profit, with employees between 1 and 9 have the smallest. However, these results are predictable. In general, the number of employees is highly correlated with sales and net profit. Rather, the sales growth rate and the net profit margin of sales may be meaningful. In particular, with employees between 50 ~ 99, the growth rate of sales and the net profit margin of sales were high. In terms of location, Seoul / Incheon / Gyeonggi were the regions with the highest sales and Daejeon / Sejong / Chungcheong / Gangwon were the least regions. Gwangju / Jeolla / Jeju and Seoul / Incheon / Gyeonggi were almost similar in the areas with the largest net profit. However, Daejeon / Sejong / Chungcheong / Gangwon had the lowest net profit. Unusually, the areas with the highest sales growth rate and the highest net profit margin of sales were Gwangju / Jeolla / Jeju, and the smallest areas were Busan / Jeonnam / Ulsan In the relationship between the stage of development and the performance of the company, the sales of maturity and decline stages were the highest and establishing stage was the lowest. Net profit was also the highest in mature stage and the smallest in establishing stage. The sales growth rate shows a typical pattern in the order of establishing stage, early growth stage, high growth stage, maturity stage, and decline stage. In terms of business performance, sales and net profit are the highest with 21 years or more of company age, and the smallest is less than 3 years. In addition, the sales growth rate was the highest in three years or less, and the net profit margin of sales was the highest in 4 to 10 years. This study can present lots of useful implications by suggesting integrated research model and examining the success factors of Korean venture firms and presenting the application methods of secondary data in analyzing the current status of venture industry in Korea.
