  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the consciousness and behavior for environmental problems of university student and the necessity of schooling for environmental education. In order to achieve this purpose, a method of questionnaire was administered to total 1012 students selected from 5 universities in Suwon Si etc.. The results in questionnaire were as follows. Most students responded that living environmental education in middle and high school was helpful(70.4%) in practical living. And the most serious problem of living environmental pollution was water pollution(53.6%), air pollution(19.8%), waste material pollution(15.8%), food additives(7.9%), genetic modified organism(3.0%), respectively. And students obtained most knowledge of living environmental problems in internet(87.0%). Also most students responded that the main source and cause of water pollution and air pollution was industrial waste 63.4%, vehicles 61.5%, respectively. And level of environmental behaviors and consciousness of students distributed by major was science & engineering 2.13/4, etc. 2.08/4, art & athletics 1.6/4, liberal art 1.53/4, respectively. And also most respondents have recognition the necessity of schooling for environmental education.

  • This paper was carried out to estimate pollution levels of various insulators in tunnel and establish cleaning period in each tunnel section. We estimate pollution level that is attached to insulators in environmental pollution area, industrial area, salt damage area. These results that the pollution quantity and conductivity were increased by pollution accumulation period. However, the conductivity showed each other big difference in each tunnel. In particular, the conductivity showed big in environmental pollution(tunnel A) and salt damage(tunnel C) area, It is considered to prevent accident that manage establishing periodic state of cleaning plan. Also, the Grease that spread on the insulator surface in existing is considered that it can prevent accident for long-term by restrain use.

  • Our study investigated the effects of Solanum macrocarpon (African eggplant) on haematological and biochemical parameters of male albino rats exposed to urban air pollution ($O_3$, $PM_{10}$, CO, $SO_2$, $NO_2$ and VOC). Male albino Wistar rats were exposed for 63 days either to urban air pollution without treatment (A); oral supplementation with Solanum macrocarpon given at 36 and 75 mg/kg body weight (BW), representing C and D respectively and exposed to air pollution; oral supplementation with Solanum macrocarpon given at 75 mg/kg BW after exposure to air pollution (B); or kept in animal house without exposure to air pollution (E). Animals exposed to air pollution showed significant alterations in haematological and biochemical parameters signaling that the blood and organs were badly injured. There were significant elevations in white blood cells (WBC) and its indices, reduction in red blood cells (RBC) and significant depletions of non-enzymic antioxidants, total protein and increase in lipid peroxidation values. Solanum macrocarpon supplementation in the feed of animals halted significantly the deleterious effects of air pollution, with co-administration during exposure given better results.

  • The rapid industrializing of China has helped the development of the industrial economy since 1980. However, the problem is some environmental pollution, such as SO$_2$, TSP, HOx, Dioxin etc, generated by the industrial facilities located in Northeastern China is moving to the Korean Peninsula through the cold air stream during the Asian dust season, This kind of air pollution worsens the environmental pollution of the Korean Peninsula year by year. Therefore, NGO suggests to China that the minimization of the environmental problems linked to both Korea and China has to be discussed. In fact, I would like to suggest that the activity of EMS(ISO14000) should help the environmentally sound '||'&'||' sustainnable development of both countries,

  • The study was conducted to measure the heavy metal pollution of soils at the playground for children and to investigate the characteristics of heavy metals distribution I city. The studied area was divided into two: the residential area and the industrial area. The samples of the sands and soils were collected from both areas. The results were obtained as follows. All average concentration of 6 different heavy metals was found to be lower than the standard of soil pollution. Zn, Pb and cu concentrations were higher than other species of heavy metals. The contents of heavy metals in the soil were higher than the sands. The average contents of Zn, Pb, Cu, As, Hg and Cd in soil were 38.36, 9.53, 7.31, 0.03, 0.18 and 0.09 mg/kg respectively. Comparing with the residential area, heavy metal concentrations of the industrial area were 4.60, 1.49, 2.60 and 4.29 times for Zn, Pb, Hg and Cd in soils, respectively.

  • The present study was performed to elucidate the distribution of protozoans according to the actual conditions of soil pollution around Ulsan industrial complexes, Korea. Samples were collected from the top-soils of 13 localities in eight times during the period from 16 April 1994 to 14 January 1995. As a result of this study, total 11 species of hypotrichous ciliated protozoa were identified and analyzed. These hypotrichs are 6 species of stichotrichine hyporichs ( Keronopsis sp., Pseudourostyla sp., Hoiriiticha syivatica, Hipiosticha multistylata, Hoios-ticha sp. and ParuroleFitus sp.) and 5 species of sporadotrichine hypotrichs (Oxyricha sp., Steinla sp., Histriculus cavicola, Hemisincirra sp. and Gonostomum auiili). Of these 11 species, 4 species (Keronopsis sp., Pseudourostyla sp., Holosticha sp. and Hemisincirra sp.) are reriorted for 1%e first time from Korea. All the sampling localities could be grouped in three zones by the cluster analysis with the abundance and distribution of protozoans. This result is approximately coincide with the ionation by the concentration of heavy metals.

  • The importance of atmospheric conditions for the assessment of an air pollution situation has been demonstrated by their influence on the various compartments of an air pollution system, comprising all stages from emission to effects. Especially, air pollutants dispersion phenomenon are very sensitive according to wind data. But the discussions of how to apply representative meteorological data in air pollution dispersion model are not frequent in Korean environmental assessment processes. In this study, we investigated the difference of air pollutants dispersion phenomenon using U.S EPA ISCLT3 model according to applying the different meteorological data observed at two points for Seongseo industrial complex of Daegu. Two points are the spot site of Seongseo industrial complex and Daegu meteorological observatory. The winds speed of the spot site were smaller than those of Daegu meteorological observatory. In the winter season, the differences came to about $64\%$ for the period$(I\;February\;2001\~31\;January\;2002)$. Wind directions were also fairly different at two points. The air pollutants dispersion phenomenon estimated from our numerical experiments were also fairly different owing to the meteorological conditions at two points.

  • While cognition about an environment pollution becomes important recently, the intense pollution measures about an indoor air environment is required. In the case of building indoor environment, over 80% of modem people is living in building and these days an interest of building interior materials which becomes a reason for indoor environmental pollution in public house, office, is increasing. An experimental measurement method of this study is as follows. (1) American EPA TO-17, ASTMD5116-97, measurement method in VOCs experiment of Japanese closet industrial association (2) 2.4-DNPH cartridge method in HCHO experiment, based on American EPA TO-11 and measurement method of Japanese closet industrial association (3) standard compound is analyzed by using HPLC after solvent extraction process (4) paint and furniture are selected as measurement objects (5) we also made small chamber to grasp an emission characteristic of HCHO and VOCs and to get an environment-amicable forecast model through it, then we developed the model which can forecast emission rate by chamber experiment.
