  • Ginger is an important monocotyledonous plant belonging to the family Zingiberaceae. The objective of this study was to investigate the regeneration potential of ginger using leaf base explants. Auxins such as 2, 4-D and NAA in combination with BA were used for initiation of callus. Different combinations of both ammonium ($NH^{4+}$) and nitrate ($NO^{3-}$) were also studied for efficient callus production. High frequency of white friable calli was observed on modified Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/L 2, 4-D, 0.5 mg/L NAA and 0.5 mg/L BA. The highest shoot induction (92.33%), shootlets number ($7.33{\pm}0.33$) and length ($88.33{\pm}4.40$) mm were achieved on MS media containing 0.5 mg/L BA. Regenerated shoots were transferred to in vitro rooting media containing 1.0 mg/L IBA. Afterwards, plantlets with well-developed root and shoot system were subjected to a twostep hardening process. 71% of plantlets survived after secondary hardening without any abnormal morphology.

  • In the automobile industry, the various efforts to lower their industrial cost and enhance fuel efficiency have been made through process improvement or weight saving of automobile parts. Gear is one of significant parts of transmission, which is made by cast iron or alloy steel. It is expensive due to complex processing, inferior materials and large machining allowance. In this study, alternative gear cars oil which is based on fluid applications materials is produced by reducing surface induction hardening and carburizing hardened in production. And then, wear characteristic and mechanical properties such as hardness of the sintered alloy which is used as a substitute for small machining allowance is investigated.

  • In this paper, the surface roughness influenced by Sm45C hardness in high frequency induction hardening and mechanical characteristics for the changed Hv 598 part and the unchanged hardness Hv 223 part by use of cermet and ceramic cutting tools was experimentally examined. Finally, we could be had some important results by processing surface roughness on cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut and changes of tool nose radius. The results are summarized as follows. 1. In case of the same cutting condition, the hardness of workpiece was high and acquired the best processing surface roughness when the radius of the tool nose had 0.8 mm and feed rate was 0.04 mm/rev. 2. In case of the hardness of workpiece, though the cutting speed didn't have an effect on processing surface roughness, the less feed rate and the more processing surface roughness improved. On the other hand, the low inside the hardness of workpiece, the more cutting speed and the more feed rate increase, the processing surface of roughness improved. 3. Regardless of the hardness of workpiece, the change of the cutting depth didn't have great effect on the surface roughness. 4. On cutting the high surface hardness part with cutting tools of cermet and ceramic, it can be acquired the higher processing surface roughness because it hadn't been taken effect on cutting speed, In case of the cutting process of the low inside hardness part the two cutting tools have acquired the similar processing surface roughness.

  • Recently, metal molding has become essential not only for automobile parts, but also mass production, and has greatly influenced production costs as well as the quality of products. Its surface has been treated by carburizing, nitriding and induction hardening, but these existing treatments cause considerable deformation and increase the expense of postprocessing after treatment; furthermore, these treatments cannot be easily applied to parts that requiring the hardening of only a certain section. This is because the treatment cannot heat the material homogeneously, nor can it heat all of it. Laser surface treatment was developed to overcome these disadvantages, and, when the laser beam is irradiated on the surface and laser speed is appropriate, the laser focal position is rapidly heated and the thermal energy of surface penetrates the material after irradiation, finally imbuing it with a new mechanical characteristic by the process of self-quenching. This research estimates the material characteristic after efficient and functional surface treatment using HPDL, which is more efficient than the existing CW Nd:YAG laser heat source.

  • Mold may experience deterioration of molding quality as the abrasion of mold occurring due to friction between mold and molded product works as allowance in the course of press process. Therefore, to improve the wear-resistance of mold, methods like nitriding, carburizing, flame and induction surface hardening treatment etc have been applied. However, as such methods are accompanied by problems like shape limitation or product deformation etc, laser surface treatment technology is under review as surface treatment method that can solve such problems. Therefore, in this study, mold material cast iron was surface-treated by using high power diode laser. In previous report 1 and report 2, the heat treatment characteristics were compared by the differences of die materials and shapes, then this paper observed microstructure by using optical microscope and scanning electronic microscope to analyze the structural difference of hardened zone, interface area and base metal after heat treatment. And the structural condition was grasped through EDS. As a result of microstructure, hardened zone showed formation of acicular martensite.

  • The drawbead is one of the most important factors in sheet metal forming for automotive parts. So clarifying the friction characteristics between sheets and drawbead is essential to improve the formability of sheet metal. Therefore in this study, drawbead friction test was performed at various bead materials(FC300, HC891, FCD550, HD700, HK600, HK700, SKD11) and surface treatment of beads(Base, induction hardening, Cr plating, ion nitriding, Toyoda diffusion process, TiCN, TiN, CrN). Circular shape bead has been used for the test. The results show that friction and drawing characteristics were mainly influenced by surface treatment.

  • IMicrostructure evolution and tensile property in the weld heat-affected zone (HAZ) of austenitic Fe-30Mn-9Al-0.9C lightweight steels were investigated. Five alloys with different V and Nb content were prepared by vacuum induction melting and hot rolling process. The HAZ samples were simulated by a Gleeble simulator with welding condition of 300kJ/cm heat input and HAZ peak temperatures of $1150^{\circ}C$ and $1250^{\circ}C$. Microstructures of base steels and HAZ samples were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and their mechanical properties were evaluated by tensile tests. The addition of V and Nb formed fine V and/or Nb-rich carbides, and these carbides increased tensile and yield strength of base steels by grain refinement and precipitation hardening. During thermal cycle for HAZ simulation, the grain growth occurred and the ordered carbide (${\kappa}-carbide$) formed in the HAZs. The yield strength of HAZ samples (HAZ 1) simulated in $1150^{\circ}C$ peak temperature was higher as compared to the base steel due to the formation of ${\kappa}-carbide$, while the yield strength of the HAZ samples (HAZ 2) simulated in $1250^{\circ}C$ decreased as compared to HAZ 1 due to the excessive grain growth.
