  • Under a continuous-review inventory system, the inventory position process was proved to be asymptotically independent of the general renewal demand processes, when the two processes form an asymptotic unimodel joint distribution. The analytical technique implemented through this work seems to be more like general, and so the periodic-review system can be similarly investigated. In conclusion, the results may be evaluated to direct to the analytical analyses of some inventory systems which have been treated under some restrictions on demand processes.

  • Emissions of volatile organic compounds and odors from various industrial processes not only pollute surrounding life environments, but also lead to the deterioration of the working environments, causing various industrial health and business problems. These pollutants are usually stimulating, irritating, malodorous and sometimes carcinogenic, Which should be reduced in the pollutants formation, stage, but the practical processes do not allow This paper describes the major sources of VOC and odors, and their sampling/analysis methods. Furthermore, various removal technologies for these pollutants are suggested, which particularly include the characteristics of the catalytic and scrubber/carbon filter combined process, and even process design technologies.

  • This paper is a study for the computerization program of incoming and outgoing processes of a number of parts and a great amount of material for producing products in flood industry, which was required by a medium-sized company located at Cheon-An. The program consists of four databases, one main form, seventeen subforms, and eight report forms. Concretely speaking, the four databases are prepared for products, semi-products, material, and reports, and the seventeen subforms are those for current inventory, used quantity, safty stock, product specification, etc. With the program, users can be helped and save manpower, time and cost in incoming and outgoing processes of parts and material for producing products and in their real time operation and decision-making.

  • At present water crisis is not an issue of scarcity, but of access. There is a growing recognition of the need for increased access to clean water (drinkable, agricultural, industrial use). An encouraging number of innovative technologies, systems, components, processes are emerging for water-treatment, including new filtration and disinfectant technologies, and removal of organics from water. In the past decade many methods have been developed. The most important membrane-based water technologies include reverse osmosis (RO), ultrafiltration (UF), microfiltration (MF), and nanofiltration. Beside membrane based water-treatment processes, other techniques such as advanced oxidation process (AOP) have also been developed. Some unconventional water treatment technology such as magnetic treatment is also being developed.

  • This research was aimed at developing new catalytic membrane reactors to be used for : i) partial oxidation of toluene (to benzaldehyde and benzoic acid) ii) oxidative dehydrogenation of propane iii) complete oxidation of propane and toluene. The reactor is particularly useful for the optimisation and the industrial development of heterogeneous catalytic processes, particularly for those processes where it is necessary to control the reactants stoichiometry in the reaction zone. This control limits consecutive reactions, thus obtaining high selectivity with industrially interesting conversions. This presentation will concentrate on the partial oxidation of toluene.

  • It is extremely important to design safety-guaranteed industrial processes because such process determine the ultimate outcomes of industrial activities, including worker safety. Application of artificial intelligence (AI) in industrial safety involves modeling industrial safety systems by using vast amounts of safety-related data, accident prediction, and accident prevention based on predictions. As a preliminary step toward realizing AI-based industrial safety in Korea, this study discusses neural network-based modeling of industrial safety systems. The input variables that are the most discriminatory relative to the output variables of industrial safety processes are selected using two information-theoretic measures, namely entropy and cross entropy. Normalized frequency and severity of industrial accidents are selected as the output variables. Our simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed neural network model and, therefore, the feasibility of extending the model to include more input and output variables.

  • "Pollution prevention" is an important and appropriate part of efforts to minimize the environmental impacts of industrial processes, but it is only a part. Even more important is to assess the environmental characteristics of processes across all stages of their lives. This paper presents a formalism for evaluating the environmental implications of processes at each life stage(a procedure termed "life-cycle assessment").

  • Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies have attracted wide attention as key technologies for the next industrial revolution. Among AM technologies using various materials, powder bed fusion (PBF) processes and direct energy deposition (DED) are representative of the metal 3-D printing process. Both of these processes have a common feature that the laser is used as a heat source to fabricate the 3-D shape through melting of the metal powder and solidification. However, the material properties of the deposited metals differ when produced by different process conditions and methods. 17-4 precipitation-hardening stainless steel (17-4PH SS) is widely used in the field of aircraft, chemical, and nuclear industries because of its good mechanical properties and excellent corrosion resistance. In this study, we investigated the differences in microstructure and mechanical properties of deposited 17-4PH SS by PBF and DED processes, including the heat treatment effect.

  • In these days, mobile technology such as smart phone and GPS have an effect on business processes of many companies especially a transportation company. The purpose of this paper is to present the development processes of real time vehicles tracking and intelligent TMS (Transportation Management System) using smart phone applications. The objective of this study is two-fold. The first is to redesign business process of the transportation company. Using BPR (business process re-engineering), we analyze current processes to find opportunities for improvement redefining processes after adopting mobile technology precisely. The second is to develop the real time vehicles tracking and intelligent TMS. Proposed system consists of four parts : (1) intelligent TMS(web system) (2) real time vehicle tracking application for TMS (3) real time tracking application for customer (4) salesman supporting application. Developed system was tested at the transportation company and was found to be an useful system.
