A Computer Simulation Model for Container Terminal Systems (컨테이너항 전산 모의실험 모형의 개발)

  • A computer simulation model for optimum design and determination of optimal operational parameter values for modern container terminal systems was developed through the use of GASP-IV, a subset of SLAM. Input data reflecting current system configuration and operational practices at Pusan container terminal was used to test the model, which resulted in its validation. Possibilities for application of the model in areas of candidate system comparisons, operational parameter testing and forecasting operational performance under future traffic situations, are explained.

  • Bioelectrical measurement has long been an important area in medical researches and practices, and contributed valueable data to the field of human engineering. In particular, the measurement of EEG has been widely used for the study of brain function as well as for the diagnosis of various brain disorders. The present study tried to improve conventional measurements of EEG in that FFT algorithm with microcomputer machine language was applied to facilitate the computation of various aspects of the EEG.

A Study on the Hand Washing Awareness and Practices of Food-service Employees and the Load of Index Microorganisms on the Hands (조리종사자의 손 씻기 의식과 실천 및 손의 지표미생물 오염도에 관한 연구)

  • Hand-washing is one of the major factors in personal hygiene and public health. This study was undertaken to investigate the hygienic behavior of food-service employees, focusing on awareness of hand washing, hand washing practices, and the load of index microorganisms (aerobic plate count, total and fecal coliforms, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus) on the hands of food-service employees. A questionnaire survey completed by direct interview, direct observation of restrooms by the researcher and trained observers, and microbiological examination according to the Food Code of Korea were carried out. In the survey, a positive attitude toward hand washing compliance was reported; however, improper hand washing and poor hand hygiene of the food-service employees were seen under direct observation. Significant differences (p<0.05) were found between the questionnaire survey and the direct observations in hand washing compliance after using the toilet, duration of hand washing, use of hand washing agents, use of hand washing tools, washing of different parts of the hands, hand-drying method, temperature of water, and method of turning off the water. Samples taken from employees' hands before washing showed higher levels of bacteria than those taken during work and/or after washing (p<0.05). Poor hand washing practices were indicated by the positive results for total and fecal coliforms, E. coli, and S. aureus on the hands of some food-service employees. This study showed that there is a marked difference between the food-service employees' awareness of hand-washing and their actual hand-washing practices. The poor hand hygiene of and improper hand washing by the food-service employees should be addressed for improved food safety.

Study of the Effects of Supplier Monitoring on Shop floor Productivity (공급사 모니터링이 현장생산성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Focal companies (hereafter called buyers) adopt outsourcing practices from a supply chain management strategy to be competitive. Buyers face the bridge transfer after outsourcing contracts, and the monitoring practices would be the only control mechanism left to prevent losing control over the suppliers. This study suggests the set of monitoring practices (i.e., capability, activity and outcome monitoring) as the independent variables to enhance the buyer-supplier collaboration and supplier's performance. In addition the buyer's efforts of monitoring are assumed to influence the buyer's shop floor productivity mediated by the supplier's performance and buyer-supplier collaboration. The results showed that the monitoring practices are meaningful antecedents to the supplier's performance and buyer-supplier collaboration, which fully mediates between the monitoring practices and buyer's shop floor productivity. The mediating role of the buyer-supplier collaboration between activity monitoring and shop floor productive has been rejected, because the negative effect of activity monitoring on buyer-supplier collaboration conflicts with the positive impact of buyer-supplier collaboration on shop floor productive. The theoretical contribution and managerial implications with limitations have been discussed.

Nursing Students' Patient Safety Competency and Patient Safety Management Practice (간호대학생의 환자안전 역량과 환자안전관리 행위)

  • This study was conducted to identify the effects of patient safety competency on patient safety management practice by nursing students and provide basic data for the development of the program to improve patient safety management practice. Participants were 293 fourth year nursing students who had clinical practice as student nurses for more than one year. Data were collected from April 26 to May 9, 2018. Collected data were analyzed for frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson' s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 24.0 computer program. Nursing students' patient safety competency was an average $2.90{\pm}0.38$ points (patient safety knowledge $2.68{\pm}0.65$; patient safety skills $3.26{\pm}0.56$; patient safety attitudes $2.75{\pm}0.40$). The average core of management practices to patient safety recorded $4.13{\pm}0.57$ points. In terms of the correlation among subjects' patient safety knowledge, skills, attitudes and patient safety management practices, significant correlation existed between skills and management practices (r=.337, p<.001), attitudes and management practices (r=-.150, p =.010), knowledge and management practices (r=.171, p=.003). Regression analysis revealed that 15.7% of the variance in patient safety management practice by nursing students could be explained by patient safety skills (${\beta}=.307$, p<.001), patient safety accident experience of Fire (${\beta}=-.127$, p=.026), patient safety attitudes (${\beta}=-.121$, p=.026), and patient safety accident experience of patient education (${\beta}=-.119$, p=.034). Additional studies to determine the various factors affecting patient safety management practice of nursing students and to develop educational program for increasing patient safety management practice should be conducted.

Analysis of Health Practices of Industrial Workers by Sex (산업장 근로자의 성별특성에 따른 건강습관 비교분석연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate industrial workers' health habits by sex. Data was collected from 900 workers at 57 industries in Inchon. The research has been carried out through self-administered questionnaires and from the analysis of health examination records. The results were as follows: 1. The most prevalent age group of women were 20-30 years age group(44.3%) and of men were 30-40 years one(45.6%). As for the marital status, 48.1% of women were single and as were 30% of men. High school graduates were over 62.2% of both sex, 32.5% of the men and 58.0% of the women worked between 1 and 5 years. 2. As far as the health habits, women practiced better than men in smoking, drinking and breakfast habits while men practiced better than women in exercise, sleeping and snack habits(p<0.001). 3. According to the odds ratio of health habits by sex, gender was related to health practices in the present study, men had worse health habits than women by 139.83 times in smoking, by 6.97 times in drinking consumption(p<0.001). And as for eating regular breakfast habits, women had better health habits than men by 2.53 times(p<0.001). 4. Good health practice scores(5-7) were 25.0% in women and 12.6% in men and those had bad health practice (0-4) were 75.0% in women and 87.5% in men(p<0.001). 5. According to the results of multiple logistic regression to examine the difference of health habits by sex, men had worse health habit than women by 114.5 times in smoking, by 3.1 times in alcohol consumption more than once per week in control of the other factors. Women had better health habits than men by 4.5 times in regular breakfast habits. 6. Health habits had a statistically significant association with good health status among men, but the relationship was nonsignificant in the women. According to the odds ratio, men who had bad health habits were poorer health status than who had good health habits by 1.95 times(p<0.05).

An Investigation of Using Practices for Universal Design of Information Technology Products (IT제품의 유니버설 디자인을 위한 사용실태조사)

  • This study investigated perceived discomfort and reasons related to use three information technology products (personal computer, mobile phone and digital television remote controller), and extracted the universal design factors. 240 people (30 females and 30 males for four age groups) participated in the one-to-one interview type of questionnaire, and replied to degree of discomfort at level of items and the reasons of discomfort at level of detailed elements for each product. As a result, almost all age groups answered that using input buttons of mobile phone and remote controller and watching display of mobile phone caused discomfort. Binary logistic regression of the detailed elements showed that response rate of discomfort mostly increased with age, except for specific elements such as shape of mouse and remote controller, and location of function button of mobile phone. Some of the detailed elements had high response rate of discomfort from all age groups. The age groups also showed similar tendency for the elements to select one alternative for the reason of discomfort, but not for sound volume and size of mobile phone and button sensitivity of remote controller. Finally, the universal design factors were extracted for each product based on the results, and divided into common factors and factors classified by the age group. Through this study, we identified using practices of various age groups and their demands for the products. It is expected that extracted detailed elements can be considered as important design factors to design the products universally.
