Environmental regulations in Korea for blasting at industrial sites have conservative standards, which often result in reduced efficiency and cost-effectiveness due to the consideration of environmental regulations and public complaints. Therefore, there is a need for blasting methods that can reduce environmental damage while improving construction efficiency and cost-effectiveness. In this study, we analyzed the effects of the PA-Deck (Paraffin Air-Deck) blasting method, which is a kind of Air Decoupled Charge method in principle utilizing a paraffin-infused paper tube as an air gap, on reducing blasting hazards and improving blasting efficiency. The analysis also evaluated the effectiveness of newly applied equipment for collecting blasting vibration data, and derived the relationship between the explosion velocity and vibration velocity of explosives, and performed frequency analysis of the vertical component. The results of the blasting vibration velocity analysis showed that the Paraffin Waxed Paper Tube-based blasting method exhibited significantly lower vibration velocities compared to conventional blasting methods, and it was judged that more uniformly small-sized fragmented rocks were generated.

With the upcoming 4th industrial revolution era, the applications of artificial intelligence(AI) and big data in engineering are increasing. In the field of blasting, there have been various reported cases of the application of AI. In this paper, AI techniques, such as artificial neural network, fuzzy logic, generic algorithm, swarm intelligence, and support vector machine, which are widely applied in blasting area, are introduced, The studies about the application of AI for the prediction of ground vibration, rock fragmentation, fly rock, air overpressure, and back break are surveyed and summarized. It is for providing starting points for the discussion of active application of AI on effective and safe blasting design, enhancing blasting performance, and minimizing the environmental impact due to blasting.
The blast demolition technology has been used to demolish various industrial facilities and tall buildings since 1950s in the advanced countries such as USA and U.K. It is now considered as one of safe demolition methods in the above countries. In Korea, several companies have tried to introduce blast demolition technology in the early days of the 1990s. However, this technology is still at the beginning stage and not fully adopted due to situation of avoiding technology transfer by overseas technical tie-up companies, lack of objects to be demolished and low level recognition on blast demolition. This technology shall be considered as a cutting edge technology to be applicable to demolition of skyscrapers, various industrial structures and factory buildings in the near future. Blast demolition of a pier structure was carried out under the site condition where there were already the constructed 2 pier structures of up and down line which had safety problems in an expressway construction project. The pier structures need to be demolished and reconstructed for a short period of time in consideration of the construction work process to be followed.
Koreans have emphasized education as the primary means to reconstruct our country means to reconstruct our country after two catastrophic events-the Japanese occupation and the Korean War(1950-1953). A Strong belief- in education coupled with sheer deter-mination spurred the period of industrial and eeonomic development that started in the early 1970-'s. The "can-do" attitude of the general public was matched and aided by small S & T communities. Scientists and engineers provided the neeessary expertise to manufacture goods and process the many raw materials imported from overseas. After nearly three decades of reconst-ructing our completely devastated country, Korea has become a modern, cosmo-politan, fast-paced and dynamic country. In order to further increaser our manufac- turing capabilities and double the per-capita income by the beginning of the 21st century, we must improve productivitiy and encourage creatitivity in all sectors of our country. The S & T community's efforts in research and development. education, and interna-tional cooperation will be invaluable in determining our direction and reaching these goals. The general public is eager to peacefully unite our foreign powers since 1945. Toward that end. members of the S & T community are willing to coope-rate with our north Korean counterparts in all areas of S & T with the exception of defense related endeavors. Establi-shing scientific ties with north Korea will result in mutual economic benefit and greater regional stability in East Asia. In particular. scientists and manu-facturers in each province are eager to initiate cordial and professional relation-ships with north Korea in the hopes of securing these benefits. The Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies(KOFST) has played an important role both in developing S & T policies, and in gostering the frowty of S & T societies. A non-governmental umbrella organization composed of over 251 professional societies, KOFST facili-tates the transfer of research outcomes and technology from research institutions to the various industries. KOFST also seeks to increase cooperation between the countries of the Pacific Rim. As evidence of that, we have pursued joint research and industrial ventures with China. Established projects include those on environmental conditions in the Yellow Sea, and improvement of aircraft manufacturing, telecommunica-tion equipment, and agricultural produ-cts. Increased cooperation between the Pacific Rim countries, particularly in S & T, would foster social and economic development for the region as a whole.

Because of urbanization, Industrialization and expansion of transportation network, blasting works are recently increasing in construction field. The blasting work influences environmental effects to residents and the safety of facilities around the working place, so the development of blasting technology is needed to reduce the damage to residents. The blasting mechanism in the hole was studied and tested in the blasting sites by the difference of diameter between explosives and drilling hole, which is named by the decoupling effect. This effect was tested by changing the medium between explosives and hole wall in three working sites(railway, highway and industrial complex). The vibration velocity of blasting was recorded and vibration equations were produced by regression analyses. Finally, the structure separation distance was derived using these equations. The testing results show that the specific gravity of medium is larger, the separation distance is smaller and the duration time of blasting is shorter in case of large specific gravity of medium, so the vibration effect stops more fastly in the water compared with the air.

The purpose of this study is to suggest amendments for the effective operation of safety and health regulations that stipulate safety standards for the prevention of industrial accidents in blasting and tunneling works. Because the regulations on Occupational Safety and Health Standards have not been revised for a long time, the regulations do not meet the requirements in site, and it is reported that it is difficult to implement the regulations at workplaces due to various deficiencies. Therefore, this study aims to abolish or improve unreasonable regulations that do not fit reality due to changes in the technology environment, or to modify low-operability regulations considering domestic conditions in blasting and tunneling workplaces. By comparing domestic laws and standards related to blasting and tunneling works with foreign ones, the improvement measures were suggested.

The blast vibrations were measured from 10 places through Seoul subway area to study their effects on the structures and to establish the safe blasting limits. For purpose of the present study, particle velocity only was recorded and analyzed, because it correlated most directly with damage. The results are as follows: (1) The proagation equation, $V=K(D/W^{1/3})^{-n}$ was obtained. Typical values could be found for n range from 1.7 to 1.5 and for k range from 48 to 138. (2) From the relationship between schmidt hammer rebound hardness and uniaxial compressive strength, $Sc=0.514{\times}(S.H)^{0.23}$, the compressive strength at any area can be assumed. (3) The use of AN-FO and other explosives with low detonation pressure may reduce vibration levels generated.
In underground drilling and blasting, particularly in small headings(generally under $20m^2$), the prospects for changes of blast parameters are usually more limited than those employed by large area tunnel(over $20m^2$). It is also well known that the consumption of explosives and specific drilling rate for small tunnel areas are exponentially increased also tunnel areas decrease. To confirm above results, some tests for two tunnels(irrigation water tunnel with $6.0m^2$ area, electric supplies tunnel with $15.0m^2$) are also carried out in this study. As a results, specific drilling rate and specific charge for irrigation water tunnel were decreased from 13.8 to $7.7m/m^3$ and from 4.88 to $2.56kg/m^3$ respectively. Those for electric supplies tunnel were also decreased from 8.0 to $4.9m/m^3$ and from 3.46 to $2.22kg/m^3$.

In the military, ammunition and explosives stored and managed can cause serious damage if mishandled, thus securing safety through the utilization of ammunition reliability data is necessary. In this study, exploratory data analysis of ammunition inspection records data is conducted to extract reliability information of stored ammunition and to predict the ammunition condition code, which represents the lifespan information of the ammunition. This study consists of three stages: ammunition inspection record data collection and preprocessing, exploratory data analysis, and classification of ammunition condition codes. For the classification of ammunition condition codes, five models based on boosting algorithms are employed (AdaBoost, GBM, XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost). The most superior model is selected based on the performance metrics of the model, including Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F1-score. The ammunition in this study was primarily produced from the 1980s to the 1990s, with a trend of increased inspection volume in the early stages of production and around 30 years after production. Pre-issue inspections (PII) were predominantly conducted, and there was a tendency for the grade of ammunition condition codes to decrease as the storage period increased. The classification of ammunition condition codes showed that the CatBoost model exhibited the most superior performance, with an Accuracy of 93% and an F1-score of 93%. This study emphasizes the safety and reliability of ammunition and proposes a model for classifying ammunition condition codes by analyzing ammunition inspection record data. This model can serve as a tool to assist ammunition inspectors and is expected to enhance not only the safety of ammunition but also the efficiency of ammunition storage management.
